Randy Gregory Shenanigans — Day 2
June 12th, 2024So today Todd Bowles wouldn’t say whether he has spoken to newly-signed free agent pass rusher Randy Gregory about his absences through two days of mandatory minicamp.
As far as signs go, that’s about as troubling as it gets.
Bowles did say about Gregory that “we’ll deal with it as it goes on.”
Considering multiple Bucs players are at mandatory minicamp but not actually taking the field, Gregory’s no-show looks even worse. If he didn’t want to work out, all he had to do was attend and claim his hamstrings were tight.
Joe wonders if at 31 years old with a career largely full of empty promise and assorted addiction issues, Gregory is considering retirement. If true, that could be a stroke of luck for the Bucs.
June 12th, 2024 at 1:08 pm
It’s not that troubling. He was signed to the vet minimum. There was only a slim chance he’d make the team anyway. Nothing invested, nothing lost.
He was signed to a lot more than the vet minimum. –Joe
June 12th, 2024 at 1:10 pm
The Bucs should make the retirement decision for him.
June 12th, 2024 at 1:14 pm
@ realistic….. True, but should definitely cut him now. Guy obviously doesn’t care and that’s not a good “sign”, so to speak
June 12th, 2024 at 1:41 pm
It’s a $3 million deal with only about half that guaranteed. Not going to break us if he flames out.
June 12th, 2024 at 1:51 pm
Agreed, DR. Drop his a$$. We don’t need any distractions
June 12th, 2024 at 1:54 pm
Thanks for the correction. I swear I read it was vet minimum. Still pretty close. Only 2.97 mil, and half of that is a roster bonus. If he doesn’t make the roster he only costs 1.3 mil. Still feels like a non-issue to me.
June 12th, 2024 at 2:06 pm
Dump him. He is not worth the trouble. 👿
June 12th, 2024 at 2:08 pm
Heard that he is suing the NFL at present and is likely the reason for his absence. Rumor is that he is trying to recoup compensation for missed games to marijuana suspensions that now wouldn’t happen. That is likely why he is away from the team.
June 12th, 2024 at 2:11 pm
He’s the weakest link.. Good bye
June 12th, 2024 at 2:12 pm
No way this guy makes it. Such a distraction.
Only Dave Pear thinks he is a good guy.
Tells you all you need to know.
June 12th, 2024 at 2:14 pm
Watts and Ramirez probably hooked him up as soon as he got there.
1 down.
Smart.
June 12th, 2024 at 2:34 pm
This seems like it was predictable. Bucs screwed up by giving him any amount of signing bonus.
June 12th, 2024 at 2:45 pm
@Billy,
I can hear it now:
RG to Watts/Ramirez: “Hey man, know anybody holding?”
Watts/Ramirez, in unison: “We know a guy.”
June 12th, 2024 at 2:54 pm
I say we all flood Jason Lichts Twitter with “SACK GREGORY!”
June 12th, 2024 at 2:55 pm
1.5 mill up in smoke?
June 12th, 2024 at 2:58 pm
Jason Licht is a top 5 GM in my opinion. No one can bat 1.000. He also brings in high character guys, for the most part. Except for Antonio Brown, who may very well be the devil himself. In any case, this is an absolute swing and a miss. Bad pickup. Trying to get cute and bargain bin shop but this is a classic case of outsmarting yourself. Acknowledge mistake now and cut bait before he becomes a real distraction
June 12th, 2024 at 3:00 pm
He’s probably not showing up because he knows you can’t fail a drug test if you are not present for one. Pathetic.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:03 pm
D.R.
“The Bucs should make the retirement decision for him.”
Agree completely and I suspect they have but are concerned about the NFLPA and his existing lawsuit against the Broncos/NFL.
Perhaps they’re just waiting on word from the lawyers on just how to handle it.
I don’t know what kind of contract he has. Can’t imagine there’s “guaranteed” money in it but who knows. Whatever I think Gregory is done in Tampa and probably the NFL.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:08 pm
Cutting RG might be more of a hit on the salary cap than if he retires. The Bucs should fine him as much as possible under the terms of the CBA. This might force him to make a decision to retire. The team could waive the fine as an extra incentive to show himself the door.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:25 pm
Randy Gregory will not be allowed to dominate the locker room or the team psychology. If he is a problem…he will be cut. So, stop all the panic talk.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:25 pm
Lots of red flags in aging declining vets who no longer have a passion for football and are only in it for the $…..
Hopefully Sterling Sheppard doesnt follow the path Gregory seems to be on whos more focus on his NFL lawsuit than he is the Bucs.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:31 pm
Notorious drug user Aaron Rodgers is also not at mandatory camp so there is that …
June 12th, 2024 at 3:35 pm
As far as I’m concerned Randy Gregory isn’t a buc.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:39 pm
It appears this may..have some serious mental issues. Shades of that wide receiver we had who clowned on the playing field, took his shirt off and ran out of the stadium. Might be best to drop this guy now.
June 12th, 2024 at 3:48 pm
Gee Joe,first you complain about needing a pass rusher,
Then Jason goes and signs us a top notch Pass rusher( he used to be a Cowboy!),
And you’re still complaining!
Cant make Some guys Happy!
Lol
June 12th, 2024 at 3:50 pm
they need to promise him some sticky-icky if he shows up.
he’ll be there!
June 12th, 2024 at 4:45 pm
Meathead.
June 12th, 2024 at 4:46 pm
Never was gonna make the team. hence the salary
June 12th, 2024 at 4:50 pm
Perhaps Joe gets up and runs for another beer when the Ads promoting and bring attention to Mental Health are paid for by the NFL and run during games. Perhaps Joe overlooks articles with headings like “Former NFL and Colorado star wide receiver Charles E. Johnson died by suicide” on his way to see what edge Rushers are going to hit free agency.
Go ahead and brow beat him and allow all your cronies to pile on.
Some Men don’t want to ask for Help. They cope any way they can and hold it in. Many suffer in silence. Sometimes one will snap, kill 5 and then turn the gun on themselves. If Gregory has emotional / mental issues smoking weed is the least of his troubles.
Bowles and Licht brought him in and he’s here on their watch. If they have not heard from him then someone should be at his door just to ask if he is alright.
Whatever the reason is he has accepted the fact he lost 50K for two missed days. If he surfaces and has been being council for emotional problems will the NFL have bought millions worth of Super Bowl Ad time to promote Mental Health and turn around and fine a guy suffering from it? only other question would anyone feel a little ashamed for talking Sh*t?
Maybe sticking to Football is all they can comprehend and are just ignorant of things that are real important.
June 12th, 2024 at 4:50 pm
Great notes Joe! I’m not sure if the comparison of McMillan with Bell and Streeter is valid as they were 5th and 6th round picks, respectively. Those late round picks are lucky to make the roster and are usually back ups or practice squad players. I understand your reservation, although. Let’s cross our fingers that he is as good as advertised.
June 12th, 2024 at 4:53 pm
He has to wait until his system is clean. Don’t want to walk into a piss test dirty.
June 12th, 2024 at 4:58 pm
Aaron Rodgers pulled the same stunt with the Jets yesterday and today. But says he will be back tomorrow.
June 12th, 2024 at 6:15 pm
To be totally fair…a lot of veterans skip some early stuff. We don’t really know what the situation is.
Also…he’s likely to get himself suspended, and won’t cost us anything because of a clause.
June 12th, 2024 at 6:46 pm
Fan of the South
That took some cojones. I AGREE with you but compassion can be in short supply on a football blog. You are correct however.
But if Gregory truly has “mental issues” or demons the Bucs can support him without allowing him to infect the locker room. AB clearly needed(s) treatment but everybody was more concerned about his talent and winning than a truly messed up human being. You’re correct mental illness is frequently viewed as a “weakness” instead of an illness. Whatever Randy needs to get help outside of the Buc’s locker room.
June 12th, 2024 at 7:33 pm
This was a zero risk move by Jason and Todd.
Dude probably took one at Todd’s chaos theory defensive playbook and said, “naa I got >$100milliom, I’ll just sue the league and work on that . Easier.”
Cut him, but you maroons that are all up your skirts about Jason’s bad signing, lay the eff off. Bucs lost nothing . Zero. Zippo.
June 12th, 2024 at 8:27 pm
We don’t need a bad apple in the locker room. I would like to see him on the team however negative influences on others are not welcomed.
June 12th, 2024 at 9:23 pm
Why are we still talking about this guy. C’mon Jason, cut him loose.
June 12th, 2024 at 10:14 pm
Yesterday was strike one
Today was strike two
If he doesn’t show up tomorrow, that’s strike three
June 12th, 2024 at 10:35 pm
What a waste of talent.
Where do I sign up for the $1.5 million for doing absolutely nothing but taking a physical?
June 12th, 2024 at 11:42 pm
His deal is prorated and his fines could be $300k.
He’s not taking any money away from this.
He signed wit the Bucs just so he had a platform from which to launch his lawsuit. Dude probably never intended to play – and then when he saw how hard the work would be he just disappeared.
No worries.
June 12th, 2024 at 11:49 pm
Fan of the South,
Awww, are worried that we hurt lil Randys feelings?
Well, of course you Are!
Randy has every resource out there available to him.
Hes weak, and makes bad choices despite having dozens of proffesionals at his disposal.
I dont feel bad for Randy(well, meybe a little). I feel bad for all the average people out there sufferring with little or no help available.
My comments are based on Randys long history and lack of another explanation.
Please disregard if it found that Randy has has a Family emergncy, or a legit reason for not being here.
That being the case- the Bucs should make it known that they are in contact with Randy.
Because of his history

Marijuana is a safer pain-killer than ANY pill that they have been putting in their players bodies for the past 50 years.
Geno Hayes died at 33 because of artificial, chemical pain killers!
Chemical, laboratory created pain killers create kidney problems and major addiction problems!
Cannabis has been proven to be amazing concussion medicine.
Cannabis is a proven pain killer.
Cannabis a proven anti-inflammatory.
Cannabis is a proven ant-carcinogen.
Cannabis doesn’t kill 1 brain cell. Alcohol kills a lot.
Cannabis has been considered herbal medicine by the Koreans, Chinese, Thai, Indians, Cambodians and Japanese for thousands of years!
Stop thinking an ignorant American stuck in the American bubble.
Don’t be a “American-centric” or “euro-centric” thinker.
Be a logical thinker!
June 13th, 2024 at 8:14 am
Found the pothead.
Cannabis is linked to schizophrenia. So that probably explains Gregory.

Teacherman.,
“Ignorant Americans”?
Then they cant be too Bright
I think we’ve beaten most of them in a war, or forcibly sert u miitarybaes in their Countries.
Meybe they were all stoned?
June 13th, 2024 at 6:09 pm
Surely Jason was aware of this sort of issue before the signing. He has a long history that is widely known. I can’t believe we are not protected in the contract.
June 13th, 2024 at 10:02 pm
BillyBuscight – find me a post where I said Gregory was a good guy.
You can’t because you’re drunk in the world’s worst beer.
I said he was a no risk signing. Have another BuschLight and get into your pickup truck.
