Christian McCaffery Admires Lavonte David

Fond of Bucs “stud” linebacker.
Real recognizes real.
That is the case with 49ers running back Christian McCaffery. He is arguably the best running back in the game. If he stays healthy, it is not a stretch that he could be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.
So as CMC prepares for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Joe fought the Morning Zoo and Extra! types (one clown kept yelling CMC’s name [“Christian… oh, Christian!”] like a four-year-old girl) on Super Bowl Opening Night at the Raiders’ Roomba in Las Vegas.
There, Joe learned CMC is a fan of Bucs linebacker Lavonte David and enjoys watching him — so long as he’s not studying to prepare to play against David.
“He’s a stud, man!” CMC told Joe. “He is definitely somebody you always have to circle whenever you are playing against him. He’s smart. He’s physical. He tackles well. And he knows where to be.”
CMC was responding to Joe’s question asking why David is still such a problem for offenses at the age of 33 (David turned 34 hours after the Bucs were eliminated from the playoffs by the Lions).
One edge David has, per CMC, is he has a nose for a hole like a running back. CMC explained that good running backs have a knack for finding a hole and exploiting it. David, CMC said, has the same trait, only he finds a hole and plugs it.
“Linebackers are a lot like running backs in that sense,” CMC said.
But CMC mostly lauded David for being such a smart football player.
“Because he is so experienced, there are a lot of advantages to that,” CMC said. “He’s just an exciting player.”
Exciting until you have to play against him.

I was at the regular season game against the Lions this season and I remember there was a point in the game where Lavonte got juked and missed a tackle at the LOS, I turned to my dad and said, “man, Lavonte might have lost a step,” only for him to immediately follow it up with a sack and he ended up leading us in tackles that game. He ended up having one of his best seasons, and every game my dad would be sure to remind me after every play he’d make “remember when you said he was old?”

Lavonte is a stud! McCaffery has it going.
I watched a segment on McCaffery and how he got involved with the Logan Project. It is a poignant, so real, and shows what type of guy McCaffery is in and out of the field. And compliment from him can be taken seriously.

Praying we can get Lavonte for at least one more year. He’s one of the best ever but doesn’t get the recognition.

CMC appropriately admires David here yet, 2-3 years ago told #45 that he was “the best”, when #45 was miked-up?

BBB – 2-3 years ago D White had a trajectory where he could have been the best. He used to eat up CMC in Carolina. But obviously White fizzled out and it was especially jarring compared to the consistent excellence LVD has demonstrated.
Id be content to keep handing LVD solid 1-yr deals for life until it’s blatantly obvious he’s no longer at the same level of play. Hopefully that means another 2-3 seasons!

Love Lavonte, just got my 2nd David jersey in the mail this week! Pisses me off that others talk about Wagner, Warner and guys like that when David is one of the best linebackers of all time, stats don’t lie. I hope he comes back for at least 1 more year. Guy is still ballin!

Most criminally underrated linebacker of all time. He’s a hall of famer in my eyes. I think he goes one more year for us. Great presence in our locker room.

Lavonte David: The Donnie Edwards of This Generation
Lavonte David and Donnie Edwards were absolute beasts in the linebacker position. Despite serving as the backbone of their respective squads, these dudes are both criminally underrated. Delivering numerous jaw-dropping performances, it’s a wonder why both men haven’t gotten the recognition they truly deserve.
