Film Tells Vita Vea He Can Be A 10-Sack Guy
July 17th, 2024The goal is clear for big No. 50, and he says it’s attainable.
Vita Vea was talking about his personal goals on the Green Light podcast this week and said his big goal is the same as it was last year: become a double-digit sack guy.
Vea had 5 1/2 sacks last season but none in his final five regular season games played. The film shows he’s leaving sacks on the table, Vea said, and it eats away at him.
“My biggest goal I think I’ve had, it’s been the same goal the past couple of years, is to try to reach double-digits in sacks,” Vea said. “I think that’s my biggest goal. I think it’s attainable for me. I think I just got to lock it in a little bit more, especially just watching film, like, ‘Dang, missing this play.” Or there’s a couple of freebies that you miss … if I was just there a second quicker.”
Vea went on to talk about how he needs to study film and his playbook even more intently. “Just trying to hone in. … I think it’s right there. I think I just gotta take the next couple of steps to get there.”
Joe thinks Vea can do it. He has the talent. And, frankly, Joe’s hungry for more Vea sack celebrations. Bring back the lawnmower, Vita!

He needs to cut out alcohol. (Like Brady)
He needs to start slow jogging.
He needs to work out more.
He needs to become an All-Pro.
It’s shameful that the greatest athlete maybe in the history of humanity, Vita Vea, has never been an All-Pro.
There has never been a man in the NFL as big, strong, fast and athletic as Vita Vea.
And what did he do with his God-Like body?
Not 1 Pro-Bowl.

Awesome….6 years with the Bucs and he is JUST now figuring this out now? Even with Suh as his mentor?

Vita Vea is trying to avoid being Dontari Poe. Poe had the same type of ability and was out the league at 31.

How much longer on his contract? He night also be thinking about that

If it were assists on sacks were a thing, like making your teammates around you jobs easier Vita would be John Stockton. Actually wanting to be the guy getting the sacks, is mamba mentality

Vea has been asked to be a nose tackle, that’s not an easy role in this defense, he’s a boss, just adding to an already deep awesome resume. He’s been great, believe he’s about to become awesome.

Agree with teacherman for the most part – fans of their own team tend to be huge homers and grossly overvalue their teams’ guys, and passionately overreact to any modicum of constructive criticism and as such loosely throw around the overused term of “disrespectful” as if a pundit talked about how ugly their wife and kids are. Take an honest look at Vita, he has not been dominant. He has not played to his potential since 2020. And even then, he was hurt for most of the year. Same applies to Devin White. Any coincidence that is when the Bucs defense won it all and were at their best? When Vita surmised that it was “time to grow up” or something to that effect was very telling if not annoying

IDK. Haven’t looked up the stats but Haloti Ngata was crazy big, fast, and talented.

Vea says it is attainable. Hope so. Cannot wait to see how the changes with his mind and body work out on the field. Optimistic.
Scotty Miller in the podcast! Good to see. Always liked him too.

You’re right bro.
But that’s because Ngata played with more HEART and worked way harder than Vea.
But that’s a great comparison to make bro.

Ngata played with like 5 HOFers and wasn’t asked to be a catalyst to anything but clogging run lanes. Vita, sackwise, clears Ngata at this point in his career and I’ll question a players performance all day, but you don’t know that man to know how big of a heart he has kill that noise.

At this point, he is who he is Joe. He’s a good player. Never going to be more than that and that’s fine. We won a superbowl with him which is all we can ask any player.

I love Vea. I also agree that it appears to us on the outside that he has underachieved in his career, at least a little bit.

Vita can and should do it. With better coaching he already would have.

Let’s see – 5.5 sacks playing 50% of the snaps. There could be a way to get to 10 sacks. If only I could figure it out.

Hrs needs to hone in more? After all this time in the same defense? That’s telling and unfortunately it’s telling me thats its not good. C,mon big guy, I know it comes easy. He could have been a all time great if he trained 20 percent like J.Rice did.
