Bargain Baker Mayfield

June 14th, 2024

“I’ll buy you dinner, Kyle.”

Man, Joe is floored by the Jaguars handing middle-of-the-pack quarterback Trevor Lawrence a five-year contract extension at what reports say is $55 million per year plus incentives.

The stage sure seems set for fellow starting QBs Tua Tagovailoa, Jordan Love and Dak Prescott to make as much or more.

Lawrence will earn more than Jared Goff ($53 million per year) Justin Herbert ($52.5 million) and Lamar Jackson ($52 million).

Patrick Mahomes is now way underpaid and a bunch of guys in earning in the mid-$30-million range and in the 40s are straining to look up.

Pro Bowl Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield’s new contract gives him $30 million this season and next, and $40 million if he sticks in 2026.

Man, what a deal the Bucs got!

Mayfield is a better player than Lawrence, who has a quarterback guru for a head coach. And Mayfield just turned 29 years old. He’s got at least five years of prime quarterbacking years left.

Old man Kirk Cousins got a $50 million signing bonus and a $12.5 million salary to try and fix the Falcons in 2024. Next year, he’ll be stuck making Mayfield money.

As a bonus for the Bucs, Joe thinks Mayfield isn’t the kind of guy to squeeze the Bucs for more money if he has another Pro Bowl season this year. That squeeze probably comes hard if Mayfield  has a good 2025 season for Tampa Bay.

one good season……..and how many bad ones?

    bake got paid well

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

55 million dollars for a Daniel Jones clone will get you fired. Poor deal.

  3. Let ‘em bake Says:

One good season… the same as Lawrence .

  4. Dude Says:

I mean, this is what people who watch the NFL salary cap predicted when the new media deal was done. That contract sizes were going to ballon from 2023-2025 with the extra money being raked in from all the different tv/streaming deals.

They paid Lawrence a little extra as a bonus as he’s the only starting NFL QB in the state of FL that can see over the OL from a 3 step drop lol

  5. Eric Says:

Who would Joe take Trevor or baker ok stop with the non sense!

  6. SB~LV Says:

and the G’Boyz talked PappaG into bidding 160 million for the Buccaneer franchise 💰💰💰🚛🚛🚛

    Boss-
    3 good seasons (rookie 2018, 2020, 2023)
1 bad season (2019, sophomore slump imo)
1 injury season(2021 torn labrum week 2, played visibly injured)
1 lost season (2022, traded to Carolina, then to the rams)

I think he has his limitations, and the baker we saw last year is probably close to his ceiling. But try to actually look at his history and see the real side of his 4 years with Cleveland.

  8. Marine Buc Says:

Lawrence had two years left on his rookie deal. If I were a Jags fan I would have liked to see him play one more season before the team gave him this huge amount of guaranteed money.

It will be interesting to see how this works out for them.

  9. realistic-optimistic Says:

Mayfield is a better player than Lawrence

    That’s a leap.

Baker fans are always crying about how he’s had a raw deal. He had to play for Hue Jackson. He joined a bad organization. Boo hoo

Did he have to play for Urban Meyer? Do you consider the Jags to be a beacon of success?

Despite a completely wasted rookie season under Meyer, he has the same playoff win% as bakie, and he has twice as many 4K seasons (in half the time).

Now, I don’t think Lawrence has earned 55 mil per, but he is still a very young, ascending QB. He still plays for the team that drafted him (not discarded by 3 teams).

The difference between the two salaries is rooted in potential. There’s a funny thing with potential; people stop believing in your potential if it takes you too long to reach it.

  10. Bucben61 Says:

The bucs got a potential top 10 quarterback for a substantial bargain ..always the same people bitching and belly aching….

  11. realistic-optimistic Says:

Always the same people romanticizing …

  12. Beeej Says:

We get Baker + Evans for the same price. They get Lawrence, I think we got a pretty good deal

Dude Says: “They paid Lawrence a little extra as a bonus as he’s the only starting NFL QB in the state of FL that can see over the OL from a 3 step drop.”

LMAO that’s the funniest comment I’ve read maybe ever.

  14. Noo Joisy Boy Says:

Lawrence was paid for the future; Mayfield was paid for a year maybe two.

  15. Costa Rica John Says:

I wonder how much the price of a beer at the stadiums will go up now? 🤔

  16. Mobucs Says:

Just for the record, how many of you think Baker was overpaid last year for what he did? It will give some perspective to your opinions.

  17. godlovesbucs Says:

People forget baker had 2 good seasons in Cleveland. 2018 and 2020 were fairly similar to 2023 on his part.

2019 was not good, but IMO most QBs have a tough time year 2 of starting cause people have a seasons worth of film to see what their tendencies are, they need to learn adapt.

2021 he tore his shoulder week 2 of the season. To me that’s not a season to even look at, he probably shouldn’t have been playing.

2022 he got traded last minute to Carolina (worst team in NFL and a TERRIBLE o) and then to the rams mid season. No off-season to prep, no help on o and no time to get a rhythm.

He has had more good than bad. Not much that screams excellent, but good.

  18. Boss Says:

“I wonder how much the price of a beer at the stadiums will go up now?”

no need for a price increase……

the amount of sauce needed to watch these cats get shallacked this year will be through the roof.

  19. Beeej Says:

Has Fabio ever had a really good season?

  20. D Cone Says:

People tend to view their worth more that it really is. Baker made the deal. What does that tell you?

Mayfield took the deal vs. testing the Market because to do so would have risked signing for less due to the fact that the demand was not as great as he or the Local Droolers may have thought. Even with the QB Free Agent Pool being so small.

  21. Beeej Says:

Falcons, Steelers or Bronco’s all would have paid him far more than the Bucs. He was the number two free agent QB after Kirk Cousins. He sees a good situation here and unlike Dak, he understands if he makes too much money, the team fails

  22. heyjude Says:

Good for Trevor. It was a shock though. Mac Jones contract is around $15 million and runs through 2025. I heard he has been impressive in mini-camp. So they have two good QBs right now. Trevor’s money is an incentive for Mac.

Baker is a good QB. Never forget he has had eight coaches, four teams, and I think nine OCs, Coen twice but different teams. The Panthers have had comings and goings mostly due to their fickled owner. The Browns took Watson. A huge error in judgement. And Baker is still doing well. This season is going to be even better!

  23. Boss Says:

bake was overpaid last year as well.

4 mill for a guy who has never done squat. he comes in and limps us through a cake year and he is now the GOAT. Shaun King could have won with this team.

    THE CURRENT SHAUN KING

    lol

Boss: Are you SURE you don’t hate the Bucs?

  25. Boss Says:

I love the bucs………if I did not I would not point out the obvious

We have 2 20 million dollar WR’s, and QB with a decent arm AND

We are a run 1st team????

  26. Boss Says:

that makes no sense at all. nor does having and SUBERB secondary talent and playing 10 yards off the LOS

don’t get me started on the lack of pass rush and todd’s so called defensive mastery.

the contradictions are to glaring to ignore.

oh, but we all love up the gut on 1st and a cloud of dust.

  27. geno711 Says:

I got to be honest, I wanted Baker to be signed for a little less. Seeing how much contracts have gone for, I was wrong. We still got Baker at a good price.

If we wanted to sign somebody for less, I am guessing that it would have been Jamies Winston or Jimmy G. Or worse yet, someone as weak as Shawn King.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

“Mayfield is a better player than Lawrence”

    LOL!

    No, he’s not.

  29. Camila's Dad Says:

I’m not a huge fan of Baker. I think he’ s a slightly above average QB. But I agree that he’ s better than Trevor Lawrence, who (at least so far) is a not funny version of Jameis

  30. Mike Says:

Baker slightly ahead of Trevor, yeah right!
Don’t make me laugh, he didn’t have a great year last year, he was just over 500
But then again that can be considered a great year for Baker. 🤔
Anyway the bucs waisted 50 million guaranteed money on a sub 500 quarter back, can’t be mad at Baker he punked out the organization.
Way to go Baker, at least you’re better at negotiating your contract than playing quarter back

  31. Fred McNeil Says:

Honestly, I think Baler and Trevor are very comparable…except for the hight. Baker is smart to take a more reasonable salary to allow the Bucs to afford a better supporting cast. Tom Brady was the same way. That’s why he has so much bling. I’ve always considered it unwise to bestow such an incredible cut of this salary cap to one player.

  32. Stan says Says:

(Rod Munch is back) thank God someone with great sense and football awareness. I love Baker and am glad he is here for awhile. As usual Rod is correct. Looking forward to reading your opinions again sir.

  33. infomeplease Says:

Looks to me like BM6’s deal was good all around by any measure! Now to win some games (by “some” I mean 10 or 11) then make some magic happen in the post season !! LFG!!

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

When there’s a limited amount of funds for a team, a great QB remembers he’s part of a team. He should be the highest paid, but the more reasonable he is, the more good players the team can put on the field. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. If you’re a big part of losing team, you’ll lose your motivation as others around you do too. Yeah, you’re making super big money but you’re work life is going to suck, and you’re name will always be associated with losing teams, henceforth you’re a very wealthy loser lol.

  35. BakerFan Says:

Mayfield was crazy for signing with this loser of a franchise for so little. Hope he leaves in 2 years. These so called fans don’t deserve a leader like Baker

  36. Saskbucs Says:

Godlovesbucs nailed it. Listen I am biased now after watching a year of Baker but I would take him and this deal every day of the week before Lawrence and his deal. Godlovesbucs laid out Bakers seasons perfectly. Frankly when I did watch Baker with the Browns, wasn’t much, most was probably 2021 and he was clearly hurt and shouldn’t have been playing.

Lawrence had bad coaching and played through injuries last season, I get the potential thing, but watching Lawrence in action last year was watching Baker in 2021. Terrible throws, fumbles. Lawrence was running to the sideline in a game last year and just dropped the ball for a turnover, slipped outta his hands. $55 million!? He’s got Daniel Jones stats! Terrible deal. With those numbers, I would have offered $45 and I would say that’s generous. He has no comps worthy of 55.

  37. BA's Red Pen Says:

The occult of Trask is alive and well I see.

  38. Ol' Boy Says:

If the Jags don’t want a super bowl the paid the right price for the right guy. Jag offs should already know what they have and start planning for to replace rather than re-up. Glad that dude isn’t our GM

  39. stpetebucfan Says:

While we look at these exhorbitant salaries we can ask why. Joe has explained the PIE has just grown that fast with International implications.

IE the owners are awash in money so the players deserve their cut.

What about the fans? If the owners are making a gazillion dollars from all this ADDITIONAL revenue could they perhaps cut ticket prices and beer prices to give loyal fans their cut? I know…bwaahaaahaaa. Or as Buddy Holly sang, “That’ll be the day”.

There is some hope. As more and more people enjoy their home theater view of the game and tire of the traffic, parking and overall hassle of going to an unairconditioned game attendance may start dropping. At some point the law of supply and demand may reach the owners.

The owner are already free of dependence on the fans financially, at least in terms of in person attendance as long as they keep watching. But how exciting is a televised game with empty seats. The fans are becoming part of the show, props that indicate how exciting a team is. Increasingly IMHO the owners WILL be forced to “pay” the people that help make their product more exciting.

  40. Badbucs Says:

Exactly Marine. Why roll the dice a year early. Interesting meaning were they geniuses or fools. The insane spike in the cost of QB could reshape the league. Economy could take down the egregious gamblers. What kind of insurance you got on those hamstrings ACLS?
    .

  41. Craig Says:

If he brings a Lombardi trophy to Tampa, he is a bargain.

If he doesn’t he is just another overpaid, mediocre QBs.

  42. Badbucs Says:

More rookies will be starting on minimal contracts to keep the field players out there. Equilibrium will eventually rebalanced this travesty. RBs suffering the most. Can a 2nd rate qb really be worth 3 times a great RB. Very sick this “equity”.

  43. godlovesbucs Says:

Badbucs- absolutely a 2nd rate QB is worth 3x the top RB. The last all pro RB to win a Superbowl was marshall faulk in 1999. Since then you have seen trent dilfer, brad Johnson, Russel wilson, Nick foles and Matthew Stafford all win Superbowls, all of whom I would say are not considered “elite” at their position at the time of winning or ever for some of them.

  44. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Very good points SPBF.

  45. 1#bucsfan Says:

Great bargain for us. Jason n co have done great job again. Baker n ME13 contracts are great for the franchise so we can keep building. Love it

  46. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker fan. You must be Baker Mayfield son 😅😅!! It’s been 3 other teams said by by to Baker . So if the bucs say bye than you can go follow Baker to college game day on Saturdays .

  47. garro Says:

The money is ridiculous. Talent should be the only reason to pay these guys this kind of money. I gotta say Baker earned his contract but many of these other QBs simply have not. Lawrence is a good QB but…Lamar Jackson? you gotta be kidding me.

    Go Bucs!

  48. Bucben61 Says:

O’Neil bucs the only team to say bye to Baker was Cleveland. He asked to be released from Carolina and the Rams wanted him back..

  49. Booger Says:

That’s all a buncha bull hockey about Baker willingly signing for less and taking a cut. Complete hogwash. He got and took what HE COULD get. Period. There were no other offers out there. End of Story IF the Falcons would’ve given him MORE, then they would’ve instead of signing Cousins. I mean come on now, that is ridiculous. Hell, they could’ve had him for LESS, but they WANTED Cousins. The Broncos and Payton never wanted Baker, & could’ve never afforded him anyway, especially after having to EAT the Russell Wilson contract. And, the STEELERS!? Again, come on. Just PLEASE with all this. People are delusional. Y’all saw how FAST he signed right after Cousins did. Please. PLEASE.

  50. View from 132 Says:

Ludicrous money. $30M, $50M… and your job ends in January (or Feb at most). I don’t see why any of these guys play longer than 2 seasons at that income. Save your body and go on with your life. $100M is generational wealth.

  51. Beeej Says:

The only QB in this league worth 50+ million is Mahomes, who won a Superbowl workout any decent receivers

  52. Marky Mark Says:

The one good season.people are misinformed. 2018 Set rookie record for TDs (good), 2019 threw for more yards but too many int,s (average), 2020 about same as 23 (good), 2021 poor decision to play hurt (bad), 2022 bad teams and was hurt (bad), 2023 rebound season. That is 3 good, 1 average, and 2 bad. Lawrence is being paid to be a ce!ebrity pitch man with Hollywood good looks and a perfect wjfe in addition to being a QB.

  53. Marky Mark Says:

The market and revenue determines salary. If you guys hate the salarjes stop watchjng and going to games. This will make you really angry:

    Top 11 Highest-Earning Soccer Players 2023

  54. Noo Joisy Boy Says:

    @Bucben61

The Rams let Mafield go. They could have re-signed him. But they didn’t, and here’s why, from the NFL website:

“Mayfield improbably led the Rams to a win in his first game in L.A., a 17-16 comeback over the Las Vegas Raiders, but since then, the shine has mostly worn off. He struggled Sunday in the overtime defeat to the Seahawks, completing 50% of 26 pass attempts for 147 yards while taking five sacks. His interception in overtime led to the Seahawks’ game-winning field goal. Mayfield had an open Van Jefferson on the play but underthrew the ball to the inside of the field, allowing safety Quandre Diggs to pick it off.”

Sound familiar? Throwing a pick to lose a playoff game? That’s why the Rams said bye-bye.

  55. Marky Mark Says:

The seattle game was not the playoffs. Sacks are the lines fault. He destroyed tHe opposition on the last Christmas game.

  56. Gene Says:

Lol@ this site. Every QB throws picks…its why DBs have stats for how many they caught. The BUCS win against Detroit, all else being equal, if OUR DB would’ve caught a ball from Goff that hit his freaking hands!
    1. T.L. throws more picks than most QBs
    2. Baker threw less than most last year.
3 Bakers playoff production was better than most QBs last year. (And in Cleveland)
    4. Id take Baker over Dak, Lawrence, Lamar any day in the playoffs.
    5. Id take Baker, Mahombs, Love, Allen any day because of how they play in the playoffs…they give you a chance to win.
6 If the same standards were applied to other Bucs it would look like this:

Mike Evans dropped a dime of a pass from Baker against Detroit on the three yard line, hes middle of the pack.
Mike Evans tipped a pass from Baker on the first possession against the Lions right to the defense, we should get someone better.
The lions DBs made plays fo interceptions twice when given the chance…we need better DBs because ours cant catch what hits them in the hands.
Cade Otten didnt even attempt to make a play on that last pass, we need better play there.
The Bucs defense evaporated for a quarter of the game against the Lions, we should start over on defense.

You see, all of the winners and negative Nellies will always find something to complain about. The truth is that Brady retired, the Bucs got Mayfield, the winners cried, and the Bucs went right to the divisional round why the crybabies were crying, worrying, and complaining. The ” o this and that guy aren’t good enough” crowd had a crappy season b*tching, while the rest of us enjoyed the season. Here they still are QQing from their recliner while the real pirates are sharpening their blades fir another round of action.
    Go BUCS! 🏈

  57. Dude Says:

“He struggled Sunday in the overtime defeat to the Seahawks, completing 50% of 26 pass attempts for 147 yards while taking five sacks.”

He’s got > 30 games in his career where he didn’t throw for > 200 yards and took at least 3 sack.

    “Sacks are the lines fault.”

    @MArky Mark

not with Baker, that tendency to drift in the pocket or the happy feet tend to make his protection worse than it actually is because Mayfield moves like a plinko chip

  58. Gene Says:

    Screw you auto correct…they’re WHINERS!:

a person who makes frequent complaints usually about little things

  59. Noo Joisy Boy Says:

Marky Mark Says: “The Seattle game was not the playoffs.”

True. So is his 10.2 QBR for that game.

  60. Beeej Says:

Rams only would have wanted Baker as a backup, which he wasn’t ready to settle for in any case

  61. Oneilbuc Says:

Gene. I get your a Baker fan and all but Lamar is waay better than Baker and plus Lamar played in the AFC championship which Baker has never done. And Baker threw a pick on the last drive last year against the lions. I don’t understand why you Baker fans have to lie for Baker play on the field. Lamar Jackson is a 2 time MVP and Baker has never even been a MVP candidate. Dak is better than Baker also and the same running game excuses y’all for Baker Dak is in the same position now. Baker also played on some good teams in Cleveland and he still couldn’t carry the offense. Baker haven’t put 2 good season together yet and he’s better than Lamar Jackson and Dak now ? Man come on man the bucs coaches and front office can’t even say that Baker was better than Trask last training camp and now Baker is better than Lamar Jackson now man I mean you can’t make this up lol 🤣🤣!! Baltimore is a super bowl contender and at this point we have to hope that our division is bad again just to make the playoffs. And that’s just being real about the bucs at this time of the year. We had a 9-8 season last year with Baker at quarterback and all of it wasn’t his fault but he had a hand in it as well. Look you might just be rooting for the bucs because you’re a Baker fan and if you are a real bucs fan it’s ok to tell the truth about the bucs rather it’s good or bad . You can still be a bucs fan without putting on blinders for the team.

“Mayfield is a better player than Lawrence”

    LOL!

    No, he’s not.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Baker’s first 3 years with the lowly Browns were better by most statistical measures than Lawrence 1st 3 years. Rod Munch will relentlessly continue to run down Baker. He has to support an ego that has been consistently wrong about Mayfield. With the fantastic year that Baker will have in 2024, I make a motion that Rod Munch be voted off this blog. The voting can begin at the end of the 2024 regular season. Will rely on Joe to take a poll the day after Christmas in 2024.

  63. Bake n Your Face Says:

Bake is happy play to win and spare his team cap money for them to pay for quality players for team success. The results on the field is what Mayfield has always been about since he was a frosh in High School then when we had him at Oklahoma.
He’s happy being a great deal for his Bucs and their fandom.😎

  64. Rod Munch Says:

Gipper – If Baker was better, he wouldn’t be on his 4th team already, and would have gotten more than a 2-year deal coming off a career season.

BTW, that career season still put him behind Lawrence in QBR.

Speaking of which, each of the last two seasons Lawrence had a better QBR than Baker had last year.

But money talks, and says everything. Other teams could have got Baker if they wanted him – and they didn’t want him.

Hopefully he can make them all look stupid, and I honestly hope he does since the Bucs are stuck with him for this year and probably next year. However, if you’re not talking contracts, but just the player – which is what Joe was talking about, there isn’t a team in the NFL that is taking Baker over Lawrence. Not one.

  65. jack r Says:

Bucben61 Says: “the Rams wanted him back”

LMAO especially after that game-losing pick right? LOLOL

  66. Dave Pear Says:

Osqueeltard is super ignorant but at least she can’t right anything other than 3400 word drones that would put a meth addict to sleep. Obviously has overdosed on imbecillin.

  67. Gipper Says:

    RodMunch,
Tampa Bay today would not trade Baker even up for Lawrence. Baker is on his 4th team because of the complete ineptitude of Browns management who guaranteed $235 Mill for 5 years for a predator that Baker will again upstage with Tampa in 2024. Not going to go over the same old ground with you that Baker played the entire 2021 season with a torn labrum in his shoulder. His reward for that incredible effort was to be sent to the only franchise more inept than the Browns. At mid season 2022 Baker went on to rally a beaten up LA Rams who absolutely loved the guy. Because Rams had earlier signed Matt Stafford to a mega contract, Baker wanted out. Most feel Tampa was lucky to get him. You don’t, but Jason Licht does. By the way QBR is not the best metric in evaluating a QB. If it were, by Mitchell Trubinsky in 2018 was destined for NFL stardom. But even conceding your point, the GOAT Brady in 2020 and Mayfield had identical QBR’s in Tampa Bay SuperBowl year. Looking forward to the blog poll at the end of 2024. Your farewell post will be, “ Yeah, but Baker can’t……..”

  68. Marky Mark Says:

Jaguarz are a small market and want a celebrity QB to get team sponsorships. They are not paying Lawrence to play Football but rather to be a pretty boy celebrity.

  69. Marky Mark Says:

If you have already made up your mind you can always find an isolated fact to support your pre determination. I can cancel it with myniwn fact.

Baker Mayfield threw two touchdown passes to Tyler Higbee, Cam Akers rushed for 118 yards and a career-high three TDs and the Rams routed the Denver Broncos 51-14 for their second victory since mid-October.

Mayfield went 24 of 28 for 230 yards in another standout performance for his second win in three starts with the Rams (5-10), who produced the best game of their dismal season on Christmas.

“That’s what you work toward,” Rams coach Sean McVay said. “To see it come to life on a night like this, you’re really happy for them. They deserve that.”

The preponderance of facts is Baker had a great season in 2023. K am hopeful for 2024 but the complexity of Coen,s system worrys me.

  71. Davyboy Says:

Actually munch the “NFL Quarterback Index” ranks Baker #11 and Lawrence #15. Let’s try and keep things straight.

  72. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

BAs red pen please if there’s an occult it has to be the fanbois of Baker who always bring up Trask’s name even when he’s not part of the convo. Who love a 5th year qb with 80 games under his belt who was forced to play for the Bucs because he was on the trash heap, and had no other choice but barely “beat” out a dude who never started a game. You love a guy who’s never put back to back good seasons together yet hail his decent middle of the pack statistical years as something that proves his greatness. You guys try so hard to convince everybody of his greatness and make personal attacks against those who don’t see it.

The occult of the Fanbois is insufferable and unreasonable like a group of middle school cheer leaders who wear rose colored glasses for Mayfield. What you all gonna do with your lives when your teen idol is no longer playing???

I love my Bucs and only root or care about them but never wear rose colored glasses, I cheer them on but not hanging on to the teat like all you fanbois do with Mayfield.

I can’t sit quietly after reading about how great Lamar Jackson is! Are you kidding me! Have you actually looked at his pitiful career passing numbers? He is a running back who throws the ball. He can not sit in the pocket, read the defense, and go through progressions. He scrambles around like backyard football hoping someone gets open or runs with it. That style has never won a Superbowl. He chokes every year in the playoffs (when he is not hurt). There is no way he should have been MVP over Christian McCaffrey last year.

  74. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Wow gipper you fanbois all point out that the Bucs didn’t go with Trask because they “saw” what they needed to see in practice but yet the Brown’s couldn’t see what they saw in practice and in games and they were supposed to go with status quo because you fanbois love him so much and traded him??? Hypocrite much? You fanbois definitely live in an alternate universe like Marvel and DC with you fanbois living in the DC universe.

  75. Gipper Says:

    DavidBigBucsFan 99,

You really aren’t worth the time. Glad you have mastered a new made up word—-fanbois. Guess that makess GM Licht also one. Read your remarks twice but they are so disjointed I just gave up. Didn’t say a word about Trask now or any other time. Don’t put your confused words in my mouth.

  76. Oz Len Says:

Mike S. and Rod Munch, finally, both back cheeks in the same story! It’s starting to feel like football!

  77. Rod Munch Says:

Gipper – If anyone thought Baker was better, he would have gotten that huge multi-year deal, instead of the 2-year deal the Bucs gave him.

    Money talks. Period.

Also, yes, the Bucs in a second would trade Baker for Lawrence. As would every other team in the NFL – if you’re not talking contract. If you account for contract it’s possible some teams think both will bust, in which case they’d take the cheaper deal. So there’s you W fanboi, it’s the only one you get.

  78. Gipper Says:

    RodMunch,
Just more of your usual drivel. If “money talks” ,then apparently Daniel Jones is an elite QB? We will as usual have our answers on the playing field. Mayfield will, again, outplay Lawrence in 2024. I will be reminding you every other week how Baker is fairing against your new football hero, Trevor. Amused that you know more about Baker than Jason Licht, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and a host of past and present Bucs.

  79. Rod Munch Says:

Gipper – Stupid, Jones = Baker, a team that had a mediocre QB in a career year and the team is scared to lose them so they overpay. It showed how a team will overvalue its own talent while other teams say, ‘hard pass’.

Wow, talk about not understanding how examples work. LOL!

  80. Gipper Says:

    RodMunch,

I know how examples work. You for example are as confused in your analysis of Mayfield as OneillBuc and DavidBigBucFan99. You three are a triumvirate that deserve each other.

    Replying to.Oneilbuc:
Your assumption that Im a Baker fan is right…Im also a fan of Brady, Mahombs, Bradshaw, Aikman, Montana and every other QB that plays great in the playoffs. Lamar and Dak suck in the playoffs…keep betting them! 😆They have had so much talent and done nothing with it that its just stupid…they sh*t themselves in the playoffs. Mayfield with the injuries and all the coaching and OC changes has done better in the playoffs. Go learn something. Here’s a start for you:

Lamar Jackson has a passer rating of 75.7 with 1,324 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 6 games in the playoffs in his career.(Per statmuse)

Mayfield’s final passer rating for the 2023 playoffs is 106.3, based on a 62.3% completion rate, 8.9 yards per attempt and 6-2 TD-INT ratio. That’s the highest passer rating by any quarterback with at least 25 attempts in Bucs postseason history

Highest Career Postseason Passer Rating, Active NFL Quarterbacks (min. 3 games)
    Quarterback Team(s) Rating
    Patrick Mahomes Chiefs 106.7
    Matthew Stafford Lions/Rams 101.7
    Brock Purdy 49ers 101.0
    Baker Mayfield Browns/Buccaneers 100.4
    Aaron Rodgers Packers 100.1
