Bucs Rookies Seem To Have Priorities Straight
May 10th, 2024The Bucs trotted out a few of their draft picks this morning before rookie minicamp began this afternoon. And at least two seem to have the right focus.
Running back Bucky Irving wore his No. 7 jersey. Irving was asked why he chose that number. He didn’t. It’s what the Bucs gave him.
Same with outside linebacker Chris Braswell. He wore No. 43. He did not ask for it. Numbers come and go but making an NFL team doesn’t.
In an era where dudes consider their number part of their brand and in some cases pay six figures to wear “their” number, Joe thought this was a throwback to simpler times.
Irving later was asked was his role would be with the Bucs. He said he didn’t know. That wasn’t a shot at any of the coaches. Irving’s mindset is: Tell him what to do and he will do it.
Joe said to Irving that he seemed like a football player, just worried about football and the outside stuff will take care of itself so long as he takes care of football. Irving fully agreed.
“I just go with the flow,” Irving said. He added he’s not one to hound coaches (which is why he wasn’t sure of his role with the team).
Tell Irving what to do and he will do it. No barking. No drama. No hassles. No problem.

Just give it your best and everything will fall in place. Primadonna’s have no place in football

Is there strategic value in having an edge rusher wearing what was typically a safety’s number? Or a running back wearing a receiver’s number? The Brady complained about the numbers being changed, I would think so.

This is 1970s Wing-T high school coach paranoia where they would change numbers of players each week. If you watch old Packers practice clips from NFL Films Bart Starr wore a number in the 50s and Paul Hornung wore No. 71.
On face value, could sort of understand how it may confuse someone but it isn’t about what the number of the defender wears, it’s where he is lined up.
After the NFL changed the numbers requirements for positions, Brady went out and won 14 games that season (including his last playoff win) and had the most completions in his career.

No. 43 had some memories to old school Buc fans.

So far, everything I have seen looks like our team is better than last year. GO BUCS!

This is great news! Two more guys “who get it”. After some early desperation JL seems committed to keeping the Bucs “culture” on the high ground.
Do we really miss Swaggy, AB, KWJr or any of the other head cases who have worked at OBP.
Devin White was the last player to even have a whiff of troublemaker.

View 132. Eckwood was fun to watch

Irving already sounds better than R White. He’s about team instead of himself.

Hey, speaking of Devin White, do you think the Eagles’ brass would let him ride his horse around their stadium after a big win?

Refreshing that he wants to “go with the flow”. To many young guys get it backwards and think they have already earned All Pro treatment when they have not yet done much of anything. Hear that Diva?
Go Bucs!
