Gameday Tampa Bay

August 17th, 2024

 Preseason Game 2

Bucs at Jags

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

TV: WFLA-TV Channel 8 with Chris Myers, Rondé Barber and Dan Lucas. Other Florida cities expected to televise the game include Orlando (WESH), Fort Myers (WINK), Panama City (WMBB), Pensacola (WKRG) and West Palm Beach (WPBF). WFLA will rebroadcast the game Sunday at 9:30 a.m. NFL Network will also rebroadcast the game Tuesday at 3:30 a.m.

Streaming: Buccaneers.com, NFL+. (Geographic restrictions apply. Subscription may be required).

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Both English and Spanish radio broadcasts of Bucs games can be accessed with Apple devices (only) via the Bucs official app. Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game also will be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 381 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed).

Weather: It’s Florida in August, what do you think the weather will be? Per AccuWeather.com, tailgaters at the Gator Bowl — eff whatever bank name it’s called this season, it will always be the Gator Bowl to Joe — will enjoy mostly sunny skies in the low 90s. Jacksonville is one of the rare NFL teams that has some covered parking from the interstate ramps so get there early. Temperature is expected to plunge to 86 at kickoff under mostly sunny skies. The skies will remain clear through the game. By the game’s conclusion, it should be a comfortable 78.

Odds: Per BetMGM, as of midnight, Bucs +2.5 (+120); over/under 36.5.

Outlook: Just like last week, at most a small handful of starters will play. Maybe. Baker Mayfield will unlikely be one of them. Joe would like to see Graham Barton out there unless the Bucs aren’t fully sure Barton is ready to start Week 1. As recently has two weeks ago, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht wasn’t yet ready to knight Barton as the starting center. And Robert Hainsey has been getting plenty of snaps with the first-team offense in practices. Joe is guessing by the fourth quarter, a whole bunch of soon-to-be substitute high school history teachers, short-order cooks, tire salesmen and utility linemen will be on the field.

“Streaming: Buccaneers.com … (Geographic restrictions apply)”

What are the geographic restrictions in Florida?

Thank you, Joe! Can’t wait to see the rookies and some starters, that is fine.

The Bills drafted a rugby player from England-Travis Clayton, so you never know who the next recruit will be!

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs & Jags are 2 relatively comparable teams it appears. Both finished 9-8 last season, but got there quite differently. After 11 games Jags were 8-3 then lost 5-out-of-6 & missed the playoffs. At the same point in the season, Bucs were 4-7 then won 5-out-of-6 & made the playoffs.

We beat them convincingly 30-12 last season with Trevor Lawrence starting at QB (he didn’t do very well, and CJ Beathard finished up in the 4th qtr). Bucs defense pitched a shutout until the 4th qtr, and our offense kinda ruled the roost (ahead 20-0 at the half & 30-0 in the 3rd qtr). Turnovers killed the Jags that day (4 giveaways to 0 takeaways). Interestingly, Bucs had over 37 minutes of TOP that game, and ran the ball 36 times … for only 70 yards. That was about a 50% run-pass ratio that game.

Both teams made several significant changes in the off-season, and it’ll be interesting to see if any of those play out tonight.

Hope I get to watch it! Bucs website was horrible last week!

I have Peacock but they didn’t carry the game 🙁

  6. John Sinclear Says:

For anybody in the Fort Myers area, WINK-TV is supposedly carrying the Dolphins game. ABC-7 is supposed to carry the Bucs game, per multiple sources..

  7. Joe Says:

What are the geographic restrictions in Florida?

Gonna guess outside the Tampa Bay TV market. Just a guess.

  8. Crickett Baker Says:

I now live in Arkansas. The only way I have found to get these games is on the radio. 98rock is very clear on my computer.

  9. Joe Says:

    John Sinclear:

    Thank you.

  10. Bucfan Says:

Don’t like resting all the starters again. Yes there is the risk of injury with any game but timing is a very important part of the game. Every season / game the Bucs are SLOW starters. They need get some live work before the season starts.

  11. Anyhony Says:

We usually get pre-season streaming here in Fort Myers (Buccaneers.com) Local TV listing doesn’t show the game here(maybe last minute change) but 506 sports does.

  12. J McCosh Says:

What parts of Florida are blocked out for the game on the Bucs website? Anyone know?
