Shorts And No Pads Today In Jacksonville; Vita Vea Video

August 15th, 2024

Camp Cupcake,” as Bucco Bruce Arians called it in 2021, is back in full force today in Jacksonville.

The Bucs are in Jacksonville with a chance to scrimmage against the Jaguars while practicing with them at their sweet, overhauled facility. Instead, it’ll be an underwear football session. No hitting allowed of any sort. Dudes in shorts and flimsy jerseys.

Arians sometimes lamented about how soft NFL summers have become, and other coaches complain about the lack of practice time to, you know, play some real football. But safety is winning out. And heck, those 2021 Bucs were a fantastic team that went 13-4.

There was a plan in recent weeks to have the Bucs in pads today and get in some real-football work against the Jags, but it was scrapped.

If you want a sniff of real football, go read Joe’s practice notes from yesterday. Or watch the video below from Bucs preseason sideline reporter Dan Lucas, who was with Joe at practice on Wednesday in Jacksonville.

Joe didn’t see Vea in these 1-on-1 pass rush battles — and Joe doesn’t think the Bucs’ offensive line engaged in this with the Jags’ D-line — but it’s a fun watch below. Almost looks like a cartoon.

This is pretty much what the #Bucs Vita Vea did the entire practice this morning. pic.twitter.com/GWIb7UIC5M

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs must be beat up and need a break. 49ers and Saints cancelled their practices due to injuries.

  3. BucsFan55 Says:

Let’s see how the Jag reporters spin this one

    Go Vea!

Loved reading some of the comments on the Camp Cupcake post from August 11, 2021. Good stuff.

  5. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Now….it’s not only worthless preseason games….but worthless joint practices!!!

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Man Funderburk is in a walking boot. Bucs getting killed by injuries early this year.

  7. DS Says:

Dude never stood a chance lol

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

2 weeks of practice , mostly in shorts and one game, and teams are beat up?

    Back in my day….😂

  9. BucU Says:

    Somewhere Russell Gage is smiling.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

If that OG was blocking a small automobile, would he do better/worse?

I haven’t had a cupcake in some time. Trying to watch my weight and all. I did attempt to bake some cupcakes once. I guess they were ok. Not as good as my kids’ mother could make that for sure. I do miss her cooking.. she did teach my son the art of baking which he very much enjoys. He hand makes and bakes these cinnamon rolls that he uses the orange zest and juice in that are truly incredible that will delight your mouth up with flavor.

  12. Boss Says:

big man has skills…. need to be able to play more though.

  13. bucnjim Says:

Is there a limited practice scheduled for Friday or is it a complete day off with the game Saturday.

Ray Perkins is turning over in his grave…

  15. Bucswin! Says:

Another factor? Maybe these guys are stronger faster hit harder eat better train more(especially in the off-season) get paid more.. Pushing the limits of the human body. That could lead to more injuries. Only so much abuse the body can take, older guys on the team get extra days off. Takes them longer to heal than a 22 year old rookie. Data doesn’t lie. Key is to be fresh for the games not beat up from practice. Go BUCS!

    😑

I’m a savory fan — but OL’ Boy got me salivating about those cinnamon rolls.

  18. heyjude Says:

I am right there with you Dave. OL’ Boy got me thinking of baking this weekend! Can’t get cinnamon and orange zest out of my head now! The cupcakes in the picture look really good too.

  19. Dave Pear Says:

I can’t bake. For the safety of the world. But I’d gladly take someone’s leftovers!

  20. ChuckInJAX Says:

Vita got the attention of the local radio guys up here on ZJAX– they’re scared sh!t about their O-line again and talking backup QBs now! Good work VV!!

  21. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

That Olineman would have had better luck trying to stop a dump truck.

  22. Dave Pear Says:

    Keep it improving, Vita!

The dream is for Vita, Kancey and (Gholston) to emulate the Bucs 1979 front 3. Getting pressure on the QB with 3? Major competitive advantage. Maybe Todd could devise an 8-man zone that would only be 10th worst in the NFL at yards allowed rather than 4th worst or worse.

  23. olboy Says:

HeyJude if you love to bake I can recommend you to try it out. It was such a hit when he originally made them for his then girlfriend’s birthday. She apparently loves oranges so he baked up this delight. Six months later he and her were at their favorite place and he surprises her with an orange cinnamon roll in one hand and as he’s asking her if she would like her favorite dessert he drops to one knee and quickly adds and will you marry me while holding a ring in the other. She couldn’t say no.. haha

Anyway he said he made the changes in the glaze. Squeezed OJ and zest. Enjoy!

  24. heyjude Says:

olboy – What a beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing it. OJ and zest! And vitamin C!

  25. infomeplease Says:

BucU, That would be at Ravens camp. He signed there

  26. unbelievable Says:

So much for all that BS about these practices and scrimmages with a different team getting our guys ready for real games.

  27. Dave Pear Says:

Ya. Now we have worthless scrimmages to go along with worthless preseason games, where at least the players on the field play the real game.

    Crockery.

  28. garro Says:

Was that Hainsey in a Jags jersey? Man he gave up ground in a big hurry!

    Go Bucs!
