Mike Edwards Remembers What Todd Bowles Did For Him
February 11th, 2024When the Super Bowl kicks off tonight at 6:30 p.m., there will be a distinct Bucs flavor on the Chiefs’ roster.
Four men who helped the Bucs win the Super Bowl three years ago, Mike Edwards, Blaine Gabbert, Donovan Smith and Justin Watson, will be wearing Chiefs red tonight.
Hey Chiefs, if you can’t beat em’ sign ’em, right?
So looking back on his Bucs days, ball-hawking, speedy safety Mike Edwards gave a lot of credit to Bucs coach Todd Bowles when Joe spoke with him last week at Super Bowl Opening Night at the Raiders’ Roomba in Las Vegas.
“He meant a lot,” Edwards said of Bowles, himself a former NFL safety. “He’s a safeties guy. We had some heart-to-heart sometimes throughout my four years. I took a lot from him, again, being a safeties guy and a knowledgeable defensive guy.
“I tried to take a lot of things from him. Take away little things from him. And I did take a lot from him.”
Edwards pretty much gives Bowles a lot of credit for him playing for his second Super Bowl ring tonight.
Joe would have liked for Edwards to have stuck around, but the Bucs were broke last year and some good players had to be let go. Edwards was one of them.
And if some Bucs fans want to dream, Edwards, who will turn 28 this offseason, is again a free agent this spring.

I always liked Mike. Impact player. Ballhawk.

Ya, he was a ball hawk for us. I hope he wins.

It’s funny to me because NONE of the 4 are the REASONS they are in the SB.
Not talking bad about them, just realizing how much the Chiefs are like the Patriots in their dynasty years.
All World QB and TE with a great defense and skill position players that seem to change every year.
I mean Patrick Mahomes made Watson look like he belongs when Brady casted him off after 2 pick 6s on weak out routes. Andy Reid found what he does “good”.
Just having second thoughts about Baker and Mike.
Yes I want them, but I would rather have what KC does.
The ability to move on from your favorite players and KNOW you are still gonna be competitive.
Now all we need is a franchise QB and TE and a defensive coordinator like Spaguolo.
I wonder when this guy will become a HC?
Im of the mindset that we need our next HC to be an offensive genius because IMO defensive coordinators are easier to replace, but if there is a single defensive minded guy out there I WOULD like it would be Spags.

We still have yet to draft a true John Lynch style strong safety despite drafting numerous talented FS like Winfield, Whitehead, and Edwards. I have yet to see that 6’2” 220 type strong safety that can help us in run and pass. Whitehead and Winfield are sure tacklers and can stop the run but I feel like we need a Ronnie Lot or John Lynch type of bigger strong safety back there next to #31.
Derwin James would be ideal

Sorry Spagnuolo.
Acting like I’m a Gen Zer and can type on my phone quick.

@Esteban85,
If Lynch was playing in today’s NFL he’d probably get fined 10 times a season for the type of hits he put on the opposition.
In addition to being a great player he was a great human being as well. I hope he gets a ring Sunday as a GM in addition to the one he got as a player when with the Bucks.

^^^^^^The Bucs, not the Bucks
Auto-correct got me. 😉

It will always boggle my mind how Licht thought Neal was an upgrade over Edwards. Guy was a ball hawk.

Of the 4, Edwards is the one I miss most….and I think the team misses the most. We could have used him in the secondary last year.

Edwards, stand up guy. Glad he is doing well.
February 11th, 2024 at 7:53 am
What are his statics captain

Edwards n whitehead two biggest losses in a while. Would of been great just to keep 1
February 11th, 2024 at 8:56 am
Mike was a great contributor to our team.
February 11th, 2024 at 9:04 am
Edwards only got $3 million, paid Neal $1.3 ..sigh
February 11th, 2024 at 9:12 am
That’s a worthy dream for sure. Imagine Edwards back there with Winfield!
February 11th, 2024 at 9:47 am
Much rather have Whitehead back than Edwards.
Edwards played really well in spot duty – but when he was a full time starter? Not so much….

Good player. Unintelligible quote. He took a lot and a little and lot from him. Okay.
February 11th, 2024 at 10:12 am
Pickgrin
Whitehead works for me as well. I take your point. Our defense is the puzzle that will take some real planning. Calijah and YaYa are great additions and I admire the growth of Izien and Zyon. Hopefully they continue their growth.
Davis and Dean are to big a % of the cap! If they’re stuck with Dean because of no cap relief at least cut Davis.

Mikes always styling with that signature blond dew.

Yes, I am waiting for KC to move on from Mahommes after this year.

Sodom and Gomarrah vs. an untalented satanic singer with small breasts and chicken legs. There you have it. A shame both teams can’t lose. Now the Lions and Browns ? That would have been a beautiful sight.

Both Edwards and Whitehead are free agents. Both should be considered to bring back. Neal was a disaster this year. Ideally Whitehead next to Winfield again would be amazing.
