Adam Schefter Explains Possible Price For Haason Reddick
March 7th, 2024Once upon a time, the Bucs were in dire need of a pass rush. You knew it; Joe knew it. Hell, even the head coach (Dirk Koetter) knew it as he barked at Joe at the combine that winter how the Bucs absolutely had to have more sacks if they wanted to win.
So Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht went out and made one of the great steals in Bucs history. For a second-day draft pick, the Bucs acquired gifted edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul.
Before JPP and the Bucs were done, the Bucs flashed a Super Bowl ring.
And here the Bucs are, faced yet again without an edge rush. Oh, Joe likes what YaYa Diaby did as a rookie. But did anyone notice how his production fell off once he was named starter?
Right now Diaby is the only guy on the Bucs roster that resembles pass rusher. Joe cannot believe the Bucs will enter the 2024 season banking (hoping?) Diaby is that-guy, and not getting him any help.
And just like in 2018, an NFC East team might be willing to part company with a quality pass rusher for a second-day draft pick.
Yesterday, uber NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on WPEN-FM 97.5 in Philadelphia on the “John Kincade Show.” There, Schefter seemed to have a good idea what ransom the Eagles are seeking in a trade of edge rusher Haason Reddick. He can be had for likely either a second-round pick or a package deal of a third- and a fifth-round pick, per Schefter
Give Joe the cell phone number for Howie Roseman. Joe would make that call in a heartbeat. A heartbeat!
Let’s be real: Would anyone expect a second-round pick, or a third-round pick to come in and legitimately give the Bucs a chance to have double-digit sacks like Reddick? The seven-year pro, who turns 30 in September, has had at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons.
When your next-best edge rusher is Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and Reddick is being dangled for a cheap return, Joe makes that trade quicker than you can say “Delco’s cheesesteaks.”

meh
March 7th, 2024 at 9:09 am
His option + bonus make him a $4 million bargain for 2024, all of other cash is on the Eagles books. If he has more than 2 years in the tank it’s a good deal. Make it happen.
March 7th, 2024 at 9:10 am
Not for a 2nd rounder.
March 7th, 2024 at 9:12 am
The don’t want to keep him no point in giving anything better than a 4th and a pick next yr
March 7th, 2024 at 9:14 am
Pipe dream Joe’s. Money and draft picks do matter.
March 7th, 2024 at 9:21 am
joe’s gonna get laced up in the comments on this one… 🙂
no one ever believes in reddick…
when he was a younger free agent coming off a really big season people were also saying meh…
they always say meh about reddick, yet he puts up numbers…
i would bring him in because he produces no matter how meh people always say he is…
but you really want to be careful what draft capital you fork over – and i’m sure licht and the crew will be frugal in their forkings with philly
March 7th, 2024 at 9:24 am
Reddick only has 1 year left on his contract and its a $21.8M cap hit – base salary of $14.5M. Also 3 dummy years tacked on the end totaling $13.8M which is the Eagles problem from can kicking.
What team would give a high draft pick to acquire an expensive 1 year rental like this?
Joe – are you going to wave every single expensive FA or player available via trade under our noses all off season? Knowing the Bucs can’t afford any of them…
Once Mayfield, LD54 and McGlaughlin are signed and the long term deals for Winfield Jr and Wirfs get inked – the Bucs are DONE with big contracts for this year!
March 7th, 2024 at 9:25 am
Double Meh
March 7th, 2024 at 9:27 am
i just double checked his stats…
his tackles, ff, fr, and pd have fallen off last year…
he had a big 2022 season…!!
2023 was a bit more meh…
maybe philly thinks this is where he definitely down cycles…who knows
March 7th, 2024 at 9:31 am
The Bucs simply cannot go into next season with a virtual unproven guy as their main pass rusher, with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka as the second best. If they do that, Joe doesn’t want to hear one person whine about the corners.
Hell, you give Mitch Trubisky time to throw and he will light your arse up. The Bucs found this out the hard way, remember?
March 7th, 2024 at 9:39 am
I understand the dire need for upgrade at OLB but the Bucs simply can’t afford to pay for an established vet. That position is VERY expensive if the player is good…
Bucs will draft an Edge rusher in the 1st or 2nd rd – and that along with the continued development of Diaby, Watts and Ramirez along with JTS and Nelson will have to do for this year….
March 7th, 2024 at 9:49 am
guys –
we’ve suffered too many losses in recent years at the pass rushing position…
jpp, shaq, dw…etc
and not enough guys to fill the roles…
and some guys haven’t blossomed…
we have some developmental guys in yaya and kancey…
but certainly not enough to hang your hat on…
an established edge guy is something sorely needed for 2024…
can you find a greg white at ikea or best buy – i dunno lol
#StylesGeeWhite
in fact we really can use 2 edge guys…
best bet is add an established one, and draft one fairly early
March 7th, 2024 at 9:56 am
Nope!
March 7th, 2024 at 9:57 am
With as many good pass rushers that will be on the open market, to pass up signing one of them and trade away a 2nd round pick would be a huge L
March 7th, 2024 at 9:57 am
I wouldn’t give away a 2nd round pick and pay $14-$15M for a one year rental.
Maybe a 4th round pick but it’s possible the Eagles just cut this guy at some point then we can pick him up for nothing…
March 7th, 2024 at 10:00 am
He’s 30 and wants an expensive new long term deal! What is wrong with your brain???
March 7th, 2024 at 10:00 am
Triple Meh
March 7th, 2024 at 10:01 am
A fifth this year, a sixth next year and 100 Pat’s cheesesteaks delivered to the locker room.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:04 am
Maybe not this guy, but if Jason Licht can make another trade like he did for JPP, it’d be greatly appreciated.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:08 am
Don’t bank on winning many games unless Baker Mayfield can pull off shootouts. Did Ramirez even take a snap last year??? (He did not.) C’mon. That’s like saying the Tooth Fairy is developing.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:15 am
Fantasy football… unless we don’t sign Baker, in which case we’ll have a little extra for other free agents. If Baker signs, there’s ZERO chance we spend big money on a free agent or trade for a pricey veteran.
Also:
Hell no.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:23 am
I’ve read elsewhere that Yaya Diaby was playing thru an injury late last season. I also read an interview where he says he’s working this offseason on flexibility to become more agile.
Unlike JBF, I haven’t given up on him, and think he will be even better this season.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:24 am
So, JTS is the tooth fairy? Or, he just plays like a fairy Joe?
March 7th, 2024 at 10:25 am
Nope. Not gonna happen.
March 7th, 2024 at 10:26 am
Need an edge rush tho unless he is JPP when lichtttraded for him idk
March 7th, 2024 at 10:37 am
Must be the same Joe that pounded the table for months to draft Jonny football
March 7th, 2024 at 10:54 am
Thats what draft picks are for, to better your team either through the draft or via trade.
March 7th, 2024 at 11:06 am
Chiefs got Karlaftis with 30th pick in ‘22.
Stick with the draft
March 7th, 2024 at 11:29 am
Licht spent a 3 on JPP, who was also over 30. That turned out to be a great trade
March 7th, 2024 at 11:30 am
Hard NO
There are a couple of FA Edges/ OLB out there that can give the Bucs some very solid production (double digit sacks), especially the way Bowles would use them.
Expect the Bucs will probably pick up a mid tier FA and draft one on day 1 or 2
Cam Gill may be the victim, think Watts has a higher upside & sets the contain better (for you uneducated fans that like to spew venom & fit other posters into your delusional molds, that means he’s better at stopping the run) 🙂

“Diaby, Watts and Ramirez along with JTS and Nelson will have to do for this year….”
———————-
this is kinda freakin’ hilarious…you can literally throw away an entire season before even starting if this is your edge squad…
one injury to diaby , jts or nelson…then what…
or can you imagine if diaby takes a step back in year 2…?
relying on ramirez and watts is the wildest thing i’ve ever heard at this point…
ramirez might even just be considered dead weight on the PS as of now…who knows

March 7th, 2024 at 11:37 am
I like paying Huff for 4 years and kicking the can slightly.
We can afford him after some simple restructuring.
Saying we will have to stick with YaYa, JTS, Watts, Ramierez and a draft pick is dumber than saying trade for Reddick. That aint gonna happen.
March 7th, 2024 at 11:39 am
Draft picks are magic beans…. sometimes they work out, sometimes not. When you can get a proven productive player for a low pick – 3rd or lower- you have to consider it.
Would anyone rather have that third instead of JPP? Nah…
March 7th, 2024 at 11:40 am
Idk about that guy maybe for the right price certainly not willing to give up a 2nd for him dude is on his way to 31
March 7th, 2024 at 11:46 am
“RumDude Says:I’ve read elsewhere that Yaya Diaby was playing thru an injury late last season. I also read an interview where he says he’s working this offseason on flexibility to become more agile.”
yes, seem to remember he actually had 2 significant injuries that slowed him down. That and teams had tape on him.
So he does need to work on his arsenal, but that’s part of why he was still there in the 3rd. He has great hands/ strength so hope he improves even more there.
As far as getting more bend, due to his body type, he’s limited, but it won’t hurt him by any means. More flexibility will condition his joints & help him stay out of the tub too.
He plays with the strength of someone who weighs 20-30 pounds more than him

Clayborn was injured alot during his time with Bucs, he was a decent player with Bucs and Falcons when he was healthy
JTS should’ve never been drafted in top 3 rounds. Any college player who sits out a year because he’s afraid of a virus is a big red flag.
March 7th, 2024 at 12:21 pm
Hahaha sugar plum dreams built on delusions.
You’re all in on Baker. This is the future you chose.
There is no money for ANYTHING else.

Nothing against Clayborn, but it still burns me up that the Bucs took him over JOrdan (even if he is a big mouth)

My point still stands. Would I trade a 1st or 2nd for Reddick? No.
3rd and lower, however, and you have to think about it.
March 7th, 2024 at 2:08 pm
@Stormy
Due to his age & signs of possible decline, there’s some affordable edge rushers in FA that would give just as much production if not more.
If it were me, I’m holding on to the draft pick, especially this year

Incorrect Joe. Kancey is disruptive as H, and gonna take that 2nd year leap. Its not just YaYa. Would rather see them get Chop Robinson than buy a FA. Chop is a raw talent, but greasy fast like Kancey. Pretty sure Bowles can coach him up where by game 6 people’s heads gonna spin off trying to keep keep up with that pair. They got a little bit more than YaYa..

I’m a son of a biscuit eater myself.
Seriously tho, I like Chop, but what do you think of Darius Robinson?
He’s a lot bigger. Think he can play OLB Edge/ DE in 3-4 or 4-3.
With all the OTs, WR, CB & QB in this draft, think the Bucs could move back, get an extra pick and still nab Darius

There is going to be an all out youth movement on the defensive side of the ball. There may be an added vet, but not at any huge price. Bowles can scheme pressure. Keep picking guys that he can fit into his tool box. Bring the band back together, and let Coach Bowles do his thing.

Meh, is cool, I like it. get the best you can in the draft baby xx did pretty good last year so find us a Gem. But online second, unless Penix jumps off the board at them, all I really know is that if Baker just wants to be a Broadway Star that rookie throws a nice deep ball. Just got to get that over that pressure thing..
March 7th, 2024 at 5:41 pm
I’m of the the opinion that you take a proven nfl player over hoping a draft pick can replicate his stats…too many variables and busts to bank on it…if he’s affordable or anybody of his ilk u do it…i.e JPP, Suh, Barret etc.
March 7th, 2024 at 8:13 pm
Trade for Fields on his cheap rookie deal and you’d have a lot of money to sign guys and improve the team – in addition to getting the better QB.
March 7th, 2024 at 9:35 pm
Well Miami and Jacksonville both have pending fa d-linemen . One had 17.5 sacks last year . Kancy is gonna breakout this year . I believe he and diaby are both gonna be double digit sack guys . There will be many affordable guys better than JTS . The Bucs will have some cash leftover after Baker signs . I say address the D-line in free agency and the O-line in the draft . Either Graham Barton or Jackson Powers Johnson may be available .
As always GO BUCS
March 8th, 2024 at 4:08 pm
100% agree with you Joe. Jason go get Haason Reddick
