No Active Player Is Out For Bucs-Stinking Panthers Game Sunday

January 5th, 2024

Injury report.

In a win-or-jump-on-the-plane-for-the-DR game, the Bucs are about as healthy as a team could hope to be in its final regular season game.

As Joe typed earlier, injured Baker Mayfield (ribs) will start Sunday when the Bucs face the Stinking Panthers.

If the Bucs win, they host a playoff game next week. If the Bucs lose, it’s clean-out-your-locker Monday. If the Bucs tie, they need help.

Must win? LOL Yeah.

All active Bucs players on the final injury report are listed as questionable despite Bucs coach Todd Bowles saying they are full-go. “Questionable” players include linebacker K.J. Britt (calf), who was limited in practice today, and wide receiver Trey Palmer (hip) also limited.

Other questionable players that practiced fully this morning are corner Carlton Davis (concussion), tight end Ko Kieft (shoulder), outside linebacker Shaq Barrett (groin), safety Kaevon Merriweather (thigh) and Mayfield.

I await the hype after they beat this team of scrubs. It will be a hoot pre playoff loss. But at leats we get a playoff game thanks to NFC South. Wondering if it will be Eagles? That would be good.

  2. Jmarkbuc Says:

Give Carlton Hargreaves about 20 minutes into the game..

  3. Lord Cornelius Says:

Hopefully we go off and use this as a tune up game. If we have a close game then I don’t know how to feel lol

  4. Obvious Says:

    I agree Cornelius,
But then you just never know what you’re gonna get in that box of “nothing to lose” chocolate.
The Panthers will either put in a “exhibition” type of easy out don’t need to destroy “myself for nothing” and we all barley get our jerseys dirty type game or….

They are disgusted with themselves and they want “a pound of flesh” no matter who was standing on the other side of that line and they want to be spoilers. And even though they truly Do Suck, they come in and attempt to blow up the draft pick that “they Don’t Even Own” !
Not to mention possibility costing us our QB. Meaning we won’t have the most qualified qb going into the 1st playoff game “maybe”. Hope not.
Let’s just hope they are ready to party in the Bahamas instead

  5. David Says:

Great. There will be no excuse if we lose to stinking Panthers. Toilet Bowl/Trash Baker should be dismissed immediately if we lose this game or get blown out in the first round of play offs.

Is it kind of funny how it takes a week or two for any Bucs player other than Baker to recover from an injury. Why ? Because trash Baker’s injuries are just mysteriously fixed by him with no clear indications.

  6. gofortheface30 Says:

Baker is ranked in the top 10 and in some cases top 5 of every single statistical category, and you have smooth brained bozos still high off of sniffing Bradys balls for 3 yrs thinking we should QB play comparable to the very most exception to the norm (greatest QB ever.) It is intellectually dishonest, patently brain dead to think this team would have been better off with a guy that couldnt even beat out Blain Gabbert for a back up job. You are HIGH if you think Trask would have even come close to the level of production Baker produced – not to mention being a personality that guys gravitate more towards. Cheers to you David, for continually making the internet undefeated with dumb opinions

  7. optimisticbucsfan Says:

“not to mention being a personality that guys gravitate more towards.”

I call total BS. You know them both personally? I don’t give a rats behind about Trask but this BS of yours is just piling on for no reason. No need to tear down some back up to build up Mayfield. It shows that you’re weak personality and self worth is tied to football outcomes. If I had to bet, you are a middling, Type B personality. Zero personal achievements or successes.

    How’s it feel?

  9. Obvious Says:

Well, you can’t claim Mayfield isn’t motivated Dave. He might be hamming it up a little but he DID take a nasty shot to the ribs. So he’s probably and actually toughing it out. You got to admire him fighting hard despite the odds stacked up against him getting far more hurt. They may Just Be targeting your favorite punching bag for real. And if he gets seriously hurt, what will you have to bitch about then? Could be a bad day for the complaint department….

We All know better than to think Trask or Wolford is more qualified at this point. My concern is, “is he the most able”? Probably not.

It’ll come down to what’s going on in the Panther locker room. I can tell you that much for sure. Could be time for a little psychological warfare! Maybe someone should start advertising nice vacations to choose from so their minds are “somewhere else”. You know, for the complaint department’s sake…

    Just playing with ya Dave.

Dave, you aren’t serious are you? Some days you make sense some days you sound like you are drunk or heavily medicated.. today you are really bad.

  12. Obvious Says:

One thing is For Sure. And I’m not a big supporter. You can’t claim Baker Mayfield is soft or a quitter..
Can’t claim that one. And THAT’S WHY the team might just rise above.

It would have been “just as easy” for Mayfield to sit it out. He’s going to get a job somewhere next year and “actually” he could take the “Easy Option” to protect himself.

HE’S NOT DOING THAT! HE’S RIDE OR DIE WITH HIS TEAM… I believe it’s “because of” a selfless act that they will punch above No Matter who’s on the other side line…

We will see. Could be good.

good to have the team at full strenth for the EPIC beat down that is coming!

This team limping through a cake schedule with a stacked roster does not deserve the playoffs. although it’s mainly on the coaching. I genuinely feel bad for most of the players.

Baker is ranked in the top 10 and in some cases top 5 of every single statistical category

    ——–

Baker is #16 in QBR with a 55.5 rating, which is #16 – middle of the pack, in a very bad year for QBs where tons of starters got hurt.

For reference, Winston had a 55.7 rating in 2019, even after losing Evans and Godwin and having to start Perriman and Watson at the end of the year. In fact Winston had a better QBR than 55.5 in four of his five years here.

Baker was literally the definition of mediocrity – and he just played the worst game of the year last week when he had everything on the line.

In any case, he’s got one more chance. Let’s hope he doesn’t blow it and the Bucs get their home playoff game, and Baker actually plays well and gets a W, if he does that, then he’ll probably be back for one more year.

  18. David Says:

    Baker fans;
Your trash mind is comparing the trash man to the GOAT again. Stats means crap whenever it relates to Baker. Why ?
    He hasn’t down nothing or won anything in NFL. His stats this year is slightly improved over his trash career. So What ? We haven’t even won the crappiest division in NFL yet with his ass. His TD to INT ratio has been inflated this year due to his rgarbage time TD’s and passing yards;

His stats and records still represent a journeyman with a slight improvement. He is a one and done journeyman at best.

Moron Baker Fans, can Bucs win a super bowl with your trash qb and toilet bowl with losing career records this year ? If the answer is yes, then either change your doctor or your prescription drugs.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Here’s the difference between me and David… while I have very little to no faith in Baker, I’m still open, slightly, to having my mind changed if Baker bounces back from his complete choke job last week, goes out and beats the Panthers, and then plays well and the Bucs win a home playoff game. If all of that happens, I’d be resigned to the fact that Baker should come back for another year, that he earned that right. And if he played well, in crunch time, and in the playoffs, maybe, in fact, he had turned a corner on his career. To be clear, I don’t believe he suddenly changes his ways after 5 3/4 seasons – but maybe, and again, he’d have earned his 1-YEAR extension.

But, if Baker chokes the playoffs away, or if Baker does win on Sunday while looking like trash then goes out and embarasses himself and his team in the playoffs, then the Bucs should have the ‘we wish Baker Mayfield luck in his future endeavors’ press release ready to.

I think that’s as fair as it gets.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … ‘If all of that happens, I’d be resigned to the fact that Baker should come back for another year, that he earned that right. And if he played well, in crunch time, and in the playoffs, maybe, in fact, he had turned a corner on his career. To be clear, I don’t believe he suddenly changes his ways after 5 3/4 seasons – but maybe, and again, he’d have earned his 1-YEAR extension.’

A 1-year extension? Do you honestly believe he’d re-sign with the Bucs on a 1-year extension? He came here to revive his career. Has he shined for all 16 games thus far? Nah. Has he done enough to get SOMEONE to sign him to a 3 or 4 year contract? Oh ya. I could see a team like Atlanta chomping at the bit to get him in the fold. They’ve got a very good defense now, 3 excellent RBs (Robinson, Algeier & Patterson), a couple of very good TEs (Pitts & Smith), and with a little work they could beef up their OLine & WRs to be a contender in just 1 off-season. They desperately NEED a decent game-manager QB to pull it all together, and Mayfield is probably in their sights.

I don’t see Baker re-signing with Tampa Bay next year. We don’t have the $$$ to pay him what he’ll be asking, and I doubt that Licht is willing to commit to a long-term relationship there (Bowles would in a heartbeat IMO). JL has too many other NEEDS to work with far too little salary CAP space.

  22. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Fair enough Rod Munch. I’m a realist, I like Baker’s game but i admit he isn’t the greatest ever, and when he tries to play hero ball it doesn’t always work out. But, he’s good enough to take a good team to the peak. Look at Matt Stafford, the knock on him was no playoff wins. Lamar Jackson is a “choker in the playoffs”, but i figure the Ravens will get a Lombardi. This team is a lights out edge rusher, dominating center and a safety upgrade from flying with the big boys

I think people, when there’s change that’s gonna take place, people are gonna come in—and as I’ve always stated and I’ve stated it to the players—they’re gonna look at: How did you play those last games when the adversity was at its highest? And I always say, that says a lot about a player . . . and a coach. So, we got a lot at stake on this game.”

Players playing for jobs next season in Carolina or elsewhere.

  24. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Defense rules, I think Licht will offer a team friendly 3 year contact heavy on incentives with an out after year 2 if Baker regresses. I figure ME will get pretty much the same, because he’s friggin awesome but sometimes 30+ year old bodies break in the NFL. Winfield long term contract, White tests the market and Bucs might match if the dollars are right

  25. D-Rome Says:

I call total BS. You know them both personally? I don’t give a rats behind about Trask but this BS of yours is just piling on for no reason. No need to tear down some back up to build up Mayfield.

Both players and Bucs officials have implied through numerous public statements Baker is a better fit with the team this year than Tom Brady was last year.

  26. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Rod Munch-
…and if Baker wins a playoff game, does he merit a contract extension in the $25-30 million/year range?

  27. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

    Rod and David…..
All year long, we’ve had to listen to the two of you (and others) disrespect Baker Mayfield as if games are won and lost by the actions of one player. I guess you need to be reminded that football is a team sport.

I don’t recall Baker getting a penalty for a false start or for holding. I don’t remember Mayfield running up the middle for 1yard on first and second down. Remind me of when the quarterback missed a block on the linebacker that would have sprung the running back for a big gain.

And don’t forget that Baker hasn’t sacked an opposing quarterback once this year. And that he insists on lining up 5yards behind the first down markers. That he forgets sometimes that he’s playing tackle football and the opponent isn’t down by touching his shoulder pads.

And remember how Mayfield saved the timeouts until the end of the game so he could use them instead of running time off the clock while we were ahead?
    He sure lost that game.

The last time I checked, there are 53 names on the roster.

And David, please give up the cutsie nicknames you use. What are you, 13?

  28. David Says:

    Here we go again Baker trash fan says;
“Baker is a better fit with the team this year than Tom Brady was last year.”

LOL. That comments says it all about how trash Baker fans are. Bashing Trask is one thing but bashing the GOAT is the dumbest ever. They even comparing trash Baker now to Matt S. and Lamar J. , and Josh A. They are giving us discount on the house. LOL.

    Baker fans;
Your trash boy with his daddy, TB will be gone at the conclusion of this season either by losing to Panthers to get blown out or even lose in the first round.
The only way they could be retained is to win the first round of playoffs at the minimum.

  29. HC Grover Says:

    Jump in the line

  30. David Says:

Wow, these trash Baker fans are throwing $25 to $35M a year for Bucs to re-sign Baker after his crappiest game this season.

    No, Baker fans;
X-Mas is over. No more gifts are handing out. Baker/TB will be gone for sure with a loss to Panthers or a loss in first round. Bucs will not have a HC/losing qb with career losing records for the second year as the GM played a cheap crap shoot and didn’t payoff or broke even.

  31. Kidfloflo Says:

David, what I think u meant to say was why is Baker the only one willing to sacrifice everything to get this team to the play offs! His own body included

  32. Tom M Sumner Says:

If the team is healthy, like when we played the Jags, they have a chance against any team….

  33. Kidfloflo Says:

U people are funny…if any other QB, draft pick included took this team off the mat, where prognostication was 4 wins, takes them to a division title, throws for 4000 yards, AND wins a playoff game, then and only then will u say he is a decent QB!?? If anybody else did that u would be banging the table to sign him to a long term contract! Unreal

  34. TheBucsAnthem Says:

  36. Drunkinybor Says:

This season is turning into hey we’re pretty good to we are horrible. If we’re back to the lost decade we will be down by 21 in the first quarter. This game is a absolute indictment on Todd Bowles and it’s important how we won. If we squeak by and get blown out in the playoffs blows is gone. If we blowout the Panthers and either show up in the playoffs and barely lose he might stay. Time will tell

  37. Popcorn Mike Says:

Don’t worry TheBucsanthem the Bucs will win this one. Bowles is gone and the next HC may not want Mayfield as his QB if they don’t end I say they because the entire defense hasn’t good for the several games, this is Bowles area and Mayfield has been good but he’s had his moments too

GO BUCs, get out front early and get out of your own way.

  40. Joe in Michigan Says:

David, aka Davey Downer: You are expected to watch football, understand football, and have some basic knowledge of football before you’re anointed as a QB guru. I know you and Oneilbuc think “y’all” know everything there is to know about the QB position, but sorry to say, your posts give “y’all” away as a frauds.

  41. m milligan Says:

  42. Joe in Michigan Says:

The reason we know Davey Downer and Oneilbuc are frauds? They talk trash about any QB that isn’t Kyle Trask. What has Trask done? Frauds.

  43. Since76 Says:

Rod munch I agree with you. I now have little faith in Baker but am willing to hope he plays better. I thought the light went on with Baker the last two games. Canales also. But then the light was off this week again. Week 15 mind you. Everything on the line. Baker chokes. Against a defence worse than ours. In how many seasons does it take to get the same results to say…….he’s a good back up. Nothing wrong with that. He will never have to work again with that money. I just don’t see enough out of him. A good back up though.

  44. m milligan Says:

    Correct Joe,

  46. m milligan Says:

He’s is currently eligible for all 4 incentives under his contract,

Wonder how in this woeful season he pulled that off, TB front offense must be idiots to throw out such criteria and cost them 4 mill.

    GO BUCS

  48. Rod Munch Says:

    Defense Rules Says:
A 1-year extension? Do you honestly believe he’d re-sign with the Bucs on a 1-year extension?

    ———

I’m saying that’s all I’d offer, and wouldn’t care at all if walked. I’d much rather go trade for Justin Fields on a cheap contract, or just start a proper rebuild. In any case, they have to first sign Evans, then worry about the QB, because as we’ve seen, Evans can make any QB, even Mike Glennon, look good.

The last thing the Bucs should consider is getting hooked on some terrible contract like the Saints have with Derek Carr, because that’s what Mayfield is at his best. There’s literally no upside, and tons and tons and tons of downside.

But lets see what happens on Sunday, and what he does in the playoffs. If he plays lights out and gets the Bucs to the Super Bowl, then I’ll be open to a multiple year deal – which of course would be a terrible deal for the team, but that’s what winning gets you.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

    ———-

Well, I’ll defend Baker slightly and point out the Panthers have a really good pass defense, and have given a lot of QB’s a hard time.

But if Baker is supposed to be a franchise QB, there literally shouldn’t be any doubt that he can take care of the worst team in football with a home playoff game on the line.

If Baker can’t get that done, then he shouldn’t be here, since the NFC South isn’t always going to be the worst division in all of sports that you can win by just showing up.

    ——

If he can win a playoff game while looking good, then yeah, he’ll get at least that much, and it will be deserved.

I do think Baker fans (not the Baker Bois who are insane) are overvaluing him quite a bit thinking he’s going to get $40m/year on a multiple year deal. I can’t see other teams actually bidding his price up when he has such a terrible track record, but if he’s a star in the playoffs and wins multiples games, then that would change things for sure.

It’s all on him now, and every alpha franchise QB I’ve ever heard of wants that pressure.

However the Bucs have to actually get into the playoffs before any of that stuff happens.

  51. optimisticbucsfan Says:

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Buckeyebuckchuck … Good analysis IMO and I agree with your predictions, with emphasis on the words ‘TEAM FRIENDLY’. Folks don’t realize yet just how bad 2024 will be in terms of our salary CAP situation, but they will in a couple months. Probably one of the biggest reasons why Todd Bowles will get another year: he’s under contract and no other name HC would touch this situation with a 10 foot pole.

I predict that we’ll lose Baker because of $$$ (I’m thinking to Atlanta, but just a guess) and very probably Mike Evans too (this is almost surely his last BIG contract, he’s set himself up perfectly, and we can’t match the big spenders). Our priorities will be Winfield and Wirfs (who we can keep by ponying up $18.6 mil for a 5th year option as opposed to paying his signing him to a new contract at a Market Value of $28.1 mil). Still, that $18.6 mil counts in its’ entirety because its the 5th year. That hurts.

Milligan- you know why your upset. I do. Truth hurts but try to contain it. People are giving their opinions. To me his stats in the game suck. Garbage time after saints were running out clock isn’t worth incentives in my eyes. But if he gets the 4 mil good for him. Doesn’t change the game score.

  57. heyjude Says:

Can we have a blow out game against the Panthers and not have a nail-biting one? Please. There should be no reason not to now. And hopefully none of our players are having photo-ops and interviews on NFL Fox beforehand. Last week Baker was interviewed by Fox and the game was terrible. It’s like some type of jinx.

    @Woodenman

Good catch. I was wondering if anybody would call out the reality. You can count on I’d be strapped up to for an extra 3 million! You can bet your arse on that’s the “actual reason”. Still, the young guys on the team will buy into it because they are just grateful and happy to be anywhere on the field and seeing him tough it out for reasons youth doesn’t focus on yet, is a GREAT motivator for them regardless.

    GREAT CATCH though Woodenman.

  62. Tony marks Says:

Just so there isn’t any lying claim all baker fans are calling for 40 mill and long term. I haven’t seen many people weiging in on that. Off season will take care of itself

As it stands now 40 Million seems too high for me – not where the Bucs are in cap . Can he get it? Maybe but I’d have to see a good second round playoff game from the bucs. With older talent like Mike signed you shoudld be in contend mode to tie up another 40 million on top of that.

There will be no real contention regardless unti the secondary is fixed.

Bear in mind teams wth no inocme tax don’t just have an advantage on salary income but no state income tax applies to off the field income as well.
