Derrick Ward Delivers

He was juking Jacksonville defenders. He was cutting. He was breaking tackles.
His name is Derrick Ward.
Why some might say Ward looked like he was chasing down a scantily clad Kardashian through a crowded Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Barring a shocker of a trade, Joe’s quite certain Ward will be on the Buccaneers come opening day. They need him, assuming there’s more left in his 30-year-old tank.
Ward, playing against the Jaguars’ starters, ripped off 19 yards on four carries, including runs of nine and 12 yards. During the latter he broke three tackles, made three cuts and finished off the run hard.
If Ward were Kareem Huggins, Bucs fans would be out of their minds excited right now.
Huggins, again, didn’t get a shot to line up behind the Bucs’ starting offensive line. As Joe has written through the week, Joe’s just not seeing how the Bucs are that serious about Huggins.
He’s a great kid, but that hasn’t gotten him much of a shot.

As good as Ward is, he doesn’t really seem like a change from Caddy. Huggy would provide that change of speed and shiftiness that is so useful. I’d like to try and get some value for Ward in trade, and see what Huggy can do.

Man, that stadium looked empty. I’m guessing 15 thousand from how it looked on the internet. I guess St Pete has nothing to worry about from there cousins across the bay stealing there team.

Didn’t go to the game, so I obviously didn’t watch it, but how does two good rushes solidify his spot on this roster? You say he had two nice rushes for 9 and 12 yards, but he ended up with 4 carries for 19 yards. So the other two rushes were for a negative 2 yards. Doesn’t sound like a very impressive night to me, but again I didn’t watch.
Nice to see the defense only give up 3 points in the first half.

I didn’t see enough from him to make good on his laziness in the off season. No way did enough to jump Huggins IMO.

Actually, Ward did have those two nice runs. Other than that, the whole run game looked horrible. The line never gave Caddy a hole to get through, half of Ward’s runs resulted in -2 yards, while the other half were for +21, and Huggins didn’t get anything from the backup line. If that’s the best the line can block against the Jags, we’re in trouble. We may need Huggins just to bounce outside and try to MAKE something happen, because the holes aren’t opening up inside.

joe against the chiefs he did have the first string line to run behind, it was very similar to this week, cause penn, zuttah, vincent, faine and trublood were all in this week and last week it was penn, zuttah. vincent. joseph and trueblood. its about the same in my opinion, just cause one starter was out doesnt mean hes running behind the first team line, cause if hed started the game this week. he still would have been without one of the starters in joseph, i dont see the difference

I would have like to see huggins with the first team, and the way he has been running he should have. That shows me someone in the front office wants to keep Ward.

there ya go Joe … Ward has 2 positive Runs … Hes a keeper and Huggins is a practice Squader … Just like Antonio Bryant is a Hall of Famer

Ward still here due 2 contract status. 2 good runs against a 1.5 string defense and now he’s All-Pro and ready 2 go.

Ward SUCKS point-blank period. Even u could’ve had a 1000 yds with tha Giants when he played
