Bucs Have No Buzz (Revisited)

August 8th, 2024

Too good for Bucs?

This is how far the Bucs are down the buzz meter.

The It-Girl of NFL media, Kay Adams, host of “Up and Adams” seen weekday mornings on FanDuelTV, is on a training camp tour. Like other media outlets, she shows up with her show’s entourage at a training camp, sets up shop, and pretty much gets to talk to whoever she wants.

Then Adams, like other network talking heads, runs to the airport to hit up the next city on the training camp tour stop.

Joe’s a big fan of Adams. She has a really good show. And she knows her football. She was excellent on “Good Morning Football” seen on NFL Network and now she has her own gig.

Adams is a good interviewer. She often gets her subjects to open up (gee, wonder why?) and not just offer up cliché-riddled answers.

So the Bucs were not part of her tour. Eh, it happens. Hard to go to all 32 camps in a couple of weeks. But yesterday, Adams updated her tour stop dates. She and her producer added the slimy Saints and the Dixie Chicks. This, a couple of days after she was at the Stinking Panthers.

Alas, no Bucs.

Nope. She (and/or her producer) cannot find the time to visit the three-time defending NFC South champs who are vying for a rare four-peat. A team that has made the playoffs the past four seasons which included a Super Bowl win.

Nah, can’t go to Tampa. Yick, the Bucs?

Meanwhile, what have those other three NFC South slapd!ck teams done the past four years? The slimy Saints haven’t been jack shiite since the Bucs punked them in the playoffs after the 2020 regular season.

The Stinking Panthers and the Dixie Chicks? Ha! The Stinking Panthers have been so rotten, the Bucs got a hold of their quarterback who they threw out the door like trash and turned him into a playoff winner.

Now this is not a diatribe against Adams. Please don’t be mistaken. But this demonstrates how little buzz the Bucs have.

Those outside the Tampa Bay area are still suspicious of both Baker Mayfield and Todd Bowles. And if you don’t have a star quarterback (or a quarterback thought to be a franchise savior who is young and fresh) and your coach is rather milquetoast in news conferences with a career-losing record, that just isn’t going to sell the team.

Yes, Joe gets it: Buzz doesn’t equal wins. Buzz doesn’t mean success. But perception is reality and people, no matter the Bucs’ resume, simply are not believers and frankly think the Bucs are boring.

Always remember and never forget: It’s all about the quarterback. Even when it’s not about the quarterback, it’s about the quarterback. So when fans ask why the Bucs aren’t getting their deserved run from the national media types, this is why.

At the end of the day, football is about entertainment. And folks in decision-making positions with the national media just don’t perceive the Bucs as entertaining or interesting.

Very disappointing. I did like Kay Adams, but have to say this is a slap in the face. When the overrated Falcons, Panthers, and Saints flop, the sports media won’t know what to do next. However, we Bucs fans will know which sports media to tune out from.

  2. Obvious Says:

Let’s be honest. Our offense hasn’t exactly been exciting to watch with the exception of a one off here or there. And even Bowles holds his breath when Mayfield throws it deep. What’s his average? Like a 29% success rate. Some where in there. That’s WITH two of the Very Best receivers in all of football

Let’s look very slightly deeper. Most people on the planet would rather watch a game of golf than sit through four hours of watching White run for a yard “behind the line of scrimmage” straight into the backsides of one of the lousiest O lines in football and PROVE that repeating the same things a thousand times and expecting a different result is indeed INSANE! And more importantly…. BORING

What the entire NFL is saying and 98% of the viewing world is that we have NOT inspired. We brought in a few new guys via the draft and of course we got our safety back but…..

I’m a Homer. I CAN see our potential. But we should take a personal reality check from time to time and ask ourselves WHY Anybody else besides us Homer’s would want to watch Mayfield missing more than he can hit. OR a Very deflating run game bore even Homer’s to the point-of literally vomiting due to a trapped feeling of going nowhere fast!

WE HAVEN’T BEEN EXCITING NO MATTER WHAT OUR RECORD IS…… Not to anybody else BUT us. That’s why.

I bet if there was a national poll taken, we Would have a top 5 record in boring.

WE. THE BUCCANEERS. HAVE TO FLIP IT.

Arians showed us ALL how to do it….. Why did we blow that up again??? O yeah. I remember now. TODD BOWLES…….

We are living Todd Bowles dream. Seems not many are impressed or interested. Especially NOT the media.

THIS IS WHY ~Todd IS on the hot seat. Regardless of “Homer Simpson” bumbling into division wins. It just doesn’t look like we EARNED IT or DESERVE IT according to actual football die hards….

If we want Respect, we’re going to have to Actually EARN IT the old fashioned way.

    GO BUCS!

  3. Permanently Moderated Says:

So the rest of the NFC South is exciting to Adams? Based on what? A washed up Derek Carr? A damaged Kirk Cousins? An uninspiring Bryce Young? Really? We deserved a certain amount of disrespect prior to 2020. Since then, there’s no real excuse for the shade.

  4. Joe Says:

So the rest of the NFC South is exciting to Adams?

She’s always had a thing for the slimy Saints for some reason. Her fascination with washed Cam Jordan is strange.

  5. Curse of Gruden Says:

Joe, you’ve done it again. The Bucs’ HC will now be referred to as “Milquetoast Todd going forward.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Obvious … ‘Arians showed us ALL how to do it….. Why did we blow that up again??? O yeah. I remember now. TODD BOWLES’.

I love revisionists. The grass is always greener … yesterday.

Horsepuckey. BA’s first year here the Bucs went 7-9. We scored a ton of points using BA’s ‘Bombs Away’ strategy; problem was that 30 bombs ended up in the wrong hands and our defense was too young to counter those gifts. JL fixed that in 2020, bringing in Brady, Gronk, Brown, Fournette & a number of others (to include having a great draft). The strategy worked great in 2020 & 2021 with Brady at the helm & all those weapons at his disposal. It was super costly but it worked, largely because Todd Bowles turned our Yucks defense into a Top-10 defense by the end of the 2019 season.

And oh BTW Obvious, Todd Bowles was left with a true salary CAP mess after BA’s late departure prior to the 2022 season, plus an aging QB who was stayed a year too long. We’re now into the 2nd or 3rd year of a major rebuilding (depending on your point of view), and he’s actually done an impressive job of managing that. Perfect? Heck no, but that’s an unrealistic expectation for any coach (or human being for that matter).

For what it’s worth, I see us creating a TEAM that mirrors the philosophy of the 49ers (San Fran East?) … excellent defense with a competent, but admittedly not-very-flashy offense. IF our offense can get into the Top-10, and IF our defense can stay in the Top-10, we can do some damage. We may not win an Oscar for our performance, but we MIGHT just win something more significant in the next 2 years. And winning is kinda the bottom line, isn’t it?

  7. Irishmist Says:

She’s ignoring us because secretly she really likes us.

  8. Fan of the South Says:

the Bucs got a hold of their quarterback who they threw out the door like trash and turned him into a playoff winner.

Adams speaks in truth/facts and does not bend things to make it fit.

Mayfield didn’t play well at Carolina, got hurt and was benched when ready to return. Mayfield asked to be released. Even Daniel Jones was able to retain his position.

Same goes foe Cleveland. Same story but in that case asked to be traded. Gave up 5 million to get his way.

Perhaps it’s Joe’s twisting that allowed Mayfield to peddle the story of being shipped around like Dirty Laundry. Both Cleveland and Carolina would have been just fine leaving his Shat stained shorts lay in the corner until the following year and let him see what the market thought about it.

Wish the luck this season but eventually it runs out just like story lines.

  9. JimBobBuc Says:

Offensive splash plays and winning sell. Last year the Bucs were noticed with our 3-1 start, let’s start off with a winning streak and get the offense humming and we’ll get the press. A big win outside the division will help, as well as big wins in the night games.

  10. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

“Buzz doesn’t equal wins. Buzz doesn’t mean success. But perception is reality…” No one does a non sequitur like Jose. Just kidding, my wife is really good too.

Anyway, I just don’t care about the talking heads. I thought we agreed there would be no more posts about what people like that think about the Bucs?

  11. Steven007 Says:

Obvious, I didn’t even get past your opening. We don’t have an exciting offense…. But the saints do? The falcons do? Dare I say the Panthers do? Dude, you’ve got to be a bit more compelling in the opening if you want people to read the rest of the claptrap.

  12. heyjude Says:

I don’t get why Cam Jordan gets so much media hype either. Fox NFL had him on a few times and he is as annoying off the field as he is on the field. Too much mouth. Maybe they are grooming him to become an analyst at some point. One less NFL pre-show I would ever watch again. They also had Sean Payton on for awhile too. Horrible optics since Bounty-gate. There are so many other great players and coaches to choose from to be sports analysts. Why settle for Jordan, Payton, and others like them…

  13. ManzielMadness Says:

Just curious, how much input does Kay get when choosing which teams to cover?

  14. BakerFan Says:

Just keep winning and go deeper in playoffs to prove it. Play with a chip on your shoulder is perfect for the Bucs.

  15. heyjude Says:

Good question, ManzielMadness. Maybe that is part of it too. Seems slanted if the pay is better for one team over another. Hope not, in the past, I have always liked watching Kay Adams interviews. Reading this news, was very disappointing.

Agreed, BakerFan. We are always underrated and will prove them wrong again. Baker always plays with a chip on his shoulder, and I love it!

  16. garro Says:

Alas Kay has joined the Dark Side. Gonna miss you Kay. So sad…

    Go Bucs!

  17. infomeplease Says:

I haven’t seen too many of her shows lately, but even last year I thought she was one of few who saw positive possibilities in the Bucs when few did. This dis must be the results of her producers.
She’ll come around! In KA I trust! Maybe she’s saving the best for last!

  18. WiscoJoe Says:

GOOD! Let them sleep on us and we’ll be the surprise of the NFL. Real G’s move in silence like lasagna

  19. Joe Says:

Anyway, I just don’t care about the talking heads. I thought we agreed there would be no more posts about what people like that think about the Bucs?

Joe never made any such agreement. 🤷‍♂️

  20. Joe Says:

Just curious, how much input does Kay get when choosing which teams to cover?

Not privy to the minutes of her production meetings but am very confident she has influence.

  21. Bradinator Says:

I’m good with it. Last year many outlets had us last or second to last in the league with their “predictions”. Didn’t see us coming last year, won’t see until it is too late this year. Let em forget us and they can regain consciousness on Mondays during the season asking for the name of the truck that hit them.

  22. heyjude Says:

Fully understand the influence that employees need to adhere to. And it’s even more so within the media hub. I am betting that the same ones pushing Falcons, Saints, and Panthers down our throats might be leaned on too. Can’t say no and lose your job and then be known as non-compliant. We can bet the fine print in the contracts covers it all. I still dislike Cam Jordan.

Similar to what infomeplease said – Maybe Kay is saving the best for her last stop! The Bucs!

  23. Jeffrey Becker Says:

is she skipping florida entirely? not stupid i guess. it’s way too freaking hot here right now. smart woman

  24. SlyPirate Says:

Would her visit win the Bucs more games?

    No.

  25. Joe Says:

    is she skipping florida entirely?

She went to Miami of course (what hot, fashionable young babe ever passes up a chance to go to Miami). Not sure about Jacksonville.

But, as always, what do both teams have?

    It’s all about the quarterback.

  26. Mike Says:

TV people have to worry about demographics and stuff like that, so maybe there’s just more fans interested in those teams from her show’s perspective?

  27. Gipper Says:

Glad “it is all about the QB.” Baker will have a tremendous year if he can get just a little more help from the O line. Barton is going to need some time to adjust to his new role. Still not sure if he is really a Center. Best position for him is probably LG. Hope he doesn’t prove it early in season by washing out as Center. Expect Baker top 6 QB this year. Stat line to include 35TD, 12 INT, and 4500yrds. QBR rating is ridiculous and anyone paying attention to it is equally ridiculous.

  28. The Big Sombrero Says:

    Agreed Joe.

What if there is someone else who planned these events?

Anyway, she owes you a response.

  29. Kenton Smith Says:

Fan of the South says Baker failed pretty much everywhere he’s been. That’s not true. Far from it. But that’s OK. He’s in a great place now. And he is only going to get better. Some of us here know more than you do Fan of the South. And we keep receipts.

  30. Dave Pear Says:

    Baker > 4500 yards, 30TDs

  31. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Joe

Good to know, thanks for the answer!

  32. KABucs Says:

    Funny

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2023/12/kay-adams-wags-finger-at-lack-of-bucs-coverage/

  33. KABucs Says:

    Hypocrite

  34. KABucs Says:

Wow! You didn’t allow my link to one of your own articles? Anyhow, back a few months ago Kay Adams was scolding the rest of the NFL media for barely covering the Bucs. Here she is covering every other team in the NFC south. Thus the hypocrite above.

  35. drdneast Says:

I say keep it up. I love the Bucs with a giant size chip on their shoulder, especially the Baker man.

  36. Drunkinybor Says:

I couldn’t care less. So what. I read one post and it sounded like he was about to cry going on and on about honor and respect and blah blah boo hoo. I remember when we really really sucked. This is great and exciting. We have shot. We have a really good team that maybe just maybe can be great. Young amazing talent. Kay can go smile and share care bears with Tony Robbins sorry Dave Canales. We got work to do.

  37. orlbucfan Says:

Big deal….some flashy looking woman who can talk halfway competently about football skips the Bucs. What else is new? Bucs are flying below the P(issant)R Media radar, yet again. That’s always a good sign. DR, good to see you posting this season.
