Raheem Showers Reggie Brown With Love

For those devoted few Michael Clayton lovers who cling to the slim hope of him being a Buccaneer next month, Joe is here to ruin your day.
At his Tuesday media powwow, Raheem The Dream was asked about wide receiver Reggie Brown, the veteran wideout the Bucs gave up a sixth-round draft pick for prior to the 2010 NFL Draft.
The head coach quickly became all smirks and smiles, as seen on the video at Buccaneers.com.
“A good route runner. I don’t want to throw the term around great, but he’s close to it without giving too many props,” Raheem The Dream said. “He’s a really good route runner. Today, he showed me some good mental toughness. …It was a depleted wide receiver crew. He went out there and took a bunch of reps as a receiver. He took a bunch of reps as special teams. Really showed some physical tough play. Showed some multiple receiver dimensions, as far as moving around from a Z to a zebra to an X.”
If Brown can contribute and be reliable and steady for Josh Freeman, then that will have been a heck of a trade by Mark Dominik.
Joe hopes Brown, at 29 years old, can shake off the rust of two unproductive seasons buried on the bench in Philadelphia.
That’s a big question mark.

I think The Dream is a Joe Madden type of coach; A great talent evaluator but a sub par head coach(allowing positional coaches to fill in the gaps)…. of course Dom is sticking his grill into that situation.

Hard to believe a guy could suck playing for Andy Reed, with Mcnabb as QB, then suddenly flourish under the Dream.
But, I suppose stranger things have happened.
Then again the Dream similarly gushed over the blocking icon last year prior to the 16 catch season.
We shall see.

Reggie Brown was running on a bum ankle the first year DeSean Jackson came in and tore it up. He was extremely limited that year. The next year, they brought in Jeremy Maclin, and Brown was even further down the depth chart. He was actually pretty productive (not top of the league by any means) for 3 years in Philly. From 05 through 07, he caught 43, 46, 61 passes for 571, 816, and 780 yards with 4, 8, 4 TDs. Not stellar, but very respectable. Better than any #2 guy we had last year. It wasn’t until his bum ankle in 08 that he started to lose out to the young WR group they were bringing in.
Don’t be fooled, he’s a good WR. A close friend of mine is a HUGE Eagles fan, so I see and hear lots of news about them all the time. Brown is good, just a victim of injury and youth. Philly is one of the younger teams in the NFL right now with 47 of 80 players on the roster being 25 or younger mostly brought in through the draft. This easily could be a steal for what we got him for.

I dunno BamBamBucs, the Eagles were pretty starved for wideouts for a long time and this guy never filled the void.
Now Santonio Holmes, theres a great talent for a fifth rounder.

If we wanted a talented WR with an attitude problem, we would of kept Bryant. Holmes cant play for the first 4 games of the season anyway.

C’mon sheep, Reggie Brown was a HUGE disappointment in Philly. So much so that they drafted WRs early in the draft in consecutive years b/c Brown was so bad. Finally the Eagles trade him to the Bucs for just a 6th round pick. Aparrently, a 6th rounder was the best offer the Eagles got or he wouldnt be here.
With that Said, I agree that he is better than everything else this team has at the position except Mike Williams.

Hopefully he can be the “Ike Hilliard type guy” this team needs……
A savvy vet who can run great routes, find the openings in the zones, and make the tough catch on 3rd down.
Having a reliable 3rd down reciever would keep defenses from consentrating on Kellen Winslow as Freeman’s favorite 3rd down target.

I just listened to the press conference and I’m pretty sure that zebra is a legit position because he mentioned it a few times. It could be the name of the 4th receiver in a 4 receiver set.
If you actually watch Rah’s pressers you can tell he has an excellent football mind.

Thomas, his numbers that BamBam posted do not lie. We will wait and see, but maybe our scheme along with the change of scenery is what this guy needs to redeem his career. Why are people that are looking forward to seeing if the guy still has it “sheep”? It is what it is, so you and Eric can pine away for Holmes, Marshal, TO, or whoever, but the reality is they are not here and they are not coming here this year. When Brown is successful for us, what will we be then?

We may also want to note that Joey Galloway was a beast for Seatle, but he had numbers close to Brown’s when he was in Dallas, and we know he lit it up here in tampa. Let’s see what he has before we decide how good or bad he is.

@Eric…LOL! Good point, but I would not put Reggie and Clayton in the same boat. Brown ahd a few decent years, Clayton had one monster year. Who knows about Ward, but I am afraid you may be right about him.

I agree with everything you said. My only gripe over Brown is that he’s too old to be “the future”, but then again, if he can do well, he could buy us time for Benn to develop.

Why would u sheep want another Ike, a 30+ sure handed vet? I thought that we were going a different direction.
I know Ike, trust me, Reggie Brown is no Ike, nor is he a Galloway, nor is he an Antonio Bryant – heck he probably isnt even a Quez Green or Reidell Anthony. He is a bust in Philly that had his job taken by two rookies and journeymen and was traded for a 6th rounder!
You sheep are amazing, you can spin the most ridiculously unlikely scenario into childish positivity.

Ike was my favorite Buc, next to Brooks. He was a cool dude and always had time for the fans, or a stop and chat. I miss him and was really hoping they were going to hire him as WR coach. I think he’ll make a good coach one day. 3’rd Down & Ike to go.

Ike came here off two strong seasons in New York. Reggie Brown is no Ike Hilliard. Besides, 3rd-and-Reggie sounds awful.
