Lavonte David Punts On Lobbying For Devin White
February 23rd, 2024Lavonte David talked about pending free agent Devin White yesterday.
The stage was David’s and he never said any form of “we need White back,” when referring to the Bucs linebacker he’s played alongside for five years.
David told WDAE radio that he’s close with White, “a big brother.” He said White sends him lots of horse-related information and is in love with horses, as many Bucs fans know.
David noted that he’s often on White to have some real fun rather than using all his free time at his stable. “Man, you’re young. You need to go out and go to an island or something,” David said.
The conversation did turn to football. David sounded almost reluctant to got there. “Unfortunately, a lot of things didn’t go [White’s] way this year as far as like injuries and all the off-the-field stuff.”
David added that White still has loads of passion and love for football and “will be back dominating the game” for whatever team signs him.

good riddance!

David has to much character to say anything negative towards White. I think we know how he really feels as far as “on the field” play.

White had a great game at Minnesota like he was out to get his money. Then he didn’t deliver much of the year. He had a huge incentive to deliver this year and he didn’t. The guy has tremendous physical talents but he’s just not a player. Good luck Devin.

If Diva has “loads of passion and love for football” – then why has he regressed the last THREE years compared to his first 2 in the league?
This is NOT about injuries!
Bowles would not have benched White in the manner he did if this was about injuries….
Lavonte David not taking up for his “little brother” is telling. Because LD54 knows the team is better off not paying White $15M or whatever he thinks he’s worth – only to make a handful of flash plays a year and be swallowed up by blockers or out of position or beaten in coverage more plays than not…..

Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard!
February 23rd, 2024 at 9:13 am
White had his shot.
Blew it.
February 23rd, 2024 at 9:33 am
DW needs a change of scenery, his head is messed up here
February 23rd, 2024 at 9:43 am
I was just reading about Lavonte and how he wants to remain or retire. Kudos to him.
However, Devin didn’t show us passion when he decided not to play. Bye bye to him.

The first 100 million dollar linebacker he is not.
February 23rd, 2024 at 10:04 am
He played great in 2020 and in the playoffs/Super Bowl but since then he’s been disappointing so adios and goodluck elsewhere
February 23rd, 2024 at 10:28 am
Would like to and will are totally different. Lots of players would like to retire from the team they started with.
If God tells David to spends two years at Miami to create a following for his post NFL Ministry He’s Gone.

White had the best mentor playing right next to him for 5 years. David was constantly coaching him and he still failed to get it. White is his own worst enemy. A nieve coach on another team will throw money at White thinking he can coach him up. Well, if he couldn’t figure it out with David on the field next to him and with a head coach in Bowles who was like a father to him…….. good luck new team. You are about to feel our frustration!
February 23rd, 2024 at 11:17 am
Playing next to a real NFL champion as your mentor? It dont’t get better.
He blew it.
Badly too!
Adios

Not to defend Devin the free lancer White, I aint trying to have someone tell me that you need to go out and have some “real fun.” Horses are fun for Devin. Thats his thing, let him do his thing. People looooooove the beach or the pool. I know my wife certainly does, but its fun for me for like a day then I get bored. All you’re doing is laying around and baking, id rather be lifting some heavy a – – weight and taking my car to sebring for open track day. Life isnt linear. I went to gasparilla and all I felt was that I was surrounded by dirty, disgusting animals with litter all over the place. Hell on earth, but im sure a lot of people had fun.

Only the Bucs coaches and staff know what’s going on with White. But he was a liability in pass coverage and didn’t get better, so he’ll probably land elsewhere unless he signs a low deal.
February 23rd, 2024 at 12:16 pm
Devin should go play for the Colts or Broncos.
February 23rd, 2024 at 12:47 pm
Maybe the Cowboys…
Since he likes horsies so much.

‘David noted that he’s often on White to have some real fun rather than using all his free time at his stable.’
Few of us ever get to know what REALLY drives folks. Back in Oct 2022 there was a very good article written by Brianna Dix on the Bucs website titled ‘Strength Manifested Through Tragedy: Devin White’s Origin Story’. Might be wrong, but it seems to give a glimpse of what drives Devin White. Worth reading.

Happily looking forward to his stagnated and ineffective tackling technique, he habit of overrunning plays, and his “I’m the greatest” attitude to another team. Thanks for the Super Bowl run great play, but glad you’re not coming back.
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:16 pm
LVD advocating for White? Are you kidding?
LVD IS DONE WITH WHITE!
The team put him in charge of babysitting that headcase. He’s tried so hard to turn White into a professional and White couldn’t do it. LVD is the biggest proponent of kicking White to the curb.
February 23rd, 2024 at 4:47 pm
He needs to get on his horse and ride outta here!
February 23rd, 2024 at 6:06 pm
I will say this, if David does indeed come back for another season, it is for him to helping out the Bucs. He knows White is good as gone and would not want to leave the Bucs hanging. I would hope if it went down this way, the Bucs could toss him some extra cash in the deal as a “thank you”
With that said, what is the old saying?… Getting rid of White would be an addition by subtraction haha

Devin should get with a sports psychologist. I believe be has the necessary talent but it’s clear he’s not there mentally to get the best out of himself. Good luck Devin!
February 23rd, 2024 at 8:56 pm
The Simple fact is that Devin couldn’t diagnose a play to save his life. Opponents figured out his habits and tendencies due to how predictable he is and just snuffed his attack. His ability to tackle is limited, he is easy to misdirect and short of shooting a gap right in front of him he was rendered useless once he lost a step in terms of speed, instincts and maneuverability. Then, the final nail for Bowles and the Bucs was his absolute inability to cover in passing. He is a liability in the passing game. He can’t cover, has no vertical and is useless tackling in open space. So our opponents would scheme specifically to get him in coverage and exploit him. He was responsible for far more busted plays than good ones. Check the receipts and you’ll see what I’m talking about. He was probably the single worst LB in coverage in the NFL this past year. Personally, I think his build limits his range of motion, ability to make cuts, etc.

i would to have him back i think he can play DE or outside LB todd bowles need to give dw one assignment n let him be great

BIG MISTAKE LETTING DWHITE WALK
February 24th, 2024 at 5:32 am
Jarrett. It’s been a big mistake not letting him walk much sooner. I said it years ago they need to get rid of him. The moment he said he wanted to be the highest paid lb in history. Money over production always equals problems. Every single time. Behavior is predictable. He will continue to be a problem. He obviously has a personality disorder at best. Not a good trait for a team sport. Adios

White proved he wasn’t a professional. He never improved his weaknesses and teams attacked him and he couldn’t hold his ground. Not enough “want to” or “dog” in his game. Playing linebacker in the NFL, especially in the middle is the key position to stop the run.
Winfield and other defensive backs were tackling running backs week in and week out. Where was White? Usually being blocked sideways and out of the lanes. Frankly, Britt is far superior vs the run and gets into holes and stands people up whereas White is knocked backwards.
Other than running down and pressuring quarterbacks when there is an open lane, he is a non factor on the defense. Had he taken his early success and refined his game he’d be a great player but there is something missing in his desire to play the game like LVD, Quarles, Brooks or Nickerson. All great Buc linebackers, too bad White didn’t live up to his high draft status. Bust for Licht on that one.
February 24th, 2024 at 8:16 pm
Personally I don’t get all the hate towards Devin White. He had one of the great postseason runs to help win a Superbowl. since then it may be injuries it may be his lack of work ethic or maybe his window is just that of most players where you get three good years and then your career is over or you are average enough to hang on for and play a few more.
February 25th, 2024 at 7:34 am
We’ll see Mr. White, again, soon enough. I project that he will sign with the Aints.
