Rachaad White Can Block, Too

May 14th, 2024

Awesome block revealed.

Who says Rachaad White is a finesse player?

Joe sometimes catches flak for defending Bucs running back White as a blocker. He’s excellent catching the ball out of the backfield and an underrated blocker.

As a runner, well, you know.

Joe always defended White as a blocker by saying he’s “a willing blocker.” No, he will never remind anyone of Ryan Jensen lining up in the backfield, or for you old-timers, Lorenzo Neal.

But Joe gives White props for sticking his nose in there. He’s not afraid. Not one bit. Sometimes, that’s half the battle.

For example, Brandon Thorn, who has developed a cottage industry of offensive linemen analysis, shared a clip of White on Twitter yesterday. White absolutely obliterated a blitzing Jags corner (Tre Herndon?). Just lights his arse up.

Joe was surprised that in Roger Goodell’s don’t-hit-too-hard league, that White wasn’t tossed from the game. He damn near beheaded the dude. Like the guy got clotheslined. It was a beautiful thing.

No, White is not feared by defensive linemen, but to his credit, he’s unafraid of trying to stop these guys to buy time for Baker Mayfield.

White deserves props for that.

Lowered the shoulder on that block! Now, if he can do that while holding the ball, we may be getting somewhere.

That’s the one thing nobody is willing to mention about Bucky Irving. Fantastic runner beyond the LOS, sufficient enough as a receiver out of the backfield, but man his “want to” in pass pro needs to be checked and corrected.

White is good in pass pro and might even be a good lead blocker for Bucky. Bucky’s got to up his pass pro game to get on the field.

White is solid in all aspects of the passing game…..hopefully he develops as a runner to be a complete back. Has the potential of Kamara if he can consistently average 4 yds per carry.

Rashad White is going to surprise everyone this year…with the addition of Bucky Irving ( how the hell he landed so low is beyond me) and a new rushing philosophy here in Tampa the Buccaneers is might just be in the top 10 in rushing…DON’T LAUGH…I know it’s hard to believe but together they compliment each other perfectly and with Barton here to help open holes…who knows
Barton and Irving are going to go down as one of the best draft choices in Buccaneers history….yea…And it will help take the heat of Mayfield and help open up the passing game….looking forward to a great Year here….

I honestly doubt we see a huge uptick in rushing attempts…Minor, sure…But the NFL is a pass 1st league… So, White better be prepared to handle Pass Pro duties & put his face in there often.

Coen will dial up plenty of runs & set-up explosive opportunities using play-action to take the top off…(Which is where White will need to be the guy that keep the D-Front honest!)….But from a pass-run ratio, I expect to see the same 60-40 (ish) pass heavy concepts trending throughout the league….Just a ton of bunch sets, pre-snap movement & play-action all being eye candy for the Defense to follow.

What I do expect to see is a minor improvement in run efficiency…If Coen’s play calling follows closely with what I have seen from the Rams (w/ McVay calling plays) or during his time on Kentucky’s sidelines…We could expect to see the Bucs break the 110yd/game threshold & that would be just enough to place the Bucs rushing attack in the middle of the pack…(Enough improvement to help keep a few more drives going & put more points on the board…That kind of improvement translates to 4-5 extra pts/game from 2023 = 24-25pts/game = 10-11 win regular season as long as there is no DEF drop-off!)

If White just hits holes & Bucky can make a few guys miss each week…Coen will dial up enough bread&butter plays to spread the wealth & allow the OL to get into a rhythm moving people. Which will in turn make the play-action much more efficient w/ Evans, Godwin, Palmer & McMillian all having the ability to get chunk yards in bunches!

Anytime people talk about this guy it’s never about how good of a runner he is. Hopefully he develops soon.

BEST BLOCK BY A RUNNING BACK EVER!!!!

Fournette’s block on Parsons!!!!!! 4Net shattered his body, mind, and soul. Micah was shut down for the rest of the game.

If you missed it or want to relive it, the clip is available on YouTube.

  9. Mort Says:

Yeah I’m not sold. I’ve seen him exposed too many times to take an example of him blocking a corner and change my mind. Nope.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Nice pick up and devastating block Rachaad.

White is already a complete back.

Rachaad was working behind the worst interior OLine in football last year – with a playcaller who kept ramming him up the gut of said terrible interior OLine over and over again for most of the season….

Yet #1 still put up over 1500 total yards…

That was ridiculous! Sent his soul back to see his ancestors!
