Baker Mayfield, Tristan Wirfs React To Liam Coen Chatter

Free agent QB Baker Mayfield.
Joe’s good friend Rock Riley is out at Camping World Stadium in Lakeland-with-theme-parks (that was Scot Brantley’s description of Orlando) at the Pro Bowl practice.
Looks like Rock is enjoying a nice day.
Anyway, Rock spoke with Baker Mayfield and left tackle Tristan Wirfs. Each is on the NFC team. Rock got their reactions to the chatter the Bucs are trying to lure Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen back to the NFL.
Of course, Mayfield played for Coen for a handful of games in 2022 with the Rams. Wirfs apparently doesn’t know much about the guy.
Joe thinks this is a smart move the Bucs made, or are trying to make, in bringing in a guy who not only has worked with Mayfield but had success with him. That can’t hurt in their quest to re-sign Mayfield.
Remember, Mayfield’s career had hit rock bottom last year when he was turned loose by the Stinking Panthers. A high-profile NFL analyst was telling anyone who would listen to him that Mayfield was the worst quarterback in the league.
Then, Mayfield and Coen united successfully, which put him on Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s radar. And we all know what happened after that.

While the SB is the prize, the Bucs won it twice. The season is 17 weeks long. Nothing wrong with having ‘entertaining’ football and winning a playoff game or two.

This will be a big year for baker when he was with Cleveland he won a playoff game and the next year they didnt even make the playoffs after all the hype .

Doubt it was the 2-3 record and 4 TD’s and 2 INT in 5 games that put Mayfield on on the Bucs radar. It was Price and a decent QB with limited options.
Mayfield’s 2024 27 mil Market Value is based on Daniel Jones and Derek Carr Money. Perhaps there is one more team as dumb as the Giants and Saints. Not to mention those Brilliant Browns.
Mayfield might get it if there is a bidding war for him but I doubt he’ll draw that much interest based on 2022 activity.

Well, when none of your peers at the pro level want to work for you, there is always the option of those in the lower level (college) desperate to be brought up to the pros!

Chickster: Learn more about Mayfield before you make weak assumptions. Mayfield was 11-5 in 2020 and beat Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs. Then he came close to beating the Chiefs and making it to the NFC Championship. If his defense played just average that day they would have won.
THE NEXT YEAR he was injured. He completely tore his labrum and fractured his shoulder. How well would any QB play well with those injuries?
THE NEXT YEAR, THE BROWNS REWARD HIM BY TRADING HIM TO THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE!
This year he played well in the playoffs and came VERY CLOSE to making it to the NFC Championship. So don’t embarrass yourself by saying that this guy can’t win a SB.
How many SB’s has Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen won?!!
He’s in a stable organization for once and is still young. Give the guy a break already.

Chickster, is just a hater and obviously a casual fan to not realize baker fractured his should and tore him labrum and also had multiple dislocations of that shoulder as well. Baker is better than any qb that could be drafted. So just root for the team or don’t, but complaining ain’t gonna get you very far

Bucfan, I agree with you. That playoff game was wonderful to watch. Ok, it’s not the Super Bowl but while developing a possible SB TEAM it’s great to have some entertainment. Go Bucs!

Could have some impact, could not. I guess it depends on how much freedom Bowles allows.
If we’re still pounding the middle on 1st down, you know Coen is deep in the box that Bowles created for him.

Yep… when Disney got there in 1970, all of Orange county had like 200,000 in population… I was there. Orlando was heavily surround by citrus groves, farming and cattle.

Orlando WISHES it was Lakeland. Ive been all over the world. I chose Lakeland.

Everyone is slurping Baker. Joe, the media, some fans, etc. Overall he played well, but my feeling is that you don’t wine and dine and slurp a guy who has has one so so year. I would rather lose with Trask or a rookie. What a freaking ego!

I don’t understand the fans who are so sure we can’t win a Super Bowl with Baker Mayfield. Did they forget how Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl? Did they forget how Steve Young played like garbage before joining the 49ers?

They’re all working it behind the scenes. Baker wants to stay. Mike too. And they both know we need to sign Winfield this year and Wirfs next year to long term deals. And the kicker too but that’s much easier. The salary cap makes it a zero sum game and they know that. They’ll work it out.
