Lewis Eager To Get Started

The rookie nobody’s talking about, cornerback Myron Lewis, is fired up to see some action, and Joe’s not talking about wherever the players were off to last night after training camp officially broke. (Joe was combing the jail records in the wee hours and was very pleased to see there was no trouble like last year.)
Lewis, the Bucs’ third round pick, is expected to make his debut in Saturday’s blacked out Bucs-Chiefs game.
Per Stephen Holder, of the St. Pete Times, Lewis had a standout practice yesterday.
“I’m real anxious,” he said. “This is going to be my first official NFL game, even though it’s preseason.”
Lewis looked like a guy who was serious about making an impact during today’s practice at One Buc Place. Among his highlights was an interception of pass that had been tipped by Mack. Lewis corralled the ball and went the other way for what would have been a defensive touchdown.
I came off my break clean and actually caught it before it hit the ground,” he said. “Then, it was off to the races.”
Joe is as excited as the next guy to see Lewis, who’s been saddled with nagging injuries since joining the Bucs. Joe wonders whether he might actually get some reps with the first team defense, just to see what he can do.

This is the guy I’ve really been waiting for. A few years ago when he was labeled as a possible late 1st round talent because of his size/speed combo. My Lew is the PERFECT fit for the Cover 2 because he’s a sure tackler and one of the more intelligent and honorable guys coming out of the draft in awhile. I don’t think we’ve ever had 3 legit 6 foot corners who could flat out run and cover like I hope Talib, Lewis and Biggers can!

Can’t wait to see this guy in action! I hope the Buc’s put him in with the 1st team on saturday. Because from what I’ve read and heard about this guy, he sounds like a really solid young player with a lot of natural skill. I believe that he will definately be an impact player for years to come! Hopefully he won’t be to injury prone for most of his career. That is my only concern I have about him.

Both you guys are on point! With Talib, Lewis,Barber, and Biggers, we cold have a great secondary! They would match up 4 deep with any WRs! And that Is a good thing!

I’d like to see Talib/Lewis/Biggers play together to see what we have for the future. Barber doesn’t need preseason playing time. He’s older than Rah. I think he knows everything there is to know about playing CB in the NFL.

I agree guys. I sure hope these youngsters can sew up our secondary for years to come. I am really fired up to see our first Home Game. It is difficult for me to work this time of year. I have swelling on the brain & my head looks like a Football. I know Raheem made a lot of mistakes and may not be the most sharpest Coach on the planet, but I love his demeanor and he seems to have these players all fired up. If he can make them believe in themselves then they can win. It will be great to finally see Price & GMC together with Lewis in there. If the Bucs hit on all these guys starting and playing well through the season, it could get exciting. With better play, ticket sales hopefully will increase. Freeman needs to come out smokin with K2 & Williams. I’m stoked and can we get some more scantily clad babe pics posted before the Game. Yea Buddy, smokem if you got em.

I love the enthusiasm, and the excitement surrounding the young guys. I hope they all play excellent as well. However, I see the season (not preseason) playing out one of two ways…
1) These guys come out with a bundle of energy, play out of their minds, we win a few, but they dwindle at the end of the year. Getting used to a 16 game/17 week schedule against this caliber of talent is not easy for young first and second year guys.
2) These guys come out of the gates slow, learning the game, growing together but overmatched by NFL level players. As the season wears on, Morris keeps them encouraged and they finish strong as they learn more and get a cohesiveness.
Neither scenario plays out with us shocking the world and making a run for the big game, but both show promise to the future of this team. I will be real curious to see next year how many starters we have from this years and last years drafts. I mean, just look at the names popping up competing for spots.
Freeman, Stroughter, M Williams, Benn, GMC, Price, K Moore, Biggers, Lewis…. add the two before that and you’ve basically got everything but the O-line and Winslow, Ruud and Barber.

Like some one else mentioned, would love to see Talib, Myron and Biggers play as the primary CBs in preseason. Ronde is not going to learn anything new from preseason playing time anyway, he can already write a 500 page book about how to be a CB in NFL. When we see how these guys fare against starting WRs and starting QBs, we will know how far they are from being ready (does not apply to Talib of course, he was born ready).

Maybe Lewis, or one of the other young players, should take over the #1 slot on Barber’s side and let Barber play back-up. Barber, as good as he once was, has lost more than a step and cannot keep up with the elite receivers like he once could. Barber got burnt more than a few times last year. And had no interceptions. Now he is another year older.
None of us liked it when they cut Derrick Brooks & company. Yet Barber was kept because of his friendship with Morris. Barber should step back a little and teach the young guys how to do it. Like someone said, Barber could write a book about being a CB. It’s time for him move to back-up and teach these young guys all that he knows about the CB position.
