Another Drop For Michael Clayton
August 16th, 2010If feels like piling on a beaten man, but Joe can’t just skip it.
The first pass that came to blocking icon Michael Clayton was dropped on Saturday night in Miami.
Fourth on the depth chart entering the game, Clayton didn’t get it done. It appared the pass from Josh Johnson hit him in the hands.
The Bucs can’t possibly hold any hope of trading Clayton. And he’s got no place on the Bucs barring a catastrophic rash of injuries.
For Clayton fans, Joe suggests you shout him your well wishes and tearful goodbyes on Saturday at the preseason home opener.
Joe wonders whether Clayton will ever play another regular season down in the NFL?

Who do you think was Mark Dominick’s better 1st year signing? Clayton or DERRICK LARD??
August 16th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
I understand the desire to see him go…I really do…and I wouldn’t mind seeing him gone. That said, the Bucs would have to pay him either way…so all it would do is clear up a roster spot.
So the question becomes, who else can fill that spot, and is that person at least a good blocker and worth a portion of the loss (MCs salary)?
I bet, if we released both Claytron and Stovall, we could find a WR off wavers that would at least have potential.

When I saw that drop, I immediately thought of the commenters on this site. I knew we would have a field day with that one. I’m actually suprised it took this long to bring it up.

@WESTAMPA
You bring up a good point. I would say Ward was the best one, simply because he’d actually had a proven track record before coming here, justifying the risk.
True, it hasn’t worked out yet. In some ways, Ward reminds me of our old backup (darn it his name just popped out of my head; the former wife-beater). Remember when he first come here? He made the same bonehead runs and went down easy. Eventually though, he got better.
Also, right now, Ward isn’t getting a lot of starting reps. It’s possible he could do better behind the starting line (although we might doubt the liklihood).
Claytron, other than fantastic blocking, has no other real use…and his influence on our young guys worries me.

@Pete, Stovall has a strong connection with Freeman. No way we release him. I really cant believe that was just suggested..
And along the lines of Ward? Trade him. Get a 5th rounder or something. all he’ll be doing is taking Huggins/Caddy’s carries. We dont need him, and I’m sure another team would be willing to take him on.
Oh, and yes, its time for Clayton to walk the plank.

When Michael Clayton droped that first pass, I could hear all the Buc fans let out a shrill cry.
August 16th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
Maybe Buffalo would be interested in Ward. I hear Spiller is gonna see a lot of action with Fred Jackson down for 4-6 weeks and Marshawn Lynch also hurt (and possibly out 4-6 weeks). They could possibly be looking to add someone to temporarily fill in behind Spiller. Anything we could get for Ward would be a good thing.

BamBamBuc
I totally agree. Getting anything for Ward would be great. Though, I don’t really even see the Bills, let alone any other NFL team, trading anything away for Ward.

“I DARE somebody to write an article about why Clayton is on the team again”
Remember, this guy is Rah’s very best bud.
August 16th, 2010 at 1:47 pm
I feel bad for the guys; because he is a good person (one of only two Bucs that came to the sidelines to greeted Bucs fans last game, just sad). Hopefully he gets it together and helps this team, but I really doubt it. Good Bye Clayton.

Nice Hellboy work Joe, finally checkout the Rays site. Fun stuff.
Clayton’s horrible. It’s really an embarrassment to the uniform at this point.
August 16th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Honestly I thought Johnson threw that pass too high for a short pass not giving enough time for Clayton to leap and make the catch comfortably.
August 16th, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Signed* The best bud that hold the *other slot?? Cmon now lol.
As far as who was the better signee well there’s no way anyone would have thought ward would have busted so bad. He was one of the hottest running back FA’s at the time and every analyst was on our jock about how great our RB’s would be with him in the mix.

Joe- Is there a reason I can’t post more than four lines on here? If my post is past four lines across it simply doesnt post.

No idea why.
Try writing in a notepad document and then pasting it in the comments field.
Also, try using Chrome. Sometimes WordPress is buggy with Internet Explorer.

Thanks Joe i’ll try that
August 16th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Sadly, I’m sure we will see Clayton again. He will sign with the Falcons, and lay 150 yards on us per meeting! Then he’ll talk about how he couldn’t “bloom” in Tampa. We’ll all be bitching about the whole situation! buuut, that’s usually how these “disappointments” turn out!
August 16th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
…and here I was thinking that his fabulous new beard would put him back into contention.
August 16th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Yea i agree with Capt. Tim im sure once we drop clayton that a team from the NFC south will pick him up. Most likely the falcons or the panthers. Just like how we dropped dexter jackson last year and the panthers picked him up and hes by far worse than clayton
August 16th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Stovall has much talent at 6″6 with a 4.45 speed and has good hands. He should have started over Clayton last year. Also he is the reason why our special teams was so good last year always the first person down the field to make the tackle. I agree with you Jesse!
August 16th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Those of you saying the Bucs have to pay him either way… kind of. They would still save about 3 million under the cap.
Anyway, I like Clayton and really hope he goes somewhere else and has a decent career. I just hope they do cut him. The team and him NEED to cut ties.
August 16th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
To all of you guys talking about the trade scenarios for Derrick Ward, I think we need to wait a while to see if he can play better. But if he continues to disappoint, then I say we trade him to some team (maybe the Rams will take him, I think Steven Jackson needs some help), and we can get at least a 4th or 3rd round pick for him. Or a better scenario is… we could trade to some other team and try to get a good defensive end in return. Right now, a DE is our most pressing need.
August 16th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Who are you guys kidding about getting something in return for Ward? Mediocre RBs are dime a dozen, no one is going to waste a pick (even a 7th) on a 29 year old, injury prone, mediocre at best RB. That could very well be the reason Bucs still are holding onto ward, they want to get something out of that huge investment.
August 16th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
patrick, you just let everyone know how little you know about the nfl. a 3rd round pick for a 30 year old bad backup running back, c’mon man.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:35 pm
If I remember correctly, Clayton got married right after his rookie season……….maybe she is a royal pain in the ass!
August 16th, 2010 at 7:27 pm
drb, i think you may have just solved the mystery. well done sir.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
Not to defend Clayton but did we watch the same game. I seen a terrible throw that he was able to get his finger tips on. WTF he will give you plenty of real drops to pound on him about but that wasn’t one of them.
August 16th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
I really don’t know what the problem is with Clayton. Is it just a confidence issue?? Is he distracted?? Does his wife bitch at him everyday?? Or does he just flat out suck? It’s really weird how he was amazing his rookie year and then he just fell off the map. If we cut him tomorrow, I have a feeling he would turn his career around with another club.
August 16th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Clayton will make the Pro Bowl for sure this Season. You guys are just a bunch of haters.
August 16th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
DRB- after years of all of guessing at the ” Clayton Mystery”, you have provided the only answer that makes sense! You are probably right! It’s the only thing that makes sense! And we ALL know a chick like that! Now I really feel sorry for Michael :(, lol
August 16th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
Maybe she’s a tranny and he found after he said “I do”. Everytime he brings it up, she/he probably says “Drop it”.
August 16th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
“drop it” Lmao! Hey, what’s up with the Stovall hate I’ve seen on this post?? Stovall has ALWAYS played well here! The guy can’t stay healthy, but ya can’t hate on him for that! I keep hoping the gu stays healthy, because he has game. Unfortunately, I expect to be disappointed again, but ya gotta keep hoping!
August 16th, 2010 at 9:48 pm
You mean there are chics who aren’t like that?
August 16th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
I heard there are alot of Chicks who aren’t like that! And they are easy to identify. They ride unicorns, and live in the forest! The others are JUST like that!
August 16th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
Capt.Tim
LMAO!
August 16th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Except for Carmella Garcia and Rachael Watson, of course:)
August 16th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
I got a better chance of being the Bucs back up QB!
August 17th, 2010 at 3:09 am
Eric, I heard they are trying to contact you, to set up a tryout! Lol
