Sterling Shepard Signed By The Bucs
June 6th, 2024Joe has had his eye on veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard for a long time. Just check Joe’s free archives for evidence.
Today, Shepard, 31, became a Bucs wide receiver. That’s the word from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Even better, Shepard was one of Baker Mayfield’s top targets in 2015 with Oklahoma.
Shepard was a really solid No. 2 receiver for the Giants playing second fiddle to Odell Beckham.
In seems in recent years with Daniel Jones at quarterback for the Giants, Shepard’s numbers have gone south for the former second-round pick of the Giants in 2016.
Joe thinks this is an excellent buy-low signing. And Joe is pretty positive Shepard will bring as much production as a receiver as Deven Thompkins did.

Good signing!
June 6th, 2024 at 12:02 pm
He’s a solid 4th receiver veteran replacement for the guy that went to Carolina with Canales.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:04 pm
Wow, that is fantastic news! Baker and Shepard – Together Again!
June 6th, 2024 at 12:05 pm
I’ve always liked this guy. Versatile, also. If the injury bug hits he could see more snaps, or outduel Palmer and the Rook for number 3.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:06 pm
Great news!!!
June 6th, 2024 at 12:08 pm
Wow we have crazy good competition now for the 3-5 spots.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:11 pm
WR3/4 don’t matter, he’ll rotate with everybody else in the room given the look and be an additional vet presence for our young guys to learn from. Great pickup, just don’t wait to play him like we did Dave Moore.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:11 pm
Better than Thompkins! Another slot WR though? Isn’t that where Godwin will be? And what about McMillan? Pundits seem to think he’s a slot.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:16 pm
joe called it. you didn’t happen to have some inside info did u?
June 6th, 2024 at 12:23 pm
POWER RANKINGS!!!!
In the eyes of the national media, this move should take the Bucs from #22 to #22. Unless Carolina signs Mitch Trubiski. Then, #23.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:32 pm
Nice! It’ll be interesting to see if the Bucs keep 6 or 7 receivers on the 53 this year.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:37 pm
Hopefully, he has something left in the tank. The Achilles ‘21 followed by ACL ‘22 had to be tough. Not counting on him but Wish him the best.
June 6th, 2024 at 12:43 pm
Wowwwww, great signing if Shepard still has has in the tank……
If he does, he’ll be perfect to add to the receiving room.
Ok, another site said that Bucs also added Cody Thompson, WR from Seattle, as well??
Going to be a ton of competition for the 3-6 WR’s
June 6th, 2024 at 12:56 pm
Solid move, low risk, and a nice connection with Bake. Kudos, yet again, for the savvy & shrewd Licht
June 6th, 2024 at 12:57 pm
Coen must not have had a good vibe on the current 4-6 wrs during OTAs.
June 6th, 2024 at 1:10 pm
We’ve got 13 players in the WR room on the 90 man roster
June 6th, 2024 at 1:28 pm
Always like him. Stay healthy!!
June 6th, 2024 at 1:29 pm
We’ll take all the depth we can get at WR!
June 6th, 2024 at 1:45 pm
Hopefully he can make a comeback production wise after being hampered by serious injuries 2 years in a row.
Like what the Bucs did bringing in both Thompson & Shepard
June 6th, 2024 at 2:04 pm
Com on man, we just wasted time n money on the injury bug with Russell Gage. I like Sterling, but he can never stay healthy.
June 6th, 2024 at 2:08 pm
Devin Thompkins release makes sense now. Seems he has some alleged personal life issues that are not a good look.
June 6th, 2024 at 2:09 pm
I look at this signing like I did the Randy Gregory one. If they produce, fine. If not, the roster spot goes to someone younger. No sense in keeping another Kyle Rudolph on the roster.
June 6th, 2024 at 2:13 pm
Can he return kickoffs or punts? Does he have special teams value? Does he have a special connection with Baker?
Hope there was no cap hit. Good for depth in preseason I guess….
June 6th, 2024 at 2:17 pm
Worry about paying your line man lol
June 6th, 2024 at 2:29 pm
Evans
Godwin
Palmer
Macmillan
Shepard
Jarrett
There is your 6 if they keep 6, otherwise Jarrett is out.
June 6th, 2024 at 2:32 pm
dmatt :
almost nothing really invested in Shepard, unlike Gage (something like 30mil?)
Joe in Michigan :
exactly
June 6th, 2024 at 2:34 pm
“No sense in keeping another Kyle Rudolph on the roster.”
Or Julio Jones for that matter
June 6th, 2024 at 3:25 pm
Does he play special teams?
June 6th, 2024 at 4:42 pm
No risk here. If it works, great. If not, oh well.
June 6th, 2024 at 5:40 pm
Lots of weapons, Mike may not get as many touches this year so he better catch them when it hits him in his hands.
June 6th, 2024 at 6:24 pm
I’m fine with this, so long as he earns a final roster spot.
Our best WR veterans are getting older, increasing the chances for injury. Having someone who might do very well is a good thing.
Worse comes to worse, we can stash him.
June 6th, 2024 at 7:38 pm
Great veteran signing…that last season at Oklahoma with Baker was something…shame they couldn’t have hooked up “sooner”…no phn intended
June 6th, 2024 at 8:32 pm
Good competition for Palmer and the rookie from Washington. It tells me Jarrett isn’t blowing away the coaches and front office this offseason.
June 6th, 2024 at 8:36 pm
Almost all of you are putting a little too much value in who Sterling Shepard is as a football player now.
Joe left out these details – He’s suffered season ending Achilles, and then ACL injuries along with a host of other issues in the last few years. If Shepard has anything left in the tank it will be more of a surprise than an expectation. He’s a good guy and was a good player before the injuries. But the odds are against him contributing much as a Buccaneer.
June 6th, 2024 at 11:24 pm
Really smart signing. We needed another good vet in the WR room.
Baker is happy today
June 6th, 2024 at 11:28 pm
Very solid receiver and even better dude. Hope he stays healthy. (He’s also not a guy that goes on IR for turf toe. If he’s injured, it’s a very sad and legit injury.) Great signing!
June 7th, 2024 at 2:26 am
This is a win win.
Quality veteran depth.
Can he catch punts?
Go Bucs!
June 7th, 2024 at 8:31 am
This is another Juilo Jones type of singing and I wasn’t hype by Julio Jones and I’m not hype about this singing either. We have to stop getting excited about these players that’s over 30 and they haven’t done anything the past 2 years. People like this singing because he’s a known player in the NFL not because he’s good.
June 7th, 2024 at 9:01 am
Great signing if the dude could stay on the field. Seems like the Bucs are hell-bent on signing a veteran WR every season that will spend most of the year on IR.
June 7th, 2024 at 4:26 pm
Sigh, Here we go again signing another veteran wide receiver that will end up being on IR.
June 7th, 2024 at 6:27 pm
Osqueeltard- every time you complain about a move the best GM in Bucs history makes, the fluid leaking from your brain oozes out of your posts. Just stop. Jason has a Lombardi and three consecutive division titles. You have…….a crusty poster of JaMiss Winston on the ceiling above your bed.
Stop.
June 8th, 2024 at 2:27 am
good teams make good moves…
and this is a good move…
he will compete for spots 3 thru 5, but will most likely be a 4th or 5th…
he is replacing our vet david moore who came on strong as the 2023 season progressed…
and he should also be a solid vet in the room around mcmillan, palmer and jarrett…
i like this group…
(also he can potentially leapfrog the young guys if there’s a major injury to #1 or #2 – and the young guys aren’t getting it done)
June 8th, 2024 at 7:55 am
A quality receiver in the cheap. LFG!
