Betting The Bucs

December 30th, 2023

Two intriguing betting looks for Sunday’s Bucs-Saints game as many of Joe’s comrades are enjoying newly-legal sports wagering in Florida.

First, Joe will point to the dreadful Buccaneers running game, worst in the NFL in yards per carry. Against the Saints in Week 4, Tampa Bay running backs combined to run 24 times for 72 yards, a sad 3.0 yards per carry.

Will they improve tomorrow?

As a barometer, Joe is looking at what happened in the two Bucs-Falcons games this year — as in can playcaller Dave Canales make quality adjustments the second time he faces a team.

In the first matchup against the Falcons’ good defense, Bucs running backs ran 17 times for 41 yards, a terrible 2.4 yards per carry. In the second game? Tampa Bay RBs went 33 carries for 142 yards. Huge improvement.

Joe is looking for similar improvement tomorrow. The over/under prop bet for Rachaad White’s rushing yards against the Saints is 62 1/2 yards. It’s 15 1/2 for Chase Edmonds. Joe doesn’t love this bet, but it’s a safe wager that White will take 20-plus handoffs. He’s had that many in each of the last four games.

So if you’re like Joe and think Canales will have a few tweaks to make White more successful in the rematch against the Saints, then throw a few bucks at White hitting the over.

On the receiver front, Joe is very dialed into Chris Godwin busting his over/under for the game, which is 55 1/2 yards. Godwin needs 108 yards to reach 1,000 for the season.

Don’t think for a second that Godwin, Mayfield and Canales are unaware of that. When Mike Evans is in striking distance of 1,000 yards, the Bucs magically tend to feed him the ball. Joe expects the same for Godwin tomorrow and has put money on it. It also helps that Godwin has been hot lately and the Saints are without Marshon Lattimore.

I’m still pissed were only allowed to bet through one sportsbook.

  2. unbelievable Says:

Personally would bet the under on White, and the over for Godwin.

(Though I hope I’m wrong about White)

    Go Bucs

  4. Bill in Seminole Says:

Rashad White’s receiving skills as a RB reminds me of Michael Pittman, back in the day. In 6 years as a Buc, Pittman had 3,362 yards rushing and 2,361 yards receiving. On 3rd and long, Pittman was available as an extra receiver, a lot like White.

Now, if the Bucs will use White as both a rushing and a receiving back…and stop trying to run him up the middle.

Slippery slope Joe when dispensing with the betting advice. Careful my friend.

We will clobber the Stainks. Bet the Ranch. SB money is on the field.

  7. Jack Clark Says:

Wow this has really been a rollercoaster ride for Bucs fans this season. Reminds me of watching Jamies Winston throw 3 interceptions and 4 touchdowns to win a game. I think our coaches have figured it out and will continue “doing what works and throwing away what does not work”

  8. Woodenman Says:

I am betting unbelievable will be Wrong$!!!!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There should be no question that Godwin will be the beneficiary of Lattimore’s absence…..Saints will have to pay extra attention to Evans.

I like the over on White…..th-ink he’ll break one tomorrow.

  10. unbelievable Says:

@Woodenman – nothing would make me happier (besides getting the win of course)

  11. Proudbucsfan Says:

What would be really great is if Godwin, Evans and Rachaad White all went over 100 yards. Does anyone know when the last time that happened for the BUCS ? I’ve been a Bucs fan for a long time but don’t ever remember that happening.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

If Lattimore was playing, I’d take the OVER in passing interference yards.

Remarkable all the dummies over the year that talk about him shutting down Evans, when the piece of garbage literally gets like 50 yards a game in PI calls.

I don’t bet-period. No interest. My old man has a pal down in Costa Rica who built a career off off-shore gambling (legit, BTW). He said Bucs were favored and most gamblers wouldn’t bother with this one. Interesting, huh?

  14. infomeplease Says:

Joe must have forgotten to mention that nothing is for sure so please only bet what you can afford to lose. Not more!!!! Sh!t happens!!!

  15. Darin Says:

Oh boy giving betting tips from the heart to the masses. That won’t end well

  16. Dave Pear Says:

Joe just said what he’s doing. He didn’t tell you to go bet. If someone does bet and loses and blames Joe, then we’ve descended beyond the point of no return as a society.

Someone meet that David lunatic away from the sports book.

  17. Dave Pear Says:

    *keep that David away

Getting in bed with gambling and the gambling associates. i.e., the MOB, will ruin professional sports. What happened to the simple “love of the game”?

    Proud buc.
It’s never happened for Tampa have 3 over a G

  20. SlyPirate Says:

Talked to a guy that works for the Saints

As he put it, “The team has quit.” The players are just showing up and going through the motions. Zero belief in the coach and Carr, “Is a weak leader.” Bucs will win this by a landslide.

  21. Dave Pear Says:

Bucs were supposed to beat Carolina in game 1 2022 by a landslide after they fired the big headed dwarf as their head coach. Panthers spanked the Bucs, physically. Bucs were supposed to slaughter the Panthers in game 1 this year after they fired Reich. Bucs won by the skin on their teeth in an ugly but typical Todd Bowles display of underachievement.

The more of these news blurbs that come out about the Saints sucking and expecting a Bucs romp, the greater the chances are that the Bucs do the Bowles special, come out flat with a poor gameplan, letting receivers run wide open while playing 10 yards off the LOS in Todd’s famous “zone bust” pass coverage scheme.

    Just win by a point.

Just win. Up to the Bucs player-leaders (not named Diva White) to set the tone and hold the vulnerable accountable.

I think one article should be dedicated to betting trends on the bucs and prop player bets weekly! Nice touch Joe…it’s legal and huge and interesting to see what we all are leaning towards

  26. garro Says:

I realize this is your bank account talking Joe.

Too much gambling in sports already!

It already influences games, fans, and players, too much and is bound to corrupt some folks if it has not already. I have known folks to lose homes and families over it.

    Go Bucs!
