Bounceback Game For Derek Carr?

December 31st, 2023

Rebound?

Look, Joe thinks the Bucs should beat the slimy Saints. But there is a reason it is hard to sweep teams in the NFC South. And one reason is the following.

The Bucs stomped the slimy Saints and Derek Carr in Week 4 and Carr had an atrocious game. Joe doesn’t believe Carr will be that bad again today.

How bad was Carr? Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis breaks it down.

He threw for just 127 yards and a season-low 3.4 yards per pass attempt.

Carr averaged just 0.5 air yards per completed pass in that game, his fewest in a game this season.

60.9% of his completed passes in that game were behind the line of scrimmage, the highest rate for a quarterback in a game this season.

On throws past the line of scrimmage in that game, Carr was 9-of-22 passing.

Also, remember that Carr was beat to hell entering that Week 4 game.

Since then, the Bucs pass defense has plummeted to the point that Tampa Bay now possesses the worst pass defense in the NFL.

Given the facts it’s reasonable to expect Carr to play better today and the Bucs pass defense sucks (when you are last in the league, you suck), Joe doesn’t believe it is unreasonable to expect a closer game than when the Bucs won by 17 in Lincoln’s Tomb.

Hopefully the Bucs win the division title against the team that had been there stumbling block for years!

That said, I seriously believe the Bucs will have to play up to the same standard as their past 2 games in order to get the win… Don’t regress today!

  2. Bucsfan951 Says:

“Bobby, why don’t you believe in Todd B after this win streak? Why are you still not confident at all in him?”

The defense… that’s why. Dude is the defensive coordinator and they just suck.

  3. J Says:

Carr maybe due for a good game, but Saints Oline has played poorly, and now one of their best lineman is hurt. Not sure Carr gets the day he’s due

Joe” what an article, do you have your money on the saints? it sure does sound like your expectations are that we are going down.

  5. Dave Pear Says:

There is a two word reason why the Bucs pass defense is historically bad.

    Todd. Bowles.

This is one of the two games that caused me to be concerned in the stretch run.
They have given our QB’s fits by rushing up the middle in past years. Baker needs to be careful to not offer up any batted balls, and protect his receivers so saints don’t have any chance to put our players out with dirty hits.

  7. Pewter power Says:

With this pass defense yea he could easily throw for 300 yards by halftime and they’d still lose. Chose wrong Carr he couldn’t see the ship was sinking only dollar signs. Career is going in the buddy

Time for the secondary to put the big boy pants on!

    Go Bucs!

    Lincoln’s tomb?
They’re not the slimy Saints…they are The AIN’Ts

Last in the league. Huge mistake giving the 2 porcelain doll corners big money.

I thought our head coach was a defensive guru. Apparently, not so much.

Very true. Also sad, because talent is there but it does no good to anyone in street clothes on the sidelines. My guess is the one that gives us the best cap relief next year is gone unless they both have the “If you want a job, here’s the new deal” kind of meeting after the season.

The negative Joe wrote this article!
To bad both joes can’t be positive at the same time.

    Downer Joe at it early

  15. Leighroy Says:

A lot of people ready to fire Bowles over passing yards forget that the defense is 11th in the league in points allowed.

You remember points, right? Those numbers on the scoreboard that actually matter…

An earlier commenter said that he was told by an Aints person that the team has quit. I sure hope not. Any team can beat any other team on any given game day. I’ve seen enough of it over the years. I want the Bucs to win cos they’re the better team, not cos the Aints have decided to roll over, and belly up.

  17. Beeej Says:

If every time the other team gets the ball they march down to the 11 yard line in a 9 minute drive, THAT is little consolation

  18. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

Carr’s been getting the ball out of his hands quickly this season but those quick passes aren’t his strong suit. He thrives, like most QBs when he has time for intermediate to longer routes to develop. He hasn’t had the patience (maybe a little shell-shocked from getting so banged up) or he hasn’t had good enough protection.

With YaYa and Kancey adding some spice to our pass rush, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him develop a case of “happy feet” today. If we can be physical with their TEs off the line and play more press coverage to take away the quick throws, we should get some sacks and possibly see a bunch of bad throws for picks or 3-and-outs because Alvin hasn’t been much in the running game. If Gholston is healthy we don’t lose anything in our run D when he rotates in so we shouldn’t have to be so focused on that aspect. Focus on coverage.

I expect to hear Nelson’s name called a few times too since Shaq is out. He’s always good for a couple of impact plays when he’s getting snaps.

Our DBs need to step up and our O needs to get off to a fast start and put the Aints in a hole like we did to Jacksonville last week. Do that and our big guys on D will feast.

  19. Buccos Says:

The Bucs have only given up 21 passing TD’ and have 13 INT’ which are both decent numbers, middle of the pack. If you go just based on yardage allowed then yes they are last but in the other categories they are at least average

  20. Mr. Editor Says:

The Bucs can take advantage of key injuries on the Aints side and win this game. We all know that our beloved team often allows second string/no name players to play like All Pro, All World, Hall of Famers for one day. It’s a Bucs life! I worry about Olave on third down. Still, I am optimistic about a win. The fans have to show up and make lots of noise. Go Bucs!

    Welp

20-0 Saints. Our defense isn’t playing well and Mayfield gives fans something to think about. Does anyone really want to see our Bucs get humiliated again in the first round of the playoffs? Please get rid of Bowles and Mayfield. Too inconsistent.
