“They Quietly Are Seething”

August 1st, 2024

So mad he’s smiling?

This nugget is extra interesting to Joe because it comes from a national media guy actually at Bucs practice today.

A CBS Sports crew is at One Buc Palace today and it includes well-respected analyst Charles Davis and national insider Prickly Pete Prisco.

While on CBS HQ this morning, Davis talked about Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

With how Licht has “shopped at home” by re-signing his star players, Davis said Licht is the kind of GM players want to be their boss.

Davis also confidently explained that folks inside One Buc Palace are pissed off.

“They quietly are seething at the fact that they’ve won the last two division titles and all any of us media people are talking about is Atlanta, and what’s going on in Atlanta,” Davis said. “They don’t want to hear it anymore. They’re tired of it.”

Joe’s written about this team mindset previously, but it’s more striking coming from a guy who likely just talked to various people in the organization.

Can the collective team anger fuel the Bucs, especially against Atlanta in Week 5?

Nothing shuts critics up like winning. So go and definitively win the NFC South with a strong season. Don’t go 1-6 and pull it out at the last game.

  2. Bee Says:

Well, if the Bucs win then the media will talk about them. Why care, just win baby!

  3. Cobraboy Says:

If Diaby is out, the hill just gets steeper.

  4. Brian in St Pete Says:

Take that anger out on our opponents

  5. Dude Says:

Post some decisive victories and all that doubt goes away, play like last season and you get what you earn

  6. Dave Pear Says:

    Screw week 5.

It’s week 1 to focus on.

  7. Greg Says:

We need to sweep the division this if we want to shut them up. And convincingly at that.

  8. BucU Says:

If Yaya is out for a long time with this injury the division title and playoffs are gone.

  9. Saskbucs Says:

Yaya is not out for the year judging from early reports, cripes he might not miss week 1 at this point… 5 weeks to get that thing right. It’s a blow forsure but let’s not pack up the fan tents because we lost a guy for maybe 3 games.

  10. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Win 10+ games to get respect. I think it’s that simple.

  11. First Name Greatest Says:

Can’t cry about no respect after going 8-9 and then 9-8

    That’s the definition of mediocrity

    Earn it

  12. Fan of the South Says:

In 2020 the Big story was Brady signing with the Bucs. Stafford got some press when He went to the Rams. Last season it was Rodgers and the Jets with a little Baker Mayfield sprinkled in until week 4 when the CJ Shroud story sucked up all the Oxygen and started Blazing.

This year’s off season it is Cousins and by week 6 it could be Gardner Minshew having the Raiders at 6-0 and top of the AFC West. By week 18 it could be do the Texans rest their starters or go for the perfect season.

Writers pretty much know what will be followed and will gain traction.
Heck Joe knows that every post claiming Mayfield is Top Five will get close to 100 comments. 75% agreeing or insisting he is Top 3 and 25% saying Joe is FOS.

I’m calling BS. We have earned it.

Bucs : 3 straight NFC South champs with a Super Bowl to boot in last 3 years.
Bucs : 9 NFC South Champs since 1979
Bucs : 2 Super Bowl appearances 2 Wins

    Dirty Birds : 7 NFC South Champs since 1966 – only 4 since 2004
Dirty Birds : 2 Super Bowl appearances 2 Losses

Aints : 9 NFC South Champs since 1967
Aints. : 1 Super Bowl appearance 1 Win

Carolina : 6 NFC South Champs since 1995
Carolina : 2 Super Bowl appearances. 2 Losses

It’s all about politics and primma donnas.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers record stands on it’s on.

When my moderated post appears, Bucs fans will see that since the inception of each current NFC South team, the Bucs historical record proves us to be the best . We are being disrespected because of who and where we are.

  15. Citrus County Says:

ATL and CAR have NO super bowl wins. NO has 1 SB win. We have 2.

  16. Citrus County Says:

NFC South playoff game appearances , wins and losses

    Since 1979 : Bucs : 24. 12-12 record
    Since 1978 : Dirty Birds : 24. 10-14 record
    Since 1987 : Aints : 23. 10-13 record
    Since 1996 : Panthers : 17. 9-8 record

  17. Citrus County Says:

I hope someone can post those stats somewhere the media can see them.

  18. Citrus County Says:

Caveat : I assume most commenters know about the division and league reorganizations over the years.

  19. infomeplease Says:

For the Bucs to get noticed they must win 65% of their games (11/6 record) including several night games and or nationally televised games. Beat two or more of the Chiefs, Ravens, SanFrancisco, Dallas, and Lions. Also, clinch their division before week 16. Then perhaps they will be given their proper due. IMHO.

From which orifice did you pull those numbers out of ?

  21. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

I hope Yaya isn’t out for long. Our defense looks very strong.

  22. Citrus County Says:

Some of you numbskulls are so uninformed. There is almost no unbiased, fair and honest reporting to be found throughout all forms of national media anymore. Integrity and reputation seem to mean nothing to media types ( local media excluded of course ). Wins and losses don’t determine winners and losers in the minds eye of the self absorbed and self anointed media elite. They pick and choose the favorites based on their orders or personal agendas. We all know the favorite ones and that won’t change no matter what our win or loss record is unless it is sub par so they can revel in labeling us losers. Until the mendacious media is called out and held to account nothing will change. I’d be willing to bet that if Birmingham Alabama got an NFL franchise right up the street from Rolltide and Tigers they would never be relevant.
The Bucs fall into the same category as Buffalo, Cincinnati, Jacksonville etc. Even the Rams don’t seem to be relevant any more. Detroit is a good team but why are they more relevant than the aforementioned ? Politics and Prima Donnas.

  23. ballwasher61 Says:

Hey fan of the south, if Joe is FOS is he you? Or Full of spit…. Spot on the media thingy, who’s hot and news, or unless you are the Cowgirls…

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We’re one game over .500 with Bowles as head coach. Technically, he’s a winning head coach…but barely.

The biggest difference between now and his last head coaching job is Jason Licht. He’s got a better than fair chance of proving himself here.

    And it’s tied to Mayfield.

  25. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Citrus all that being correct means nothing if you don’t win 10 games.

When Brady was throwing dimes all over the field and ripping hearts out they respected Tampa plenty.

It’s not the media’s fault they gave BM $100M. Was that supposed to all of a sudden make the lip-sticked pig a dime piece?

They went 9-8 last season – got gifted a Philly team in total free fall in the first round and then Golden Boy choked with a pick late.

You want that den of vipers to respect you?

    Win.

Us fan believe, but this team has more work to do to overcome it’s early history of a perennial loser. That can start with doing it without Brady or resting on a 25 year old historical defense.

  26. Citrus County Says:

My point is this. The only reason we got respect during the TB12 era is just that. Without Brady even the media respect for BA would not have made us relevant. Brady was the prima donna that brought us the attention. Once he left so did the media respect. The vultures loved to swoop in during the Jaboo years. Negative controversy and enough picks to make things interesting only put us in the shadows the media likes so much. Baker Mayfield does not fit the prima donna mold, he’s blue collar. Bret Favre was the same blue collar type, no prima donna, but he played for the Green Bay Packers and the media will never favor the Bucs over the Packers.

Compare the stats I posted earlier. The Bucs have better overall winning stats than NO, ATL, & CAR.
The media is now in love with ATL because of their shiny new prima donna in spite of his age and questionable health. You watch, if cousins fails Penix will be the new prima donna that will be in their view a much better QB than Baker.

  28. Citrus County Says:

Atlanta is also at the center of a certain controversy surrounding a certain figure that the captured and controlled media loathe.

  29. JoseyBucs40 Says:

Superbowl here we come and I promise you the Chiefs don’t wanna see us that time of year

  30. Mike S Says:

Citrus – being the brightest kid in dumb class isn’t going to move the needle.

The highest ranked team in the division is at 14 – Bucs on the Fox ranking and Atl on the NFL ranking.

Have you peaked over at the vid snips coming out of Falcons camp? Word is Cousins is healthy and Pitts looks explosive. Don’t for a second doubt they are going to be tough. Morris is no longer a rookie coach and Zac Robinson comes out of that same coveted offensive coaching tree. They are going to make a run at double digit wins. Bucs better be ready.

  31. Citrus County Says:

I don’t care one whit about ATL. The argument here is why don’t the Bucs get any respect from the media. I laid out my case for the Bucs deserving that respect. It seem to me that you are a dirty bird lover. You have that right, but we have the last 3 NFC South titles and you don’t. We also have TWO Super Bowl wins that the pigeons don’t have.

  32. White Tiger Says:

The front office isn’t the only ones quietly seething… who do these media types think WATCH the tripe they serve up to fans?!

Like the chip on my shoulder, helps me remember to keep all my receipts l.

    Just keep winning baby!
