“I Just Got Too Comfortable Being Out Here”
July 15th, 2024Will leaner Vita Vea be a better Vita Vea this season?
Joe’s not sure, but Vea is excited and was heard talking about his offseason body work today.
That’s when the latest Green Light podcast dropped with Vea as a special guest.
Vea explained that he feels training outside of Tampa this offseason was key for him. His comments reminded Joe of one of the ancient Rocky movies when the heavyweight champ went to Siberia to get his head right before a title fight.
“The one thing about Tampa, I love it here, and I think I just got too comfortable being out here,” Vea said of Tampa.
“I think I took a bigger step this year going out, actually relocating where I was training this offseason and heading out to Oregon. I think that was a big thing for me. …
“So I had just gotten really comfortable here. I think I needed a change of scenery and just kind of grow up in my own sense. Trying something new, that’s what I did. I think it helped me out a lot. My body feels good right now.”
Joe expects Vea to be his usual self, dominant at times but a step below being an elite player. However, the Bucs should be a better team if Vea can be on the field longer, which could be the net result of his weight loss.
Is Joe worried about a nose tackle shedding weight? Not when it’s essentially a guy going from 360 pounds to 345.

The right coach would and should turn Vita into an elite player.

He admitted what I’ve been saying for 3 years.
He hasn’t evolved at all. His body looks worse. Even the grey hair. Alcohol and dehydration causes gray hair also. I’m 41. No grey hair.
He has actually declined in strength and speed since his rookie year.
He is like JPP. Top 10 NFL freaks of all time.
But like JPP, Vea took his “god-like” body for granted.

I drank way too much alcohol in my earlier years and didn’t have grey hair until my late 50s. Grey hair is more about genetics than anything else.

Good for Vea saying things were too comfortable for him and changing the training scenery to improve. He says he feels great! Fantastic news for the Bucs and for him too.

(teacherman 1983 says) Alcohol and dehydration gives you gray hair. I am 60 and drink Alcohol probably 3-4 days a week and have zero gray hair. Walk about 2 to 3 miles every other day. Do chair yoga 5 days a week. Gray hair from Alcohol (What)? My mom had zero gray hair up into her late 70’s.Vita Vea is a top 10 nose tackle in the NFL. Pay attention to the actions of this guy he busted his A– this off season. He will be a beast can’t wait for the season. So steal a frase Let Frickin Go. If the Bucs stay healthy we got a chance in every game they play. Bucs Bucs Bucs

Wait… Is he saying he took it for granted or that he was getting lazy? Playing too much Nintendo on the couch?
Go Bucs!

I wonder where he and Suh trained in Oregon? Suh is a part-owner in a cool bar in Bend, OR, called The River Pig. Bend is an amazing town if you’ve never been. Higher elevation and great for training. I’ve never seen Suh in town so I doubt he has a home here. Lots of former pro athletes live here. Bledsoe was our high school football coach. He’s a super chill country boy. If you ever see him, say hi. He’s a super guy.
3 Fun facts about Bend:
1. Most Iron Man Triathletes per capita.
2. Most dogs per capita.
3. Most brew pubs per capita.
Interesting History about Suh: Oregon is dead serious about college football. Duck fans are almost SEC crazy (almost). Not surprising Bama hired UW HC. Suh was so mean in high school that no P12 college offered him a scholarship. Can you imagine being too mean for football? Best college defensive football player I’ve ever seen. Heard he’s a good dude now.

Watching the D in person lets you see the Drop when Vea isn’t lined up . I would love to see a first down avg run gain when Vea is in vs not …….. In person the drop off of him in vs out appeared to be HUGE !! The rotation at times seemed almost ridiculous…… like two plays and a first down and on the 3 rd play 1 st and 10 he’s out ……… for the love of our maker at least leave him in on first down

Vita Vea was an “aw shucks” kind of guy as a rookie. Licht had to put a bug in his ear, y’all know, light a fire under him. Now he has done it on his own it appears. Good for him!

Finally committed to being a professional, when the money got real. Sad.
Vea knows he has been lax in his fitness approach while enjoying all that Tampa has to offer & that limited his performance the last few years….Meaning he knows he’s now at a Cap Hit price point where there is an outside chance the Bucs would cut him after 2024 to save $10M+ in 2025 cap space, if he doesn’t play like a $20M+ NG/DT game wrecker he was signed to be when the FO gave him to that big money deal.
He can look at Shaq Barrett as a recent example of the FO losing faith & limiting the franchises loses…Over paid, under performed, gone.
