The Bucs Won’t Cut Devin White

Whatever is going on as it relates to Devin White being a healthy scratch today in the biggest game of the season, Joe is confidence the Bucs won’t release White.
Yes, he’s a free agent after the season. And that’s exactly why he’ll stick around.
Most teams are obsessed with scoring compensatory draft picks. And a big factor in getting one is to have your homegrown free agent walk out the door and sign a fat contract elsewhere.
If the Bucs cut White before the end of the season, they’ll lose that potential draft advantage. While the average fan might consider a fifth-round pick to be small potatoes, rest assured personnel executives consider those mighty valuable.
White will be a Buccaneer for a little while longer. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll even get back on the field this season or postseason.

We finally got rid of Key Vaughn.
It was hard enough for our GM to put his ego aside for that transaction.
There is no way Licht could handle watching another one of his under-performing draft picks get cut…
Just place White on IR for the rest of the season and let’s all try to forget we wasted the #5 overall pick on this guy.

To name a few.
Hindsight is 20/20. As it turns out the Bucs should have traded back if possible and loaded up on picks.
White had two decent seasons in Tampa and he did help us win a Super Bowl so it wasn’t a total waste.

Devin White sux. He reminds me of Jameis. They would say Jameis was football smart. What does that even mean? It means he’s stupid. You could figure that out as soon as he opened his mouth. Devin is the same, dumber than dirt.

White likely isn’t going to get the contract he has THIS year on the open market. At least not from a contender like he wants (eagles). I always felt like we were giving him an injury pass this year. That interception he ran out of bounds was some of the weakest sh!t I’ve seen in pro ball in a hot minute (along with CDIII’s pathetic attempts at acting like he wants to tackle anybody), and everybody was just like “oh he’s injured, he can’t run it back.” If you’re too injured to give your all to running back a gifted pick against one of the best teams in the NFC & league, you’re too injured to play IMO. While I was in agreement we should’ve traded him, I really think bowles was fooled (not hard to do from what I’ve seen) into thinking he had brought DW45 back into the fold after his trade request. But when a guy realizes it’s his last year with a team, he thinks he’s getting paid half of what he should, AND he’s not being used to his strengths? Why should we be surprised he’s out there making business decisions? We have players on the team that have done the same with much less justification. If bowles was letting him blitz, getting him sacks, maybe he makes a little more effort. He’s not Davis or Dean who are being asked to play against their talents, but have multi year top of the league contracts. And even they have been pouty and showed their @sses (to my mind) at times this year. It’s hard to say & think it now, but the best thing we can do at this point is to thank Devin for his significant contributions to our incredible Super Bowl season and collect our comp pick for him. Oh yeah, and don’t let him see the field again this season, that too.

I’m not sure a 5th rounder in 2025 is worth keeping an underperforming malcontent now… but, then again, they need a warm body in case of injury.

He has trouble getting off of block in the middle of the field. There is no reason to believe that he’s going to beat tackles–usually the best offensive linemen on the team.

Let him go, take the comp pick and use it to trade up for another LB. Use the money to sign Burns as a free agent to replace Shaq after next year.

His issue is being out of position and some bad angles when dropping back. I think he should be in on obvious passing downs because he is a very good pass rusher.
And if that showcases some skill where a team might sign him to a bigger contract than they should, good for the Buccaneers.
Don’t take away from Kancey or Yaya but by all means, let him replace JTS

The Bucs could have gotten something better that year they drafted White, but….. there’s a big BUT here….. without his play in the playoffs there’s a good chance the Bucs don’t make it to the Super Bowl. It sucks we don’t get a long term great young talent but he’s like Brady was…. The right piece at the right time to win a Super Bowl. So everyone saying he was a bad pick forget what he did during that run. Dude was a major factor in that second trophy. Too bad he’s fallen off so bad. I think he reads his own press way too much and since the fans have turned on him his play has gotten worse. Thanks for the Super Bowl! Your time in Tampa is done
