Graham Barton Got The News From His Offensive Line Coach

August 21st, 2024

No great fanfare or sitdown with the head coach when the Buccaneers ‘starting center was named this week.

Rookie first-round pick Graham Barton told Joe that he learned of his status from his offensive line coach Kevin Carberry. Barton said he didn’t have any kind of special moment. It was just an appreciated next step and nothing that will take him off his course of trying to improve every day.

Joe asked Barton about starting quarterback Baker Mayfield making the line calls and protection-setting typical of the center, and Barton said it’s been that way since he got here and he’s just learning all he can to be 100 percent prepared for that and every role.

Barton also told Joe that he’s stayed the same weight since he arrived in Tampa, no big rookie overhaul to his body other than getting a little stronger and having a different routine with the Bucs’ conditioning staff.

So glad we got Graham. He is a keeper. He stayed the same weight, that’s good. Also great that Baker is making the line calls while Graham is learning and conditioning. Go Bucs!

Great pick, and one that seems to be who we graded him out to be. We will see him make some mistakes, but he has a foundation that matches that of Tristan Wirffs. Best number one pick I can remember SINCE Tristan!

We’re building something here, you can just feel it, the organization, the talent, the coaching… it finally seems to be coming together. I’m hoping for similar results to last year. But this is a foundation that looks to be shaped for long-term success.

Been cheering on my Bucs for many years, but never before has this team looked poised for long-term success than it does right now.

It’s interesting that reports a week ago said Bredeson was making the line calls. Maybe that was a false report, or did Bredeson have some setbacks? I like the idea of easing Barton into the line calls, let him focus now on the basics.

So was Hainsey calling the blocking assignments in the Detroit playoff game? Detroit had some blitzers come in untouched.

Pretty amazing that Barton hasn’t lost weight in that grueling Florida sun. Can’t recall who it was, D lineman maybe, a few years ago said that he looses 6-7 pounds a day in practice in August.

I hear ya White Tiger. A solid culture and winning foundation has been laid. Bucs should be a tough out for years to come.

  9. SenileSenior Says:

I know it is hard for long time Buccaneer fans to believe but a winning culture of excellence is being sustained. The foundation for a perennial winner has been laid. Enjoy!

A mauling nasty OL that can do whatever it wants is what opened the door for Jason and BA to replace opponent Santa JaMiss with the GOAT.

GOAT retired after the Matadors showed up.

    Licht knows.

Here’s to the Maulers and Nasties who can also pass block.
