BSPN Has Grim Forecast For Bucs In 2024

June 16th, 2024

Four-letter not impressed.

If Joe didn’t know any better, it seems BSPN’s computers hacked into Warren Sharp’s laptop.

Sharp, who runs “Sharp Football Analysis,” had one of his elves, Raymond Summerlin, do post-draft power rankings. Every team that advanced to the NFL’s division round last year is ranked in Summerlin’s top-10 with the exception of one.

The Bucs.

Summerlin has the Bucs ranked No. 23.

Well, BSPN recently came out with their computer projections for the upcoming season. And like Summerlin with Sharp Football Analysis, BSPN has every team that advanced to the division round in the playoffs last year ranked in the top-10.

Well, except for the Bucs which BSPN’s computers have ranked No. 22.

Yeah, you and Joe can just figure out why: Very likely Baker Mayfield.

So despite the Bucs being ranked by BSPN at the end of last season No. 14 and making the playoffs for the fourth straight season and winning the NFC South three years in a row, it seems the geek software programmers believe the Bucs flogging the Eagles in the wild card round and scaring the hell out of the Lions on the road in the playoffs were total flukes.

Joe does not know how a team brings damn near everyone back from a veteran roster that was “this close” to going to the NFC title game and then people believe they are in the bottom third of the league.

BSPN’s projection gives the Bucs a 33 percent shot of making the playoffs and a 22 percent chance of winning the division.

The Dixie Chicks, with either a broken-down choker at quarterback or a rookie, is ESPN’s No. 15 team and has a 57 percent chance of winning the division.

Joe really would like to know how many of the self-appointed NFL sophists, who for years mocked Kirk Cousins as a gag artist, are now hailing the 36-year old coming off a blown Achilles as the next Roger Staubach since he’s with Atlanta.

For years Cousins was a punching bag for the smartypants crowd for his postseason futility and a poor primetime record. He goes to Atlanta and all of a sudden people act like he’s Tom Brady going to the Bucs. Please!

Always remember and never forget, computer programs are GIGO. Garbage-in; garbage-out. If a program is written with flawed information, it will produce flawed results.

    Atlanta can’t even work a draft…

  2. Fred McNeil Says:

By the time we play the Falcons in week five all the MARTA riders will be clamoring for Penix.

  3. Bucben61 Says:

Espn is nothing more than a woke joke….moving on

  4. HC Grover Says:

Sounds about right to me. The season and the games will tell. Bucs will be right in the middle of the road. A game or 2 either way will be a big diff.

  5. HC Grover Says:

The numbers are odd. A better chance at wild card than outright winnin the division seems off. I doubt any wild card from NFC South.

  6. Jeffs grandpa Says:

All these rankings don’t matter just play the game

  7. Bucben61 Says:

Pencil necked geeks who were on the chess club decide the narrative…very little if any real reporting goes on. Rashee Rice can turn a public freeway into his personal playground and simply walk away when thinks go bad.. You try that. If the turds at ESPN would spend a fraction of the time on that story as they do on why the bucs will suck we will be getting somewhere.

  8. Todd Rolls Says:

    Thank god what they think
Don’t matter! We are the best team in the division.

  9. Dave Pear Says:

    The concerns would be

    – They don’t like Baker. We do.

    – Pass rush. Fair criticism

    – Interior OL. Bucs made changes and drafted to fix it. Nothing demonstrated yet.

    – Worst running game for two straight years when the head coach wants to run first.

    – A head coach with a losing record for two franchises. That is a fact.

But these things were all true last year and the Bucs still won the division and won a playoff game.

So, as has been said about the pencil neck brigade…..

    Tards gonna tard.

Todd is evolving and we should expect improvement. LFG.

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

Dave Pear: Bowles is .500 with the Bucs in the regular season, 2 playoff appearances with a 1-2 record. If you look up any coach, the official stats have the regular season record separate from their playoff record. So no, you’re not being factual about it.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Dave Pear … ‘Todd is evolving and we should expect improvement.’

Be still my heart. Dave is evolving too.

  12. ModHairKen Says:

    Who cares.

  13. Please Says:

My guess is the schedule is a BIG play here -if teams are similar to what they were last year, the Bucs’ is brutal. And HC Grover is spot on… One or two wins/losses will make or break the season.

  14. Joe in Michigan Says:

Also, if the Buccaneers actually GAF about Bowles head coaching stint with the Jets, they wouldn’t have hired him as HC. Right?

  15. Cobraboy Says:

I love being under the radar. 😎

  16. WestChap Says:

Everyone should relax on Bowles. While he’s far from perfect, HC is not a weakness for Bucs in NFC South where 3 (yes, 3) teams have HCs with losing records as HC for 2 teams. And the 4th is a rookie HC who we know well.

I’ll take Bowles with Coen as OC any day over Allen, Morris and Canales.

  17. heyjude Says:

BSPN are going to be eating their words when the Bucs are going strong. BSPN and others keep pushing for Cousins. I don’t get it. He is definitely not Brady. Penix is probably going to be on the field playing by mid-season.

I have been a Bucs fan since 1988 – I remember the 1997 turnaround year and the joy it gave to Tampa Bay – but let’s be honest – 2021 was a great year and the Bucs went 13-4 but why is everyone so excited about going 8-9 and then 9-8 ? we face Ravens, 49ers, Lions, Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, Cowboys – maybe we beat some of those teams and maybe we sweep Falcons, Saints, Panthers – maybe – the national media looks at our head coach, our QB, our run game, weak spots in the defense – how can they be blamed for not drinking the Kool-Aid ? Go Bucs

    LOLOL I’ve noticed it too!

And perhaps for that reason I pretty much agreed with everything Dave Pear said. Though I’d consider Bowles a .500 coach after going 8-9 and then 9-8. Post season is what it is, only a couple teams each season come out above .500 in post season play.

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

    Or,
Meybe its 2 straight years with worst run game in the NFL
or worst Pass defense in the league.

Still starting another teams backup at Guard. Still starting a rookie on Oline.
Mauch was HORRIBLE last year. Yes, he was a rookie- but no proof hes improved.

Still havent signed a pass rusher.
No team that starts JTS and Logan Hall should be predicted to win.
    Ever.
And When Randy Gregory is who your team signs, as a pas rush specialist,
We should just be glad they still consider us an NFL Team.
With JTS, Hall, and Gregory, that in no way resembles an NFL line

  24. MadMax Says:

“The Eagles game was a fluke”

hahaha, hahahahaha…. i saw that mess from a mile away…and now theyre gonna be an even bigger mess with our scraps that we tossed them. I cant wait to see all of this play out lol.

bet the under on the eagles and ravens and the over on the Bucs total wins

    ________________________________________________________________
The national media can look at those things from LAST season. They have NO idea what the Bucs offense will look like this season under a new OC and with some new personnel. Our O-line will clearly be better and that will help the entire offense.

Despite losing Carlton Davis our defense should take a significant step forward. Many rookies contributed last season and should take a big step forward now in their second year including Kancey, Diaby, Watts, and others. Those three with the addition of Braswell should be able to get more pressure on the QB which will help an upgraded secondary. Allowing Zyon to settle in at CB and adding Whitehead and Tykee Smith will more than offset the loss of Davis.

  26. Ryan Smith Says:

Believe the key for the offense will be the O-line, on defense same as always sacks and takeaways. Would love to get consistent pressure/sacks with the front 4 but if not the Buccaneers drafted enough players that can come of the edge or a delayed blitz .

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

In the end, it doesn’t matter what the media predicts. It matters what the players and coaches do.

This stuff used to tick me off. These days I know it’s up to the team to prove them wrong.

    ——————————————————————–

@Capt Tim, You may wish to reevaluate the Bucs team from 2023 because our red zone defense was #3 in the NFL, and our scoring defense was tied for #6 in the NFL.

The last time I checked, the purpose of a defense is to stop your opponent from scoring points!

  29. Booger Says:

Now that’s just ridiculous. They could very easily finish there, but to say they are the 23rd Ranked Team heading into this season is a total JOKE. A team with plenty of returning TALENT with character, leadership, a Super Bowl WINNING pedigree, and who are THE current 3X reigning Division CHAMPIONS, with at least 4-DUDES on a HOF trajectory. PLEASE. Even more pathetically insane is having ATL with an entirely brand new coaching staff, including the HC, and potentially, having a ‘rookie’ starting at QB for the first few games, due to their ‘brand new’ 36 year old QB coming fresh off an Achilles TEAR/surgery. Shouldn’t you have to ‘see-it’ first… Wouldn’t you want to… Ya know, before just anointing THEM right of the bat like that!? Look, I get it… The Bucs definitely, are not perfect by any stretch, especially if you actually WATCHED THEM last season… And the Playoffs Game vs the dwindling Eagles probably was a “fluke.” But there is absolutely NO way, that ATL should ever be considered that ‘heavily’ of a favorite to win the Division, much less being ranked as a Top-15 TEAM in the league. Period. I would get-it, if it were close, but 15 versus 23 is a freakin’ joke. PLEASE. I just hope we can stay healthy, and then expose all of them as the complete total FOOLS they are.

With a little luck the Bucs can win 10 games next season and make the play-offs again.

I believe this year’s team will be better than last year’s team was.

Talking heads keep bringing up the loss of White, Davis and Barrett but it seems like addition by subtraction to me…

  36. Richard Dickson Says:

There’s this perception that because we didn’t add anybody in free agency, we somehow got worse.

  37. Pickgrin Says:

    Capt.Tim Says:
“With JTS, Hall, and Gregory, that in no way resembles an NFL line”

Which is why all 3 of those players are back-ups if they don’t get cut before the season starts (Gregory is as good as gone already I believe)

Opening Day starting front 4 is Braswell – Vea – Kancey – Diaby

JTS, Nelson, Watts and Ramirez are the backups at OLB

Hall, Gaines, Gholston and Mike Green (or Judge Culpepper) are DT backups

  38. Joe Says:

There’s this perception that because we didn’t add anybody in free agency, we somehow got worse.

Bucs added Jordan Whitehead. But yeah, you are right. Because the Bucs didn’t go after a QB, they suck.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

    ===========

Meanwhile the Bucs are going to be relying on Baker Mayfield…

That’s why people are down on them.

Baker was 18th in QBR, the Bucs were 20th in scoring – and that was in a career year, and the Bucs lost their OC. The Bucs defense is what bailed the Bucs out, and they lost 3 starters, and have zero depth at ILB or Edge.

I understand fans being blindly optimistic, but I think it’s very very safe to say the NFC South is going to be greatly improved from last year when it was a complete joke, and if the Bucs aren’t greatly improved, it’s going to be very easy for them to fall down the standings chart.

Again, not rooting against them, just being realistic.

Bowles isn’t a good coach, he wants to ruin the offense by just running it up the middle on every play, while on defense he wants to go to a passive soft zone. I don’t see a lot of reasons to be optimistic. But, it’s just my opinion, and they exceeded my expectations last year, so lets hope they can do it again.

  40. Capt.Tim Says:

    Pickgrin,
    We play a 3-4 defense.
You wanna list our 2 starting Des, our Nose tackle, and our 4 starting lbers.?
And Braswell hasnt been a srarter,so he isnt a starter until he earns it.

    Bucsfan,
It looks like the national media believes that being last in rushing and last in Pass defense will catch up with the Bucs this year.
    Its my concern also.

  41. MTBucFan Says:

    ——————————————————————————–
Capt Tim, the scoring defense is the single most important stat for the defense. Again, the Bucs were tied for #6 in the NFL. I find the pass defense infuriating when the receivers are given such a huge cushion, I really do, but once the opponents get into the red zone the Bucs are really good. Their red zone defense was #3 in the NFL. Even with the loss of Davis at CB I’m confident that our secondary will be better this season. Whitehead and Tykee Smith will be upgrades at their positions and Zyon will take another big step forward this offseason becoming more of a playmaker like he was in college.

As far as getting pressure more pressure on the QB, much of that came from rookies last season (Kancey & Diaby) and both should be better this season after spending a whole off-season in the weight-room. They’ve got some other young guys like Watts will hopefully step up, plus the addition of Braswell.

  43. SenileSenior Says:

I wonder how many of our critics saw Roger Staubach play or know the meaning of sophistry. We fans are not putting our team on the level of KC. We’ve got something worthwhile here and we could do very well this year.

    Go Bucs!

  44. SenileSenior Says:

LOL You got it, Cobraboy. It goes both ways. We will win some of those games listed. It is reasonable to predict a winning season for our Bucs.

  45. Dave Pear Says:

A defense that is one of the league leaders in yards given up, and continues that trend, will be one of the league leaders in points given up. Last year was an anomaly.

Now — on the Hope side of the fence —. We were really playing with only one safety last season (Twan) and a bunch of vegetative spastics. New adds……Whitehead……the rook…..arrow is pointing up. Love the CB from the Jets, he will start opposite Dean.

Just put Logan The Oaf in a portolet for all the practices leading up to the scrimmages, then let him come out and roll up on a few Jets O-linemen. At least get some use out of him before sending him to the UFL.

  46. Brian in St Pete Says:

No team did a better job at simultaneously resigning all of their important free agents while plugging holes in the draft and FA. We were one of the final 8 last season, had a terrific offseason, and we still get crapped on. Keep underestimating us.

  47. garro Says:

The loud crowd folks truly believe if they talk louder than everyone else and say it enough then it has to be the truth regardless of the ridiculousness of it. BSPN is a prime example of this.
