Derrick Ward Lands In Houston

It looks like Kardashian-chasing Derrick Ward has landed guaranteed money and a golden opportunity with the playoff-contending Houston Texans.
That didn’t take long.
And Joe’s not surprised, Ward looked like a real NFL running back against the Jacksonville Jaguars before the Bucs cut him shortly after for reasons unclear.
Various outlets are reporting Ward signed with the Texans yesterday.
Now in a contract year after becoming a new free agent, Joe would hardly blink if Ward put up strong numbers this season.

“reasons unclear”?? Sucking is not a clear cut reason? Now that he no longer has a big money guaranteed contract, he may actually show a little commitment and improve. He sucked last year, then showed up fat and out of shape this year. That tells his story. Another lazy, unmotivated player who doesn’t care once you show him the money! That’s the danger of Free agency. Some players put up big numbers to get that long term, high dollar contract. Once they get it, they mail it in . Haynesworth and Ward both proved, that while you can judge skill level, you can’t judge a players heart.

Saying we should have kept him because of a 4 carry 19 yard performance (where 3 of his carries averaged 2.3 yards) in preseason is almost as bad as Raheem challenging the media to talk bad about Clayton after his performance in Dallas. One good game does not cure all ills. He was distinctly average last year, you said it yourself multiple times during the off season, and he was bad in training camp/pre season. How is that not a clear reason?

Caddy, Huggins, Smith at running back doesn’t cause anybody concern?

The real question is if Caddy goes down can Huggins and Smith get it done? Is Huggins an everydown back? I hope we do not have to find out this year, for Caddy’s sake. I think he can be more so than Smith, but a year or two backing up Caddy would be good for him. I just can not wait until next Sunday to watch a real football game! GO BUCS!

If Caddy stays healthy, no I’m not too worried. Huggins is in the same spot Graham was a couple years back. Not to say that he’s going to have the same success, but at least there is a precedent. The two of them I think would be fine as long as our O-Line steps up its run blocking. But that IS predicated on two big if statements, so ya, I’m a little worried. I’m just going to hope for the best and hope Dom decides to pick a RB in next year’s draft.

I also think the Bucs initially had an idea that their FA signings were going to get them through last year with an 8-8ish record to tide them over while they rebuilt with rookies. Obviously, that didn’t work out for them, so by mid year they just bought into the “rebuilding” term and took their losses. It explains the stupid QB competition, the signing of Ward, K2, and Crowell. I’m not saying it was a good decision, just that its the likely explanation. At least K2 worked out.

Again, if the Lions cut Kevin Smith we need to scoop him quick! That or trade for Tashard Choice from Dallas. I like Huggins but he is a shot in the dark.

Why is everybody so negative about Huggins?He was our best running back in training camp.I know he’s undersized.But the man is fast and he adds a whole new dimension to our attack.We can always hold onto Smith in case it doesn’t work out.

Same guy, same attitude but a different team. First time that things go bad for him, he’ll crawl up in his little hole again and whine like a B__ch. He couldn’t find a hole to run through to save his life, even when they were there, and had a knack for running into his own linemen’s butts. I would take a new rookie any day over Ward. His heart isn’t in it, like Clayton…”Where’s my Check”.

How much guarenteed money did he get? What were the contract terms.
The more I think about it the more the NFL just throws around millions to players at the expense of the fans wallet for tickets.

Eric — Ward was picked up because Dom started in Allen mode. Not sure why. But if you look at Dom’s first year compared to this year, seems he got the message from the Glazers (“if you think short-term, we think short-term”)

Caddy is fine, but I think it’s ridiculous and scary that Huggins is “the savior” already. Relax people!!! The guy was on the practice squad last year, so don’t get your hopes up. Yes, i think he played well this preseason, but what about Graham?? What they need to do is shop around for a good fullback, so they can move Graham back to where he belongs.
I have nothing against Kareem Huggins, I just think we need to be realistic here. Start him out as the #3 running back and let him work his way up after getting some experience in the regular season.

First you slam the guy left and right during the preseason and when the Bucs cut him and he signs with Houston, you almost proclaim he wil have an all pro year. Your beginning to sound like the rest of the Bay are hacks, Joe.
