Report: Week 1 Target For YaYa Diaby Return

August 1st, 2024

Reason to smile.

It looked so much worse.

When Bucs outside linebacker YaYa Diaby went down with an injured ankle today at practice, Joe feared the worst. When a guy who just agreed to a $140 million contract (Tristan Wirfs) was on one knee right beside the young Bucs pass rusher, it screamed “major injury.”

Alas, per Jenna Laine of ESPN, Bucs fans can breathe easy tonight. After it was learned X-rays were negative on Diaby’s ankle, Laine stated Diaby suffered a high ankle sprain and is likely out for the rest of training camp and preseason.

More specifically, Laine said the initial target date to get Diaby on the field is Week 1 against the Commandos.

Joe is wiping his brow.

    Goals

  2. BucEmUp Says:

    Talk about a dodged bullet

  3. Booger Says:

Just make sure he is 💯 FULLY recovered before getting him back out there. We don’t want another AB situation where he’s rushed back too soon & then he’s forced to have to deal with it for all throughout the entire season.

  4. Dude Says:

Y’know what, Watts & Ramirez are about to get a bump up in their work load with Yaya getting sidelined. Wishing Yaya a speedy recovery, but this is an opportunity to get a longer look at some guys we could put to use down the road.

  5. Biff Barker Says:

    Bet he’ll be back before he’s 100%

  6. JustVisiting Says:

Just FYI, “Alas” is bad, like: “Alas, he’s hour for the season!”

  7. Red86 Says:

    Whew!

  8. JustVisiting Says:

    “Out for the season” lol

  9. BucVoyager Says:

High ankle sprain. Let that man rest. I don’t care if it’s week 4.

  10. DS Says:

Means he won’t be back til week 3 at best

  11. unbelievable Says:

Just hope they don’t rush him back too soon and make it worse, as we’ve seen happen a bit too often here.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

Week 1 would be just under 6 weeks. I’d say stay out until week 2 minimum. Don’t want to push too soon like what happened to Calijah last year.

  13. SC Bucs Fan Says:

I love when people say let it rest and come back healthy. 3/4 or more of the roster is hurting each week. You play when you can because the guy sitting next to you, and behind you, is doing that.

  14. Irishmist Says:

Not great, but it could have been worse.

  15. Bucfan1988 Says:

Let’s see what degree The sprain is from the MRI result tomorrow…

Yeah, let him rest six weeks, And then unleash Sub-Zero On the Washington commanders in week one!!

  16. Rod Munch Says:

    Give JPP a call.

  17. Shak Says:

I agree with SC, if you’re not at risk of worsening or re-injury, I say put them out there when they can go. Be careful, of course, but play if they can!

  18. Buccaneer rick Says:

I’ve been saying this all offseason watts it’s going to takeoff maybe Ramirez to Nelson’s already making strides to

  19. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

That’s really great news, we just keep the commandos guessing and unleash their snarling slobbering pitbull nightmare.. I don’t like it to much when there’s a lot of talk about injuries and stuff because they just messed us up along the online and dline the past few years. I hope Sua the best with his injury, I just had a second lumbar fusion due to what I’m calling a screw up. It never got any better from before the first one. Two weeks ago the eighteenth and when they got me upstairs after this surgery I got out of the wheelchair and walked in my room. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  20. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Thank God

  21. Dave Pear Says:

I’m telling you, get Logan the Oaf in isolation. Send him to the Galapagos or somewhere remote. His oafish aura is dangerous even if he isn’t shredding knees and ankles directly.

  22. Kenton Smith Says:

The Long season has begun.Sometimes when you’re having a good season the ball bounces back into your hands instead of away from you. The ball bounced back into our hands. Hang tough guys.

  23. Usfbuc Says:

Like others I hope they don’t rush him back. Rather have him at 100% for 75% of the season than to have him at 75% for 100% of the season.

  24. Buddha Says:

Young, strong, and healthy. Will be back within 6 weeks.

  25. Bojim Says:

I had a high ankle sprain eons ago. Took a couple months of just walking to get right. Rest YaYa. Need you!!!

  26. unbelievable Says:

@SC Bucs – there is a difference between playing hurt, and coming back from an injury too soon and re-aggravating it / making it worse.

For reference, see: Calijah Kancey, last season.

  27. Danbucsfan Says:

Let’s get captain pothead in camp or cut his arse already, if he was here then he could start while Yaya heals up, come on Gregory.. get to camp let’s get on the train, or get run over by it SUCKA lol

  28. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

So happy it’s not way worse. He’s a great young man on the rise. Part of our young, together and hungry defense

  29. heyjude Says:

So happy to hear about YaYa’s injury not being severe and he will be back soon. Similar to other comments, no rush, be 100% healthy first.

  30. BucsFan55 Says:

ease him back slowly, don’t want him to miss the first half of the season like Kancey last year

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That’s going to set him back training too.
