Tristan Wirfs Still Amazes Teammates
April 30th, 2024Joe can’t wait for freshly-drafted rookie Bucs center (guard?) Graham Barton to meet his superstar teammates, left tackle Tristan Wirfs.
Wirfs is such a freak of nature that his longtime teammates still marvel over his body. Barton is sure to take one look at Wirfs and realize he’s in the NFL — and then he gets to block slimmed down Vita Vea.
Vea likely is now around 350 pounds. Count on Wirfs being a relatively chisled 360.
Rachaad White talked about Wirfs’ once-in-a-generation body recently on the Green Light podcast.
“I tell [Wirfs], I gotta meet your parents, dog. Like this is crazy,” White said. “‘I gotta see somehow. Or God just brought you out like this, bro.’ You disappear for sure behind him. We talk about it all the time, like his size is massive. We just talk about how clean it is. It’s not sloppy. Like he’s built. You can tell he’s a [former] state champion wrestler. Iowa.”
Now the Bucs must figure out how to somehow churn out 4.5 yards a carry behind their massive left tackle. Maybe, just maybe, the Bucs want Barton — 6-5, 315 pounds — to play alongside Wirfs and form a weapon-like front on the left side of the Bucs’ offensive line.

I would love to see Barton next to him, but then we have no center. Surely we can find a big boy to plug in there at LG.
And don’t call me Shirley.

This team sure feels like it is heading in the right direction based on the off season and the just completed draft. Not a lot of holes on this team left. I know. I know. Pass Rush. Pass Rush.

And Rachaad White still doesn’t have enough vision to run behind Wirfs?

They need to figure out how to pay him since the lions beat the Bucs to the punch and Penai Sewell reset the tackle market at 28 million dollars a year when the previous high was 25.

If he lands at center so be it, but Barton next to Wirfs would be FUN to watch. That tandom could help a RB earn a Pro Bowl.

Go get a center that has played center, surely Licht has done some small school center, would love the left side to be anchored by Wirfs and Barton. Is there a chance the refrigerator can hike the ball

Wait until he sees Goedeke lifting weights.
WHAT IN THE HECK IS WRONG WITH WRITERS AND THE BUCS? …
NFL writers got MASSIVE egg on their faces predicting the Bucs would be the THE WORST team in the NFL. Then, they win the division, beat the defending NFC Champs in the playoffs, and almost make the NFC Championship Game.
Fast forward, the Bucs resign everyone, have a great draft, sign a competent proven OC, and enter this season with almost zero holes in their roster.
I looked up post-draft Power Rankings to find the Bucs ranked 16 and 19. Every ranking had Atlanta, Green Bay, and Philly higher. I get Philly but Atlanta?
I hope the team is clipping articles.

Wirfs and Barton side by side sounds nice. Browns have a 2nd year guy, Luke Wypler, who played Center at Ohio State. He can probably be had for a 4 or 5 round 2025 draft pick. Bring him into camp and let him compete for Tampa job.

“Go get a center that has played center……would love the left side to be anchored by Wirfs and Barton“
Barton did play center his freshman. What you are advocating is for him to play a position (LG) that he DIDN’T play in college. So…

Nice dream but may have to wait a year or two….Barton is our center.

Slypirate, I hear ya man. 3/4 of the country still think the Bucs are a joke without Tom who only made the playoffs because it was the worst division in football. I think they still know the disrespect is there and they are using it as motivation. I believe we had articles about it here after ATL signed 1 playoff win Kirk Cousins and everyone immediately crowned them.
I need this draft class to hit, the Bucs in the divisional round again and to see the cap space heading into 2025 because no Tom, Jensen and possibly Godwin on the books means money to burn and another SB to chase down. I see it very much in the realm of possibility. I need another SB in the next 3 years like I need air to breathe. There would be no denying the newfound greatness of this franchise if they add a 3rd Lombardi.
We are the anti-Cowboys. Overcoming low expectations and I guess I should be happy they aren’t the Cowgirls continually crapping their pants with high expectations. Can’t believe people still believe in them. I think Bowles is questionable… I would take him every time over Mike McCarthy.

Barton at LG could be like Russ Grimm and Joe Jacoby

Joe, Barton needs to be the head of the spear. Here’s your new O line, Barton center, Mauch LG, Wirfs LT, Klein RG, Goedeke RT, book it.

Well said SlyPirate. The sports media have been terrible when talking about the Bucs. The Bucs proved them all wrong too and are keeping receipts.

For the Bucs to start getting any respect from the sports world, they will need to win the SB again. And still, that might not be enough.
I for one could care less about the talking heads of the national sports media. Most of them are clueless!

@74 Bucs Fan “Surely, you can’t be serious?”

I would love to meet Wirfs one day

Read nfl.com and that will show you how much reforestation we get. Someone said it best last week, we are the Rodney Dangerfields of the NFL “NO RESPECT”. I think that respect took a further dip when the fanbois came along with Baker.

Proofreading is fundamental. That was respect not reforestation. You’d think I was a sports blog writer or something
