Was Rachaad White’s 100-Yard Game A Mirage?
December 1st, 2023Joe isn’t quite ready to crown Rachaad White as the next Franco Harris.
Joe thought it was awesome that White, for the first time on American soil, finally ran for 100 yards Sunday on just 15 carries. Great to see.
“This Joe” has to wonder how much the soft Colts run defense had to do with it. For example, in the four Colts games prior to hosting the Bucs last week, the Colts gave up the most rushing yards in the NFL each week.
That’s not what Joe would call a good run defense.
The NFL is all about mismatches and the Bucs took advantage. Not enough of an advantage to win, but hey, baby steps.
On Sunday, the Bucs might be able to take advantage of another leaky run defense in the Stinking Panthers. Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis has an interesting nugget that running man Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales may be interested in.
58.1% (18-of-31) of the touchdowns against Carolina have come via rushing, the highest rate in the league.
So the Stinking Panthers are vulnerable giving up rushing touchdowns? Cool.
Hey, Canales said earlier this week he thought his run blocking was better and White’s running was better.
Let’s see if that continues to hold true if the Bucs get into the red zone Sunday.

His yards per average, or not that good, even though he hit 100 yards in one game. I would like to see a road grader, like Alstott was, instead of a cut and juke running back.

Puncher’s chance
He runs hard but I don’t see any meaningful RB moves
He’s a good rotational back but not a NFL #1

Mirage? Yes.
He is not a feature back. Licht cannot evaluate the position to the point of abject incompetence.

Try running and passing and stick with the one that’s working best. Force them to adjust, then abuse their adjustment.

Why is it that other teams like DAL/PHI/DET/KC can consistently open games with a script of plays that march right down the field, but not the Bucs? Does this staff not scout their opponents? We always seem outcoached. Even Arians had this problem (slow starts).

Bucs run fine against bad Run Teams. Colts were giving up over 150/game.
Panthers are bottom of the barrel on run defense.
My only concern is the run opens up the pass and Bucs end up turning the ball over 3 times on bad throws.

It helped that they were playing the Colts, who are close to worthless against the run.
TEs created enough holes for him to see daylight. Kieft had a great edge sealing block on that long run around the end.
If the Bucs wnt it to be more than a daydream of a mirage, they have to overbalance the Panther line because they are better against the run than the Colts are.

Yes it was a mirage because colts run defense is trash and so is the Carolina so he should have no problem getting another 100 game Sunday

it was a FLUKE. That was going to be the only highlight of his abysmal career.

@FortMyersDave or is that you Rashaad White… 🙂 , I’m not a troll. I’m just saying the truth and what we have observed for the last 9 games. Truth hurts.

The dude must have seen microphones in the end zone…
He is such a media hound, he would run through a brick wall to get to those microphones.

maybe white is getting better as the season wears on…
after all it’s only his second year…
maybe he’s developing…just maybe…
what if by years end he runs for 900 or 1,000 yards and surprisingly bumps his ypc up to 4.0

Yes. It was average with one anomaly run off of a broken play. He is what he is, and that is a slow motion, slow footed, long striding better-at-receving changeup (not #1) back who needs plays designed to get him into the open field. This roster is missing a #1 and #2 back, and an OL. Not much to talk about until these problems are resolved.

He looked pretty good to me. He could have run for 200 yards if they kept feeding him

Doing what you should do to a poor run defense is a bad thing now?
Geez Joe!
Go Bucs!
