Unknown Injury Shelves Calijah Kancey

August 14th, 2024

So Joe’s heart sputtered today in Jacksonville seeing last year’s standout stud rookie defensive players Calijah Kancey and YaYa Diaby not practicing against the Jaguars.

Diaby’s ankle injury is no mystery. And he’s very bullish about returning healthy for opening day. But Kancey’s injury is an unknown.

Head coach Todd Bowles was very tight-lipped about it after practice, offering no insight.

Joe fished around a bit more and didn’t get any info other than Kancey is not expected to practice tomorrow. At least Kancey looks good cheering on his teammates.

    Dropping like flies…

I guess Vegas can predict injuries…

  5. Brian in St Pete Says:

    It’s a Bucs Life

  6. Bucs4Ever Says:

    damn….no depth there…

  7. Bobby Says:

Kancey got hurt last season’s camp and he is hurt during this camp. Im beginning to wonder if he is going to an injury prone player every season. I hope not. This injury bug is hitting the Bucs thus far and we haven’t even reached the regular season yet.

  8. Jersey Buc Says:

    Falcons just traded for judon.

  9. Bubby Says:

Dude is 0-2 in the preseason. Undersized and injury prone, but all you’ll read on this site is that he’s a stud.

  10. PNW Buc Says:

    A third for Judon.

I wonder if GM Jason contacted them???

Would a Joe Tryon for Judon have done it??

  11. Costa Rica John Says:

Get him in the ice tub!

  12. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Starting to see a pattern. He’s overhyped. Let’s see how he does this year.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Head coach Todd Bowles was very tight-lipped about it after practice”

They tend to keep it hushed when it is a non-footbal issue. Maybe he has covid?

  14. White Tiger Says:

Bowles being tight lipped is not a great sign, we knew about Yaya pretty quickly…

How do we feel about Edge/Hassan Reddick now?

A $25m per year edge that gives off Randy Gregory vibes is ugly, but no way to replace Cancey is terrifying.

  15. Slacker Says:

Team can’t get a pass rush without blitzing
    Address the hole already

  16. White Tiger Says:

Atlanta traded for Matthew Judon (sent a 3rd rounder to Pats), after Braelon Trice went down to a torn ACL in the preseason opener against Miami last week.

Act fast or fight for the leftovers…

  17. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Undersized. Worst run stopping grade among all DTs last year according to PFF. And now proving to be injury prone…maybe time to stop hyping this guy up like he’s the next John Randle

  18. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Man, it didn’t take long for this preseason to get tiresome.

“It’s reported Kancey did not practice today”

OVERRATED!! CUT HIM NOW, HE’S A BUM!!

  19. GoneGator Says:

    Hopefully a minor issue.
We can’t afford to get any thinner on the D-line.

I’ll confess I’m starting to have some concerns about our defense. Pass rush has been underwhelming from what little I’ve seen/heard.

Braswell is going to have to step up and exceed expectations rushing the passer. Be real nice to see Watts and Ramirez make a big jump but I’m skeptical. AND Yaya is going to have to break out like many have been predicting or we’re going to be sending 5-6 to get pressure which will put our backend at a disadvantage too often.

I’m not completely sold on our CB depth or play until we see hard evidence that Zyon’s ready to excel either and our backups can avoid being burned either.

Season cannot get here soon enough. Lets get this party started !

Injury Prone haha relax you guys! He strained his calf and missed games early last year. Then he came back played the rest of the season trending up the whole way. He probably had some soreness and the Bucs are playing it safe.

  21. Saskbucs Says:

Go back and watch the playoffs, guy lives in the backfield.

  22. ModHairKen Says:

Is Kancey a chandelier? Come on. Man.

  23. TBSwarm Says:

Definitely a non-football injury IMO. Hopefully he gets back on the field soon

  24. SlyPirate Says:

No cast, boot, sling, or report from Bowles.

Do we know if he’s injured?

    ALTERNATIVES
Soreness, strain, sickness, indigestion, headache, personal issue, or forgot his gear.

Obviously, whoever planned this trip sucks at planning. They got to town hours late. I’m guessing forgetting his gear isn’t too far off.

  25. Shane Callahan Says:

He needs to stay healthy and get reps. Wish him the best.

  26. Slacker Says:

Bucs showed no interest in Judon.

  27. kgh4life Says:

My guess is it’s a soft tissue injury: hamstring or calf. Kancey is a twitchy guy and those muscles stretch. It’s odd that in college Kancey was not injury prone and now it seems he has the injury bug. Or, it could just be the Bucs being extra careful.

  28. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Oh now let’s not get our panties all twisted up in knots. Injuries have always been and always will be part of the game. As cold as this is, it’s next mañg up, living in Tampa.

  29. heyjude Says:

Hoping for the best. Agree with others too, it could be the Bucs being careful. He is still cheering on the sidelines too.

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

We are talkin trash about them Falcons. But they sure do seem serious about a Pass Rush. They got like 2 or 3 real good ones with this last trade with the Pats. Rah is determined to have his Defense ready. And you cannot count Kurt Cousins out. Dude can ball. Hope our pass rush is better this year.
