Rachaad White Details Season Goals

July 11th, 2024

Locked in.

He’s got goals. And if Rachaad White meets any of his personal goals, Joe is going to take a wild guess and suggest the Bucs will be just fine this fall.

White was on the “Rich Eisen Show” earlier this week. Among the things Eisen got White to talk about was his goals for the 2024 season.

White, smartly, began discussing team goals. Not hovering around .500 was foremost on White’s mind.

“The biggest goal obviously is we want to win,” White said. “I won eight games my rookie year, nine games last year. We’re trying to triple that [difference] this year.

“I’m looking for us to win 12, 13 games.

Yeah, Joe thinks if the Bucs win 12 games, they’ll open the playoffs with another home game. Maybe two.”

But on to individual goals. Here too, if White meets most of these, Joe’s going to guess the Bucs will be in good shape come January.

More than once since the 2023 season ended, you can tell White is irked he finished just shy of 1,000 yards rushing last year. He often brings this up.

In his appearance with Eisen, this was no different. It seems like White is driven to get past that 1,000-yard plateau.

“There hasn’t been a 1,000-yard rusher here in like nine years,” White said. “Obviously I was 10 yards short of that last year. I’m going to make sure I’m not that short of it this year and go well over that.”

But clearly, White emphasized team goals.

“Whatever I can do to help the team win,” White said of his personal goals. “We’ve been last or 25th [or worse in the league] the past five or six years, even with the Super Bowl, when it comes to rushing.

“What I expect [myself] to do is to turn that around. And that’s to be top-10, top-15 or top-12 at the minimum.”

Well, if the Bucs are in the top-half of the league in rushing, that tells Joe that the Bucs are winning. Hell, they won last year with no running game.

We all know White is very, very good catching the ball out of the backfield. And it seems White knows this too. He’s not worried about receiving yards.

“The scrimmage yards will take care of themselves,” White said. “I’ve always been good catching the ball.”

For the past four seasons, the Bucs have been a playoff team without a monster run game. Honestly, they didn’t need it and when they did need to lean on the run, Playoff Lenny always came to the rescue.

If the Bucs can add that strong running game to the offensive attack, they should be just fine.

Goodness. Five of the last 10 articles have focused on one player out of 53 on the roster and around 90 all told at this moment. At least this one is minus the preamble describing how atrocious he is as a runner while being near elite as a receiver. We get it. That said, nice change up. Joe. And yes, we realize it’s slow season and we appreciate all articles.

Would be interesting to know however, what’s some of the other young guys are doing training wise in the off-season. Watts, Ramirez, all the other young players, they must be doing some marginally newsworthy off season training. White gets enough ink.

In a 17 game season, 1000yds isn’t the same as it used to be. A 100 yard game is a good goal, or even something like 4.5 yd average. Still, a lot of those numbers represent play calling and OL success and not necessarily White playing better.

When one of the other key Bucs starters doing a media carwash in the middle of July when it is otherwise dead for NFL news, please let Joe know and he’ll write about those guys too.

Not sure what folks want Joe to write about on July 11. Not sure how Joe is supposed to ignore a starting running back doing national and local interviews.

Once again, it’s July people. The NFL is closed for business right now.

Joe, I guess you missed the last two sentences of my first paragraph. We are well aware it’s dead season. And grateful for the content. I’ve just personally had my fill of White. But as always, thanks again for giving us something fresh adjacent.

Keep ’em coming Joes! This fan appreciates it. JBF is #1 for a reason.

Rachaad White was #14 in rushing yards in 2023 at 990.

If his goal isn’t 4.5yds/carry, 10+ explosive runs (20yds+) & ~1200yds on the ground…He’s missing the mark on being a top tier NFL RB.

Well I think it’s time to put up and shut up at this point. Self expectation and I wants are past tense at this point. SHOW UP.. I like the guy and I had some real hopes when he was drafted, great pass catching and making people look a little silly in space. The online has some new pieces and I do hope Bucky doesn’t come out a show us all how it’s done. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

Hey Joe, any chance of interviewing some position coaches this month?

  9. Fred McNeil Says:

I was gonna guess that White makes himself more readily available. Apparently I guessed right. There’s only a very few reasons players get mentioned in July and almost none of them are good. Ask Deven Thompkins. He’s claiming the woman lied and maybe she did. His career is still ruined either way.

  10. Dave Pear Says:

Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand. Make it happen, Rachaad.

The same Playoff Lenny that averaged 3.7ypc to White’s 3.9ypc in White’s rookie year came to the rescue? Doesn’t look much like rescuing IMHO. But hey, the line was that good, right? Must’ve been for a Rescuing Playoff Lenny to manage less yards per carry than White. The world makes sense now. Thank you Joe!

Another 25 year old that could have a breakout year. Rachaad has been keeping himself available and I like what he is saying.

I am still surprised Leonard hasn’t found a landing spot team yet. Hope he does soon.

  13. Craig Says:

The first time I see him dancing behind the O-line, when he should be expanding any hole he sees. I will probably die laughing.

Making speech’s in the off season has to be followed up on the field, but last year he said how good he would be and failed as anything other than a slot receiver.

  14. Geno711 Says:

Don’t miss blocks in playoff games that lead to two sacks!

  15. Larrd Says:

Being featured in 250+ JBF articles seems pretty doable for him this year.
