Tristan Wirfs Contract Negotiations Have Begun
February 27th, 2024He’s not a pending free agent, but superstar left tackle Tristan Wirfs is on the Bucs’ priority list, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht confirmed today.
Licht told Joe and assembled media in Indianapolis that talks are underway now for a new Wirfs contract. Joe will inject that it will be a massive contract for many years.
In one of the more pointed exchanges of today’s Combine festivities, Licht was asked about how the Wirfs deal would/could open up cap space for the 2024 season. Licht responded that a Wirfs extension would be about locking up an All-Pro player, not so much about free cap room.
Wirfs is slated to earn just under $21 million this season, all under the cap. That represents the fifth-year option on his 2020 rookie contract.
Smart stuff by the Bucs. The price, barring injury, will only go up on Wirfs and the Bucs believe he’s franchise cornerstone piece in every way.
Joe actually heard a member of the Bucs staff (not Licht) say today that Wirfs is the best left tackle in the NFL.

Without Wirfs Evans, and Baker don’t stand a chance.

Is he willing to do an Ohtani deal? A million a year for 10 years, and $500 million on the back end. I’m joking.

I would be willing to bet that Wirfs is right up there with Evans for teammates that Baker wants the bucs to keep.

@dbbuc711..
If you make that bet, sure you will NOT lose ….

Best decision ever made by the Bucs Brass. Best draft pick ever!

He is the best tackle period, he gave up those sacks because he got hurt and played through it

Im sure locking up Wirfs and Evans was a condition for Mayfield.
Left tackle is a QBs best friend. After struggling a bit in the first 5 games, Wirfs became a fantastic left Tackle.
One of the top 3 most valuable positions in Football (QB, pass rusher, left Tackle)
Great to see the Bucs paying to stay Champions!
Now we gotta get a Pass rusher, and hope YaYa makes a big step forward!

finally, the important ones!
sign the man!

Nice.
This should be the first signing this off-season. The Bucs will actually save salary cap dollars in 2024 by locking up their best player for the next 5-6 years.
Go Bucs!

Good news! Now Baker and Mike.

Extend Wirfs and sign Winfield. Future All Pros, great team players, and still young enough to play for years. Both guys are highly respected by their team mates.

We need pass rushers. Yaya was doing good but towards the end he wasn’t doing as good. Makes you wonder if teams figured him and. I hope he takes the next step this coming year but we can’t count on hope. We need to find a pass rush as bad as signing baker n ME13 maybe even more

6 years – $160M – $100M Guaranteed
Git – R – Done!
February 27th, 2024 at 8:44 pm
Wirfs will be killing it for the next 10 years
February 27th, 2024 at 8:47 pm
But, but, but…….
Why did we move Wirfs to LT?
He was doing so well as a RT.
It was such a HUGE gamble said all the ninnies.
😂😂😂

10 year deal. Give the man as much as he wants, but don’t cheap out on the years.
Wirfs can play another 10-12 years. Don’t let him hit the market in 5 years.
Ya-Ya was a rookie. Some late year slip is expected.
Look for best Center/Edge/TE in the first round. Don’t draft need, take the best athlete available at one of those positions.
WR in second round. Maybe also a DT. The draft is deeper at those positions.

Wirfs is not the best LT in the NFL. My BOY, My DUCK … Sewell is THE MAN!
Wirfs is pretty great. Just gotta throw a shout out to my Ducks whenever I can. Top ranked on PFF!!! Truthfully we’re just splitting hairs.
