Chipper Todd Bowles
May 10th, 2024Rookie minicamp, performed using underwear football prohibitions, basically means the Bucs’ drafted rookies can shake off the cobwebs and learn the playbook.
And yeah, see if the undrafted free agents are not mistakes and brought back for training camp.
As a result, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was downright chipper (for him) as he tries to hide his personality whenever he’s in front of the cameras.
Third-round pick Tykee Smith, who only cares about what he does between the white lines, had a pick today per Jenna Laine of ESPN.
Bowles was asked if Smith made a good impression and Bowles had one of his two good one-liners of the afternoon.
“He made a good impression when we drafted him,” Bowles quipped and laughed. “You kind of expect it. He was a playmaker in college. He has a chance to be a playmaker in this league.”
Bowles emphasized that the key to rookie minicamp is for guys to learn, not so much about performance on the field this weekend.
“It’s mostly the learning part,” Bowles said. “Get them acclimated to our scheme. Get them acclimated to the strength program. Get them acclimated to the heat and how we do things here so going forward they can catch up.”
Yes, Joe thought the players got a taste of the Florida heat today. There have been warmer rookie minicamps but it wasn’t exactly frosty out there today.

Happy to hear that Jenna was watching OTA’s for us with some reporting. Didn’t see who threw the pick?
You mean the tryout QB that has no chance to make the team?–Joe

Whoever threw the pick it was a guy who is our 4th or 5th string QB, so I wouldn’t sweat it. The guy is , sadly for him. probably only “camp meat”.

Couldn’t watch it. Bucs took away the awning out on the patio. Zero shade. Was not warned about this, so was not prepared. Joe’s been carved up enough getting skin cancers removed. Love you guys but rookie minicamp is *not* worth more surgeries. Will be prepared for Saturday.

Only a guy named JimBob complains about not knowing which future ditch digger threw the pick. I actually think it was your brother, so maybe you do care.
