Bucs Will Need That Bye Week
May 16th, 2024Joe isn’t the only one who thinks the Bucs got their bye week at the right time.
Joe mentioned last night how the Bucs getting a bye in Week 11 in mid-November is good timing. Kevin Patra of NFL.com thinks the Bucs are really going to need it.
The Bucs, in the two immediate games prior to the bye, travel to Kansas City, the reigning Super Bowl champs, and then host at 1 p.m. the following Sunday the 2023 NFC champs, the 49ers.
Patra believes that may be the toughest one-two punch any team in the NFL will face this season.
Back-to-back Super Bowl opponents. Todd Bowles’ club will need the exhale provided by a Week 11 bye. Ahead of that midseason break, the Bucs play back-to-back games against last season’s Super Bowl participants. Tampa heads to Kansas City for a Week 9 Monday Night Football affair against Patrick Mahomes and the Lombardi-winning Chiefs. Then, on a short week, the Bucs host Christian McCaffrey and the star-studded NFC-champion 49ers. That’s as rough a one-two punch as any club faces this season — particularly deep into its pre-bye run.
Joe is looking at the bigger picture in that generally teams with a later bye have more success after the bye. The Bucs only need to look at 2020 for evidence.
After losing to the Chiefs in late November, the Bucs went on a bye. That Chiefs game turned out to be the last time all year the Bucs lost. They ran the table — eight gamesd — and won the Super Bowl.
But yeah, Joe gets where Patra is coming from. After those two games, there may be a lot of guys needing to heal.

There are two pairs of games that I think will be very difficult. That KC-SF pair and the Eagle-Falcon duo with the Falcons on the short week. Absolutely need to win the home games in those pairs. Maybe the Falcons will still be learning their new coach and QB by then.

Love the Bucs video. Yes, it is all about artistry!

The Bye was a disaster last year for the offense. I just rewatched the Lions game right after the bye and Canales play calling was terrible and Baker seemed rusty. The Bucs have to learn from that.
RESILIENCE my word for this season. I have the Bucs 10-7, but I have the Bucs losing four in a row going into the bye ( Ravens, Falcons, Chiefs, 49ers). Right after the bye, I have the Bucs winning three in a row (Giants, Panthers, Raiders). There will be a lot of negativity with the losses going into the bye, the team has the be prepared for this and come out the the bye with confidence to take the next three games. It will be a roller coaster year for the Bucs and us at JBF. Go Bucs!

I think the Bucs will lose both of those games and set the stage for an NFC Championship victory over the 49ers and a Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs.

I thought that video was totally awesome too.
I seem to remember that we weren’t so hot after last years bye.

^^^^^^
Losing four straight games probably qualifies as “not so hot.”
Joe, Any chance you can ask Bowles how he’s looked to improve as a HC over the off season? 4 losses after the bye week. Blowing two games with bad late game timeouts. Not calling a TO at the end of the Detroit game. He messed up a lot.

They’re all doomed. Doomed I say.

The first 30 minutes after the 2020 bye was a disaster — 60 yards of offense and down 17-0 to Raheehaw. That’s when BA let Brady take over and run the table. Todd still managed to keep it close by giving up huge chunk plays but our veteran studs and Diva White came through in spite of Todd.
But at halftime of that game I was staring at a full fifth of scotch wondering if I’d need more.
