Assessing The Value/Loss Of Mike Evans

Somebody needs to send this audio to Mike Evans’ agent.
“If the Bucs don’t sign him back, it’s their loss and somebody else’s gain,” former Pro Bowl receiver Keyshawn Johnson bellowed recently about Evans on FS1.
Co-host and Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin jumped on the Evans bandwagon in a big way, too. He said as NFL offenses and defenses further specialize, a guy like Evans is even more valuable.
“Mike Evans gives you that one guy that says when it all breaks down, throw it up in the air to him,” Irvin said. “I’ve been screaming Dallas needs one of these dudes that will go up and get any pass, anywhere, any time. I call them an area code receiver. They’re going to catch anything in the area code.”
Irvin says Evans has rare ability. “A big guy that can transition. A lot of times tall guys they can’t break down and come in and out of cuts real fast. … He’s so good at it,” Irvin gushed.
Johnson, known for his ego, had no problem admitting Evans is more of a big-time player than he was.
“Better down the field awareness than I did. He’s a much better down the field home run hitter than I was,” Johnson said.
It feels inconceivable that Evans would bolt in free agency next month, but it’s certainly possible.
Irvin took the Derrick Brooks approach: Evans and Baker Mayfield need to be a package deal or it’s probably not worth keeping either.

Then they could trade 1st round pick down a little , get more picks, and take that stud Oregon Center in 2nd round and a WR in 2nd round.

Evans isn’t going anywhere.
Bucs may let ME13 test free agency if his contract demands are north of $25M – but ultimately, Jason Licht is NOT going to allow his 1st and arguably best draft pick and the best Buccaneer offensive player in history to wear another team’s colors.

Top choices for Evans is Houston, KC, and of course Tampa. He shouldn’t consider anywhere else. He doesn’t need the money so he’ll probably take a small discount for these teams and play for between 21 to 24 million average.

He’s not going anywhere Licht is smart unlike a lot of these so called Buc fans, he’s worth spending the money on and is too reliable to let him walk.

Evans #1 priority is to play for a team that boost his HOF resume. He is two 1000+ seasons 10TD seasons from being a lock. Remember he has only played 10 years while most HOF receivers played 12 to 15 years.

Don’t forget the Jets in that list. They could really use a big guy to teach their youth and be hands for Rodgers long ball. Pretty sure the Jets were reaching out to the Bucs last year to try and snag him in a trade or something.

Really, without Evans, the Bucs offense will tank, regardless of who the QB is. Since coming to the team, Evans has been THE ONLY weapon the Bucs can count on. Without him, they might as well gut the team, stockpiling draft picks for a total rebuild.

Anyone talking about dropped passes and Evans probably has done little to no research. Last year Evans was not even in the top 10 for most dropped passes….

Mike is a great receiver no doubt, but he’s far from perfect and on the wrong side of 30.

You’re the one being sensitive about a few drops instead of being satisfied with the yards/td ratio. Wrong side of 30? 1,255 yards and tied for first in touchdowns at 13 but that’s showing signs of slowing down? Lmao. Also the Bucs can probably win without him but how many games? 4,5 or 6 maybe

I looked that up about a week ago trying to make a case if the Bucs were to lose Evans. I was a little surprised. Also, if you look at the WR1’s available coming up in free agency, Evans stands above them all. Higgins (Bengals) and Pittman (Colts) are the only two that come within reach of Evans, their youth is a plus for them. The only downer is Father Time running against Evans. I think he is savvy enough to change his game to compensate for his age, so SIGN THE MAN for the rest of his career. With his size and strength he might just be a possession receiver in the last years of his playing days, which is great to have also.

A the problem was those 7 drops were the worst possible times drops it cost us a couple of games don’t forget that in u r stats even tho I like him he even had a really bad offensive pass interference at the worst possible time

He is the heart and soul of our offense and like others have said, he’s shown NO signs of slowing down!

A better stat would be % of drops vs overall targets.
The problem isn’t wanting Mike to stay or not.
It’s just math at this point. A tough decision will have to be made unless Licht carries a bunch of void years AGAIN.
There isn’t enough money to go around. We need a QB so Baker will get his $35 million minimum. So then you have Winfield and Evans. Winfield isn’t going anywhere. Everyone knows that. After you pay those guys there isn’t much money to fill out the roster let alone pay ME $25 mill or more.
Take all that emotion out of it. We get it. He’s a ROH and future HOF’er. IMHO, he’s the odd man out. If JL can make it work…great. Just don’t want all that dead money again.

Great call @Lol. Anyone who harps on his drops don’t know football. Just like any profession, there are off days. Ints, fumbles, holding penalties, PI’s etc are part of the game. Mikes impact on the game in general far outweighs any drops he’s had. Appreciate this mans greatness. I’m honored to have watched him from freaking draft day to whenever he decides to hang em up. I just hope he hangs em up in pewter and red.

Resigning Evans is exactly what elite franchises do. 3 years for 75 million would probably get it done. The guy is still operating at a very high level so this should be an easy decision. Maybe jettison one of the two overpriced diva cb’s that are always hurt and replace with a future hall of fame WR1 that is the best offensive draft pick in Buccaneer history.
