A mock draft on Jan. 23 makes Joe want to rifle a hammer through a window, but they’re out there and many more will be free-flowing soon.
Bucky Brooks, one of the NFL Network draft gurus and a former defensive back, fired off his first mock of the season today.
It might be the last Brooks mock Joe reads for a long time. Brooks says with the 26th overall pick, Tampa Bay will select Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman. He’s got a Mike Evans kind of body but may not have No. 1 receiver wheels.
Mike Evans’ age (will turn 31 before next season) and impending free agency pushes WR1 to the top of the Buccaneers’ needs list. Coleman is a pass-catching phenom with outstanding ball skills and leaping ability.
The Bucs are not drafting a receiver in Round 1 unless somehow they lose Mike Evans in free agency, which seems highly doubtful.
It’s very early in the predraft process, but Joe is confident general manager Jason Licht will return to the trenches for his first pick off the board.

Interior offensive line should be the Bucs priority, not a wide receiver. However, if Marvin Harrison Jr. is there at 26, I’d change my mind. In all seriousness, if a quarterback has time, they can pick a defense apart even with pedestrian receivers.

I don’t know enough about any of these college players but in that mock Edge Chop Robinson goes 2 picks later and I would certainly add him before a WR. Edge / OL / DB first 3 rounds.

Edge should be pretty high on the list the lack of production from the edge was triggering most the season.

I watched every game Keopn Coleman played in 2023 and he is over rated. Now if Rome Odunze falls to #26 then that would work. Better yet focus on the O-line or Edge players at least somewhere in the top 3 rounds.

Pass rush must be the priority. The Bucs are sitting at home because they can’t get to the QB.

Coleman would be a great pick in 1st round if he’s still available. Size and speed to be a great receiver.
There will be some good options available to pick a Center in 2nd round.

I think the Bucs are sitting at home because:
1) Head Coach
2) Interior OL
3) Pass Rush
In that order.

Without free agency happening IOL, EDGE, and TE are top three needs.
Other positions that need to be addressed are ILB, RB, and DB.

If I were Licht, I’d pick a WR if Evans goes. There will be a big hole to fill. And Godwin has dealt with a number of injuries the last few years, though he is a warrior. If I were the Packers, I’d draft a NT like Kris Jenkins to help plug up that porous interior line. And they draft right in front of the Bucs. So I think that is one team in front of the Bucs that I wouldn’t worry about much.

Whatever you gotta do Bucs, Take care of the EDGE. Either via free agency or the draft. But please get us a pass rush from somewhere next season.

The Bucs are not aloud to draft FSU or UF players because there’s a select few who forget once a player is drafted they no longer play for that school and now play for their favorite pro team.

Bonzai is right. We maxed out this year with Bowles through shear luck. A bad division and the free falling Eagles. He’s still not a good coach and proved it once again against the Lions. I would also let ME walk and take his crucial drops to another team. Same for Carlton Davis. With their savings, Bucs can address the Oline and Dline.

Helmet Hair Mel Kiper has Harrison JR projected going 4th! I’ve seen no mocks where Harrision is not top ten or even higher like Kiper predicts.
I do agree with you that he is the ONLY WR I’d consider drafting early because he is truly a generational player with great family lineage like Winfield.

Meanwhile…The QB did not lose the game…The coaches did not lose the game..the WR’s and drops did not lose the game.
The Bucs were clobbered in the trenches by a much more talented team in terms of their “big uglies”.
The Bucs need to go trenches first four rounds. They can pick up DB’s later…LB’s as well…they need another couple of freakish bodies on the DL to pair with Calijah, YaYa and Vita. They need a new Center and LG to stop teams from simply pushing the center of the line right back in Baker’s face or hitting White at the same time he gets the handoff.

I haven’t looked at the draft prospects, but why wouldn’t the Bucs use a 1st on a WR?
Godwin’s deal is up after next year, Mike will be a year older, and you need three WRs in the NFL in any place.
Obviously there’s other areas of need as well, but I think WR is certainly one of them, as you can’t always count on rookies coming in and being studs in year one. Ideally you’re drafting them a year early.
Now if the value isn’t there, then certainly, I wouldn’t reach to get someone – but if someone slips, locking up a WR for 5-years would be a very good thing.

I don’t think Bucs can sign ME and have enough to upgrade the Oline and Dline. They can always tag Baker and draft a receiver who’ll drop less passes than Evans.

Edge rusher, head coach, linebacker, guard, wide receiver and release Gage trade Barrett and maybe Godwin both are shot. Sign Evans, Winfield and Mayfield if he doesn’t test free agency. Bucs won’t tag him for 35 mil he would be a fool not to see what the market holds. Bucs would have to offer him at least 25 mil for two or three years to have a chance for signing him. If the Bucs try to lowball Evans he will probably test the market.

Jared Van Pran who is a mauler at center from Georgia at 6’3” and 320 lbs. in Round 1.
That will solve tons of problems with our interior offensive line play.
BTW, Johnny Wilson at WR from FSU is 6’7” and 230 lbs and he runs a 4.5 forty.
You can get him in the second.
Build the offensive line trenches first. .
Draft the best center with your number 1 draft pick.

BelleGlade Buc is right–here is a clip about Van Pran: He started 44 games for Georgia. As a senior, he was an All-American and took home the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which goes to the top offensive lineman in the SEC.***********good enough! just what we need, a Georgia center!

A receiver would be fine in the first but I wouldn’t take one at 26. A poor man’s Mike Evans doesn’t sound that great, especially.
Bucs can use help anywhere, but won’t be desperate anywhere. Best player!

Keon Coleman is a powerhouse that’s on our radar, no matter if Mike Evans stays or goes. Don’t forget Chris Godwin’s contract expires after next season.

Why? He only runs screens, crossers, and flat routes. With that limited of a route tree, I would be surprised if he goes in even the second day, and you want him as our 1st round pick?

So 5-6 WRs going in the first round of every recent draft are a lot of generational players? Harrison Jr is considered to be bigger and stronger than his HoF dad, and just as amazingly polished runner. Saying he is the only WR worthy in the first round is just ridiculous

I’ve been looking at a lot of mock drafts since the Bucs were 4-7. They can be broken down into 3 types:
1) Bucs take a DE/OLB. Most of these show Chop Robinson from PSU or Brian Trice from Wash. The other top 3 are off the board already: Turner from ALA, Verse from FSU and Laiutu from UCLA.
2) Bucs take a WR. Every one of these say thus pick is if the Bucs lose Evans or Godwin. Most of these have Coleman from FSU or the #2 WR from LSU or Wash. So if Evans returns, the pick will be something else.
3) Other outliers. There are a few mocks with the Bucs picking a QB, TE (if Bowers falls), G, CB or S. These are small numbers.
The majority of the mock drafts are #1 or #2.

Coleman should be a good nfl receiver but he’s more like Godwin than Evans. Either way, this isn’t happening if Evans and Godwin are both here for 2024.

Want to see more Trey Palmer before I can agree with picking another wide receiver in the first round. Also, think Otten will continue to get better, as well as Durham, who I think can compete for TE1 next year. So I don’t think we should waste a draft pick on a TE. I think OL, edge rusher, DL in that order

40+ year watcher of FSU games. I’m usually right about FSU players (except Winton I will admit).
I would say Coleman is a 3rd round talent. He just doesn’t have the deep speed and he is built a bit thin. He has missed some games in his college career due to injury. More quick than fast, he’s good (not elite) on jump balls… not anywhere near the talent of Mike Evans so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Only way we spend a first round pick on a wr is if Harrison Jr or Odunze is still on the board which they won’t be. Need an edge rusher, now if Brock Bowers is still there at 26 I would not mind Licht snatching him. Would be very interesting, trenches is the biggest of need. A good safety to pair with Winfield etc
