Mike Evans’ Scare Is Fake News

August 14th, 2024

Mike Evans today at the Bucs-Jags joint practice in Jacksonville.

Don’t worry, folks. Mike Evans is fine.

Earlier this morning, long-time BSPN Jags beat guy Mike DiRocco reported that the Bucs star receiver left practice. DiRocco observed that Evans walked away without assistance.

The Bucs, of course, are in Jacksonville participating in the first of two joint practices with the Jags.

It turns out that DiRocco’s missive was, well, incomplete.

DiRocco’s colleague Jenna Laine of ESPN reports Evans is just fine. She was told by her Bucs sources that Evans actually returned to practice and finished practice.

So for anyone on social media this morning who may have seen that alarming Twitter, sit back and relax, comforted with the knowledge that Evans finished practice and is fine.

She also said Payne Durham went down with a knee injury and left practice, currently running tests…

Seems like our depth at multiple positions is going to be tested early and often this season. Not what you want when trying to win a SB.

I was there. Not only was ME13 at practice but he (and Chris Godwin) did well in their drills and 11 on 11s. Reporters were on the other side of two practice fields, far away from the action. Jags beat reporters often get things wrong (re: Urban Meyer).

My heart dropped at first because I hadn’t heard anything. Thankfully, everything is just fine.

    Thx for the update.

Evans still has the dropsy, over on Jags news wire one hits him in the hands and he bobbles and drops. Sorry all you Evans fans, he does this, it is just a fact but he still will get his 1000 yards this year and with that body will get open, just has to catch it.

    Exactly!!!

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Evans leaves practice to use the men’s room.
    Great job Mike DiRocco!

Never understood the term, ‘Fake News.’
News is news. Within a story there is only the truth, or lies.
The truth is news. Everything else is, ‘Liar Writes Story.’
    A reporter writes news.
A liar who writes fiction in an attempt to pass it off as fact should be drummed out of the business.
That said, if writers were held to that standard the unemployment line would circle the globe.

In this case, Mike DiRocco wrote that Mike Evans left practice early, which he did. But he returned without mention. Can’t really call that a lie, or ‘Fake News,’ just an unfinished story. Poor reporting, however, as Mike could’ve needed a pee. DiRocco should’ve followed up with Mike’s return.

A lazy ill informed reporter? There’s a shocker.

I am more an Evans fan than a Baker fan.

This from one of the beat writers today:

The Bucs offensive line was quite remarkable in pass protection, giving all three of Tampa Bay’s quarterbacks time to throw the ball.

There were incompletions from bad throws by Baker Mayfield that were either too low or too ahead of the receiver as he attempted to lead them.

One Evans drop or a bad day from Baker does not really matter in the scheme of things.

I just reiterate, I am more an Evans fan than a Baker fan.
