“Wired To Separate”
May 7th, 2024Joe knows it is early, really irresponsibly early in underwear football to discuss with any degree of certainty of who will play how much with the exception of established Bucs starters.
Still, listening to Bucs offensive coaches, it’s hard not to get stoked about receiver Jalen McMillan. The coaches feel the Bucs may have gotten a steal with McMillan being selected in the third round, 92nd overall.
Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon stated yesterday he didn’t think there was any way McMillan would have been available late in the third round had he not been “nicked up” dealing with a knee injury while playing at Washington, which advanced to the national championship game against Michigan last year.
This was the same opinion held by Bucs assistant general manager John Spytek.
Yesterday, Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen seemed fired up having the chance to groom McMillan.
“I love J-Mac,” Coen said when asked about his attributes. “He’s a true route-runner. He’s a guy that is wired to separate. He has the ability to work the defense at all three levels.
“He’s very quarterback-friendly with the way that he gets out of his breaks. He’s a hands catcher. He played in a system with a group of guys that was extremely competitive. And he has that competitive nature to be able to come in here and compete for early playing time.”
Coen offered no guarantees. McMillan will have to work for playing time. But Coen’s body language said he couldn’t wait to get McMillan in the mix, at least in underwear football.
Listening to Coen and McClendon rave about McMillan and how excited they became talking about him, it was hard for Joe not to get stoked.

we traded our best corner to a playoff team (that just beat us) to draft this dude.
so hopefully, this dude is a DUDE.
its a bucs life!
super bowl or BUST.
I think Bryce Hall is our best corner on the roster

Lets hope for the best but the percentage of teams in the nfl and their fans who think they got a steal in the draft is probably high

This kid is amazing. He impressed me much more than Rome Odunze in the Huskies games I watched since last year. Sticky hands, always open, willing blocker. Huge steal, he’ll be great since week 1.

Somebody once wrote “Really, irresponsibly early in underwear football…” I just hope he stays healthy and his knee holds out through OTA’s and training camp. Fingers crossed. How is his knee now?

Haven’t heard anything bad. He caught a game-high six passes in the national championship game. That was four months ago so the knee shouldn’t be an issue.

Great skill n hustler..not afraid to play with pain..Bucs are gonna be smackn this season.

I am very excited for this kid to be considered a steal in the draft. But until the underwear is removed, I can only describe this journey in two words: Kenny Bell.

I never get too excited about these types of WRs. Most are not very durable and wash out in training camp or pre season. Time will tell if this guy is injury prone or not.

‘Tis the giddy season…

Welcome aboard mate!

His knee was just a sprain, nothing permanent
May 7th, 2024 at 7:31 am
It was a tear …

Really needed a WR3……..RB2……Interior Oline…….Edge….
Great draft….

Umm, pewterstiffarm…I think you meant add pads, not remove underwear…at least I hope so LOL!

@SB-LV
A sprain is a tear. Was an MCL. He tried to come back to early and was in and out of the lineup. Encouraging thing was last few games of year he was healthy and the numbers back it up.

Puka Nacua couldn’t beat out McMillan, so he transferred to BYU.
I think we’ve got a good one here.

Good point Fred McNeil! Also, I like hearing that about Puka Nacua Geno711. Hopefully it means he’s even better. I can’t wait for this season!!

We traded a corner with big salary for, potentially, another Chris Godwin with a third round salary. I like that bet.
May 7th, 2024 at 12:39 pm
Wow, yeah this is a steal for sure. Toughness argh, check. Deep Threat oh yeah. I think we have something special!!!!
May 7th, 2024 at 9:14 pm
Chris Godwin was also a third round steal.

That doesn’t matter one bit, remember Russell Wilson ? He couldn’t beat out Mike Glennon at Tennessee. Mike Glennon couldn’t beat out anyone in the NFL.
We will see if this guy is able to stay on the field and if it starts getting tough for him he might go play baseball because he loves it more than football

Don’t get me wrong I’ll still be rooting for the kid to succeed.

Lot’s of opportunity to see this young man play out here on the west coast, he’s exceptional and expect he will be our #3 receiver once the season begins. Great pick Jason!
