Gerald McCoy Tutoring Calijah Kancey

July 28th, 2024

Former Bucs All-Pro greets Calijah Kancey with open arms.

It’s really cool that budding star defensive tackle Calijah Kancey respects Bucs history.

Earlier this month, Kancey attended Von Miller’s “Sack Summit” to find an edge with his pass rush. One of the instructors Kancey bonded with was Buccaneers Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

Some four weeks later, Kancey has tapped into the knowledge from former Tampa Bay six-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

GMC was at Bucs practice this morning as he was on assignment with NFL Network. Both he and NFL Network reporter Sara Walsh were broadcasting from the practice fields of One Buc Palace.

Joe thinks this is so cool that Kancey is bonding with Bucs greats. And both had no problem sharing widsom with the second-year defensive tackle from Pitt.

One is never too good to learn more.

Calijah doesn’t have the arm length to finish that move. It’s nice that he’s sharing though.

    How do you know that?

  3. WilieG Says:

Don’t tell Ian Beckles GMC is tutoring Kancey, he might have a stroke.

  4. Saskbucs Says:

He brought out the snowcone truck again for the team haha. I know fans like to bash Gerald for his “softness” but I have always been a McCoy fan. Could he have been better with a rougher edge, an angrier personality, probably but the guy is a happy soul. He’s a good, fun loving human who still loves the Bucs and gave us a lot of good years on bad teams.

It’s nice to see a positive comment about GMc. Fans wanted him to be nasty like Sapp but GMc isn’t Sapp.
    Pro Bowls:
    Sapp 7
    McCoy 6
I guess nice guys do finish last.

  6. Drunkinybor Says:

Citrus County whoops 🤭 pro scout from couch watchers says

  7. Cobraboy Says:

Just, please, no superheroes, ice cream, or softness.

Oops. Looks like he brought ice cream. Wanna bet it’s soft-serve.

I kept waiting for McCoy to break out and dominate. But, no. His first quick step was for naught in the big picture.

  8. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Kancey is a serious cat. He is going to be a good one. McCrybaby is still a tool.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

GRRRR!!! IM SO ANGRY!!! HOW DARE YOU SHOW ICE CREAM MAN HE BAD!!!! GRRRR!!! HE LIKE BATMAN, THAT MAKES ME SOFT ANGRY!!!! SOFT SOFT SOFT !!!! GRRRRR!!!!

  10. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Rod, I’m not sure what your point is in your comic comment. Not sure of your comedy either.

  11. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Good dude good player not great

  12. Rod Munch Says:

BucsfaninOregon – I’m mocking all the low IQ idiots who hated on McCoy the entire time he was here, making pro-bowl after pro-bowl and these morons would be yelling and screaming about him being soft, because they only like men who are hard.

C’mon Cobraboy, if your going to be my neighbor (I don’t forget) at least be fair. Was a 6 time pro bowl lineman not good enough just because his image didn’t jibe with your jive talk ?

  15. Teflon Don Says:

McCoy was a great player who played on a bad bucs team. Let’s not forget how horrible we were back then. One player can only do so much in a team sport like football. Glad Kancey is receptive to learning from the past greats

  16. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Gerald McCoy.

The not so “Durable Donnie” of the defense.

Please stay away from our team.
Your aw shucks BS routine needs to go away.

    Forever.

    GRRRRRRRRR

  17. Dave Pear Says:

McCoy never made a game changing play. Not one. Maybe hanging onto Matt Ryan’s ankle on 4th down to help seal a win but that’s it.

In three seasons, Suh made more game changing plays than Geraldine did in her entire career.

Good dude, love to have him as a neighbor. Most overrated Buccaneer of all time.

  18. unbelievable Says:

Hahaha an article mentioning GMC gets predictable response here.

    SaskBucs summed it up well.

As for the KanceyMan, love seeing him soak up knowledge from a multitude of former great players. The more the better IMO.

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

GMC need to be in the ring of honor he was the only good player we had on our D line back than. People be haten on him for no reason at all it wasn’t his fault that most of his career the bucs didn’t build around him on the defensive line. I still never understood why do our fan base hate all of our former players that left ? But have more love for players that come from other teams!!

  20. Tony Says:

They should have him learn from McCoy & Simeon. Since you can rotate Kancey. Both of them would help.

  21. Mike C Says:

To be fair, alot of buc fans lost respect for him when they saw him laughing and smiling while getting thrashed on the field in a blow out.

  22. Dave Pear Says:

Otard need to be medicated. It’s uncanny how wrong someone can be on every take. Thankfully Jason Licht always does the exact opposite of what the Otard says or thinks.

  23. Tony Says:

I don’t know if I’d listen to Sapp. About football I get it but I don’t think I’d be hanging out with him outside of football. Unless Kancey is desperate to find a girl then Sapp could help.đź’©

  24. Natron Says:

GMC had fun all the way to the bank $$$$$$$

  25. DoooshLaRue Says:

Oh Kneelz needs to be in the special Ring of Honor for spelling and insight.

    He be goot.

  26. dmatt Says:

Calijah, my bad Ben, I mean Gerald, thanks for the tidbit, but I was expecting Sapp.

  27. Cometowin2 Says:

Most under appreciated Bucs player ever. Never had any other great players on the D-Line with him. Thanks Gerald!

  28. Hodad Says:

Does this mean Kancey’s renting an ice cream truck for after practice?

  29. Citrus County Says:

Here’s a question for the McCoy haters. Would you swap Logan Hall for him ? Gerald being Gerald from back then.

  30. Citrus County Says:

    McCoys stats:
2021 (LV): 0 tackles (did not play due to injury)

  31. Citrus County Says:

Say what you will but since McCoy left production from our down linemen hasn’t been that good. Granted Vea has taken all the double teams but McCoy took a few as well if I recall correctly. Kancey is going to make a huge difference and he’ll take pressure off Vita.
Look out mama there’s a pirate boat coming up the river with a big red beacon and a flag and a man on the rail. I think you better call for help ’cause it don’t look like they’re here to deliver the mail.

  32. NCBuc Says:

@ Davie Pearless…… I’m gonna list of some stats for you. You tell me who you’d keep. The stats are rated from an average from years playing with the Bucs. You claim to know all that is right in the world, so answer this!
    #1
    Sacks-4.83
    FF-0.33
    FR-1.67
    Solo-37.37
    TFL-7.67

    Solo-22.56

Stats count as facts! So tell me Davie Pearless or as I’m starting to think you might actually Tmaxipad in disguise! Who would you want on your team? All DT btw

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. God bless you I see you hate GMC as well I hope you get some help brother!!

  34. Oneilbuc Says:

Doosh . Grow up again you guys hate every former bucs player and if Godwin leaves after this year you will be talking bad about him as well.

  35. NCBuc Says:

    Blocked?

  36. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. I’m not wrong when I say what the bucs should do rather they do it or not it’s call a opinion. But one fact I do know is Jason Licht is not good drafting runningbacks that’s been proven so far. The bucs haven’t had a 1,000 yard rusher in 9 years since 2015 . He sucks picking runningbacks and Jason Licht is not a top GM in the NFL. Top GMs don’t miss on a whole draft class like he did in 2016 when every player he drafted didn’t last 3 years on the roster as a starter .

  37. Citrus County Says:

Apparently no one caught the Neil Young reference. Does anyone even know the man ? I’ll bet Ira does.

  38. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Oh Kneelz,

Former Bucs I do not hate:
    Warren Sapp
    John Lynch
    JPP
    Suh
    Nacho
    Alex Cappa
    Mike Edwards
    Tanner Hudson
    Succop
    Scotty Miller

That’s just some of them you freaking moron.

And who in the hell could ever hate CG?

    Your retardation is limitless.

  39. NCBuc Says:

So Davie Pearless, Dooosh, Tmaxipad, or whatever you want to call yourself….. Answer the question!

  40. Mike Says:

Hey oneilbuc you sound very dumb and slow wouldn’t be surprised if you were on the short bus when you were in school. Jason licht IS top gm on this league and I bet if you looked it up you will see many gms have missed completely on drafts even the good ones, the draft is a crap shoot no one truly knows how good these players will be as a gm you’ll never bat thousand. What about the next few drafts like 2020? Or this year? Jason licht has done a good job thus far he’s he’s made mistakes like all humans do.

  41. SlyPirate Says:

GMC is larger than CK but I was surprised how close in size they are.

  42. Dave Pear Says:

Geraldine did not deliver in crunch time. One half of one play in her entire career. Stats are nice and all. Ask BA why he dumped Geraldine and got JL to sign Sue.

  43. Dave Pear Says:

    Suh – damn autocorrect

  44. Dave Pear Says:

    Suh.

  45. Rod Munch Says:

God there’s a lot of stupid people in here with terrible takes.

Stop listening to sports talk then repeating whatever the guy on the radio said, it makes you sound like a moron.

  46. heyjude Says:

Mentoring, tutoring, and guiding future players is what it is all about. Good for Gerald McCoy taking part of it. That is real leadership and dedication. It also says a lot of how much he is still loyal to the Bucs. Calijah is lucky for McCoy’s efforts. Gerald is our Batman!

  47. Oneilbuc Says:

Mike S . Jason Licht was about to be fired if it wasn’t for the bucs giving Brady the power he had here. Brady was the one who brought in AB ,Gronk and Fournet . Remember they were calling Brady the GM at the time even you guys on here. Remember what Brady wants Brady gets slogan? He drafted Wirst because he 3 other teams passed on him and he felt to us because the 49ers didn’t need a LT . I’ve never seen a GM miss on whole draft class and still a GM . He could have drafted Nick Chubb, he pass on the runningback man I forgot his name right now for OJ Howard and look at the runningback he drafted this year Bucky is a small runningback with no power. You had the big runningback out of Wisconsin right there and he passed on him as well. How about JTS and Logan Hall I was telling people no one in Houston was talking about Logan Hall I have never heard of him until the bucs drafted him . And then you draft a liman that played only one year as a center and the rest of his college career he was a LT and you trying to make him a center. Power Johnson is a true center I would have just drafted him if you going to draft a liman which I wouldn’t never do are less he’s a LT .

  48. Jacob Vest Says:

lol, the fans on this site are always in full clown make up when GMC comes up.
He was great, it’s just facts, the teams he led were beyond hot trash. You can say stupid things like “he never made a game changing play” yall were pushing that narrative while he was here, doesn’t make it remotely true. The only people, in the entire football world that don’t recognize how great he was, are you salty clowns.

  49. HC Grover Says:

    Uh Oh

  50. BigBucsFan Says:

Trolls ruin the read of most Joe’s articles. Definitely no need to read and write comments anymore, for it’s hard to tell this is Bucs fansite when reading so called fans comments. I think gmc was a very talented player that played during Bucs lost decades. Different coaching ,bad coaching every to every other season when he played. He would be loved on this team right now, especially with all the jts haters Mcoy would be a shine on the line so give up your past feelings that you had during the seasons he played because those were miserable seasons and the guy was a good player who would rather laugh than cry and grimace. Just because the individual writing a comment is a sourpuss doesn’t mean that everybody he’s trying to relate to has to be as well. And I guess I should clarify it’s only a few bad apples the majority posts I can either agree with or feel enlightened upon the information they shared
