Are The Bucs Down On Jeremy Zuttah?

August 24th, 2010

Joe had high hopes for guard Jeremy Zuttah.

Two years ago as a rookie, filling in for an injured Davin Joseph at right guard to start the season, not once during a game did anyone hear Zuttah’s name called during a Bucs TV/radio broadcast.

For an offensive lineman, there can be no higher honor.

Then last year after Arron Sears left the team, Zuttah filled in for him at left guard. Though the Bucs have not spoken publicly about Zuttah, one man is of the belief that the Bucs may have soured on Zuttah.

eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune believes Zuttah will remain on the bench when the Bucs open the season against Cleveland. This is what Kaufman wrote via the TBO Bucs Twitter feed.

LG Jeremy Zuttah showed TB little during two preseason games. Keydrick Vincent will work between Donald Penn and Jeff Faine.

It’s Joe’s belief that Zuttah just might be better cut out for working the right side of the ball. Bad thing for Zuttah is, Joseph is entrenched and is going nowhere any time soon.

Maybe Zuttah is tired because he has to play way more snaps than the other starters this pre-season… LG, then Center.

  2. Gatorbuc15 Says:

Didn’t think Zuttah was doing to bad. Guess Vincent is just doing a little better.

Step it up Zutt. if you wanna start.

  3. Javier n Wimauma Says:

Vincet looks better than Zuttah, because Zuttah starts out at LG. Then, after a quarter, moves over to Center. And then a fresh Vincent steps in and plays right next to him against the second string defense.

Zuttah is worth his weight in gold being so versatile.

  4. MichiganBucsFan Says:

That’s just not true Joe. If your name keeps getting called because your making some impressive pancake blocks on every play, I would say that would be a “higher honor” than just not screwing up.

  5. gotbbucs Says:

yes javier, zuttah does have quite a bit of value……as a backup that knows multiple positions

  6. McBuc Says:

Joe…TBO says Snead has been signed. No Carmella again this year…LOL

  7. JimBuc Says:

Been a while since I have been on these board, but I see that some things never change. Javier (RahDom) after calling me an offensive name (LOL) on another thread adds this little nugget of stupidity:

“Vincet looks better than Zuttah, because Zuttah starts out at LG. Then, after a quarter, moves over to Center. And then a fresh Vincent steps in and plays right next to him against the second string defense.”

Javier (RahDom) — the team practices nearly every day, some times multiple times per day. The game is not the only criteria. Zuttah is being moved to center and has been allowed to start over Vincent, because the Bucs want Zuttah to succeed. Even you are no so dumb (well maybe) so as to think the Bucs want Zuttah to fail, right? If he fails that means they have to waste another pick on a lineman. They want him to develop, not fail Rah Dom . . . err . . . Javier

  8. eric Says:

Vincent has started for some good teams, Steelers, Ravens, Panthers.

Just wonder why he doesn’t stick anywhere.

  9. JimBuc Says:

You’ll love this Eric. Vincent was the victim of a youth movement in Carolina. Seems the Panthers are also building through the draft.

  10. oar Says:

JimBuc, Obviously, he’s been in the league 10 years. Considering he only played 4 years with Steelers, then 2 with Ravens, then 1 year with Cardinals, and finally 2 years with the Panthers, I’m not sure if the “youth movement” was the ONLY reason! He has bounced around a lot, before his “old” veteran status.

  11. oar Says:

    oops… nine years, not 10

  12. DieHard Bob Says:

It’s a long season and Zuttah is pretty versital, just the kind of guy you want around when someone goes down.

  13. gotbbucs Says:

exactly bob, his value lies in being a versatile backup, not a subpar starter. i dont think he was ever drafted to be a starter. i think gruden/allen’s intentions were for him to be a swing man.

  14. JimBuc Says:

oar, I know that. I only made the joke with Eric about the youth movement because I know he is against it. Just a joke. Not sure about the other locations.

Maybe the better question would be why can’t Zuttah beat out a guy like Vincent? The Bucs obviously want Zuttah to win the competition.

  15. oar Says:

Diehard and gotbbucs, I would have to agree.

  16. oar Says:

JimBuc, A joke? Are you crazy? Don’t you know, nobody jokes on here! LOL!
Seriously, as for your “better question”, see diehard and gotbbucs.

  17. oar Says:

JimBuc, Glad to see you’re hanging around a while, again.

  18. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Versatility is about the only thing Zuttah excels in…he is very very mediocre…mediocre pass plocker ,and a barely mediocore run blocker.

If he couldn’t play ever position on the line he’d be on the bubble , IMO.

  19. Radio Mushmouth Says:

oh and by the way , JimBuc trying to stay away from JoeBucsFan flies trying to stay away from sh*t….it aint happening !

  20. JimBuc Says:

oar, he will stay because he is versatile, everyone gets that. But, he cannot be very good as a starter if he cannot beat out by Vincent. The Bucs wanted Zuttah to be the starter because it would save them from having to spend another pick on the line. He was given every opportunity.

  21. MOBucs Says:

It was just a matter of time before Vincent got the start. Did this move really surprise people? He underachieved last year and looked out of shape in the offseason workouts. Once Vincent signed, I knew he would be the starter.

  22. MOBucs Says:

Right on JimBuc! How many chances do you give a guy until you make a change. It’s not like Zuttah’s career is over. Maybe losing his starting job will motivate Zuttah bust his ass in the offseason and not feel entitled!

  23. rich Says:

Joe, rich here this is a friendly post ,not bashing you… you were all over us for wanting vincent instead of zuttah. Im guessing the coaching staff has seen what we have all seen. he just isnt that good..i think he would be a better center..

  24. oar Says:

JimBuc, What gives? Why do you even think I’m questioning the move? I never waded into those waters about, if he was a starter or not? Or who would be the starter, Vincent or Zuh? I was originally, just replying to your, “got let go cause he was old vet from the Panthers” post. Which, I disagreed and you claimed was just a joke for Eric.

  25. JimBuc Says:

oar, I don’t think you are questioning anything. You referred me to two other poster’s comments. I was commenting on their comments. Sorry for misunderstanding.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

So Radio, how do you feel about Benn???

Boy, you guys were on JimBucs like flys on $h!t.

I haven’t seen much out of Truebonehead yet either.

Did all you idiots vote today? You still have 15 minutes.

  27. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    Arrelious who??

You mean a Areallylousy Bust , the Invisible “Z” , Bennie the Goat , Arrellious Bustilous ??

No I didn’t vote . Every candidate on either side is either a fraud or a moron so far as I can tell.

THE IRONY IS ALMOST TOO MUCH TO TAKE 🙂

  29. BigMacAttack Says:

I really thought we were going to have a good team until our starting O line took the last game off, and then KC ran the ball down our throats,,, at will. I’m dreading the Carolgina game. At least Clausen has a bad toe, and I think it’s his throwing toe. Maybe Benn can layout their Punt returner on a fair catch like they did Peanut. That might win Benn some brownie points with the Coach

  30. Radio Mushmouth Says:

How’d they run all over us …Didn’t our new nose tackle play, Brian Price??

  31. eric Says:

The Browns have a guy that rushed for over two hundred yards in one game toward the end of last season.

    Whoops.

  32. oar Says:

JimBuc, It’s cool. BTW I do realize I referred you to two other comments, but it was about Zuh being versatile. Had nothing to do with the Zuh/Vincent battle. No biggie though.
