Gameday Tampa Bay
August 14th, 2010Preseason Week 1
Bucs at Dolphins
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
TV: WFLA Ch. 8, NFL Network
Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (in Tampa WFUS-FM, 103.5 and WDAE-AM, 620); Sirius Channel 90.
Weather: It’s South Florida. It’s August. It’s gonna be hot and humid, duh. Joe’s kinda weather. Hot weather = boats, beer and scantily clad babes. Who doesn’t like hot weather? You don’t live in Cleveland! Fortunately for Joe, he won’t be playing. The Bucs and Dolphins, per AccuWeather.com, at kickoff thunderstorms are expecting with a temperature of 86. The thunderstorms should pass by halftime but the temperature will only mildly cool down to 83 by the end of the game.
Odds: Per Bodog.com, Dolphins -3.5.
Outlook: This is a preseason game and even Raheem The Dream admits the starters will get limited work. So for Bucs fans, this will be the first opportunity to see the heralded rookies that are to be the backbone of future Bucs winning seasons, Gerald McCoy, Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn. Brian Price and Myron Lewis, also rookies with high expectations, did not make the trip due to injuries. Another rookie, safety Cody Grimm, who has been a pleasant surprise thus far in training camp, should see a lot of playing time.
Fun facts: The drop-dead gorgeous proof of a supreme being above is none other than Joe’s favorite Fabiola, who Joe is sure you will agree is Fab-u-lous. She, along with Tampa native and local traitor Jenn Sterger, were part of the original Florida State Cowgirls. To the best of Joe’s knowledge, unlike Sterger, Fabiola has not been a victim of Brett Favre’s sexting. There seems to be quite a few Florida State kickoff parties thorughout central Florida today so, partially in an ode to Seminole fans (more so to Joe’s lust), Joe decided to feature Fabiola. Enjoy!
August 14th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Thank you for the picture Joe, she’s lovely!
3 Hours till gametime, sooo excited!
The Dolphins blogs all say we will be facing Miami’s regulars a lot more then we will play ours.
August 14th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Lets get the party started! Gooooooooooooooooo Bucsssssssssssss!
August 14th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

August 14th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Wow, Eric…That sounded ALMOST enthusiastic!
Watch out, they’ll take your Eeyore Badge away.
Enjoy the game, everyone!
August 14th, 2010 at 4:53 pm
Wha??? Game? Oh yeah… sorry, got lost in that pic…. WOW!!! Very NICE!!!
Um…. ok…. almost gametime… GO BUCS!!!
Now… where was I? Oh yeah…. pic….
August 14th, 2010 at 4:55 pm
Nothing like the ORIGINAL FSU Cowgirls….The current cowgirls just don’t have the hotness that Jenn, Fabiola & Danae displayed!!! Oh Fabi, how I miss seeing you in Garnet and Gold!!
August 14th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Yes I know I left Chrystal out, and she was hot, but Danae was hotter in my opinion.
August 14th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Can’t wait! Also wanna see Vincent, Jones ,and Brown, plus that new Back we signed! Guess they aren’t gonna show any of the new offense or defense tonight, saving it for the regular season! Still lots to look at
August 14th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
Oh, thank God! The season is hear! Well, actually it’s the pre season, but who the hell cares! It’s FOOTBALL!
Five players I’ll be watching:
1.McCoy
2.Benn
3.Vincent
4.Huggins
5.Grimm
Don’t care if they win, but it would be nice if they did. The more important thing is that they show what they can do, and play a good game.
Go Bucs!! Beat the Dolphin scurge!!
August 14th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!
August 14th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
7 more minutes!!!!!
August 14th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
I’ll take the fins and give up 3.5 easily…
Hey Joe are you gonna run the contest this year like last?
August 14th, 2010 at 6:59 pm
Joe here,
Yes, the contest will be bigger and better!! Info. will go up by Sept. 1
August 14th, 2010 at 7:03 pm
I’ll be looking for Mike Williams to burn some people down field tonight! GO BUCS!!!!!
August 14th, 2010 at 7:16 pm
Raheem Morris doesn’t realize its raining? Maybe someone should give him a pancho.
August 14th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
As usual, Lynch is doing a great job adding color to the game, but WFLA is once again killing the quality in the name of a business model. The NFL Network feed looks noticeably better, but on both the offenses don’t impress.
August 14th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
OMG!!!!
The Bucs score first!!!!!!!!!
Be still my beating heart…..
August 14th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
Score !!! Looking good Tampa Bay Bucs!
August 14th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
Wow, maybe we do have something!
August 14th, 2010 at 7:42 pm
Mike Williams looks good first tema looked good
August 14th, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Go BUCS!!!! We have a bunch of young studs on this team. In a couple years we’ll be dominating….hopefully
August 14th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
That’s what a good pre-season series is for– a little test for the starters and a little bait for the fans.
Looking good, Numbah 5.
August 14th, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Biggers is shining! Like the blitzes we are throwing at them. We never used to blitz! Freeman couldn’t have looked better!!
August 14th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
9:20 left in 2nd quarter- watch Dotson and Vincent- they both just CRUSHED the Dolphins starters!- nice!
August 14th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Ward acts like he doesn’t wanna be here
August 14th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
Ward has looked terrible this quarter WTF?
August 14th, 2010 at 8:31 pm
Hard to judge the guys really. The conditions are horrible. Ward does look horrible. No vision, always running into someones back or into the defenders, no drive for yardage, can’t hold the ball…. very bad half for him. Won’t say much more on negatives, because the conditions have a lot to do with it (missed tackles, etc).
What I’ve liked so far… Freeman looked pretty good, nice touch on the pass to Williams, nice read on the TD to Stroughter. Caddy is playing like he’s fighting for the #1 spot, gotta love his heart and drive. Stroughter and Williams both looked pretty good. Didn’t get much look at GMC, but Kyle Moore was in the frame all the time. He really surprised me, he was all over the place. Knocked down the pass when we had them backed up. Moore would be my surprise performer of the first half (didn’t expect it from him, not that it was the best performer, just the most surprising to me).
August 14th, 2010 at 8:31 pm
Nice chest pumps!
August 14th, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Yeah eric, I like the pic too… lol
August 14th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
Half time – looked great- Freeman, Caddy, M.Williams,Dotson, Zuttah, Vincent, Crowder, McCoy, Heyward, Biggers! All great! Real disappointment- Derrick Ward. Still think we need a vet backup at QB. But team looked good, schemes looked effective. Can’t wait for 2nd half!
August 14th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
My vote for biggest surprise is Biggers! That guy was playing with passion.
My vote for second biggest surprise: Joe. I mean it’s almost the 3rd quarter and Joe hasn’t posted anything…nadda…zilch….
I think Joe musta been drinking a non-Caybrew drink and choked when Freeman, stepping backwards, made that TD pass to Stroughter. Quick someone call the paramedics to Joe’s house…..
August 14th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
Forgot Hayes ,Stroughter, and Moore on that looked great list – alot so far:)
August 14th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
OMG! Did you see that Spurlock catch on the sidelines? THAT earned his a spot on the roster.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:50 pm
Ok, now Huggins bursts up the middle with SPEED – Watch out Ward you’re going down.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Something needs to be done about ward. He’s has played absolutely awful.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Forget Ward, bring on Huggins. Is it me or are we screwed if something happens to Freeman.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Josh Johnson isn’t looking good out there at all. If Freeman goes down, we’re f*****.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Between the Spurlock catch and the Huggins run, Peanut had better watch out for his job…. They may keep Spurlock as the return guy, and give Huggins the #3 RB (maybe #2).
August 14th, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Johnson has had trouble holding onto the ball and with footing… both can be attributed to the conditions. He’s made some good throws as well and really turned the broken play (bad snap) into a positive.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Ward better not get the #2 spot.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
I hope Ward steps his game up tonight. I wish they’d give Earnest Graham some carries! Yeah I know he’s a fullback, but the guy still flat out run!!
August 14th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
JJ is 6/10 for 61yds not terrible. He just doesnt seem like hes had much experience in rainy games
August 14th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
Yea KH!!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
I’d be more worried about if we ever have to see Carpenter in the game. He’s sailing the ball…. very dangerous.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Give Huggins wards carries!
The man looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Snead is looking like he should be there instead of that sorry excuse for a QB Carpenter
August 14th, 2010 at 9:06 pm
He had two bad carries eric lol, i hope that’s not sarcasm
August 14th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Is it too late to cut Carpenter and get Snead back into camp?
August 14th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
ward 12 for 20 yds
Huggins 8 for 55 yds Bet your ass you give KH Ward’s carries
August 14th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
Well the 3rd quarter looks like the 2009 Bucs – terrible
August 14th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
That Josh Johnson has a propensity for making totaly disastrous plays.
A little concerning.
However, Mr. Freeman looks really good. Very exciting to see.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
I can NOT believe how poised Freeman looked in the pocket. I’m impressed.
Can someone explain why they have Benn returning kickoff’s? Do they really want to get him killed? Spurlock looked good – let him have that role.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
Joe you need a live chat for preseason…I think the number of comments is evidence for that…
August 14th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
Does that Carpenter kid even look a little bit like Trent?
Benn looked scared to death on that return.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:26 pm
Corey Lynch – great job on the blocked punt!!!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
J osh Johnson seems to move the ball but once almost in positon he seems to mess up. and agree ward has lloked crappy Clayton drops one then catches one and almost fumbles wow cut him now. I have been baptized in Kareem huggins I am a believer
August 14th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Way ta go Corey Lynch!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Nice block!! Now let’s see Benn and Williams make some catches!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:28 pm
I thought the ONLY thing that could keep Joe this quiet during a Bucs game would be Rachael Watson. Could Joe have gotten that Lucky?
August 14th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
I wanna save the Glazers some money! Carlos Brown looks better than Ward!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
BTW who else besides me thought it was DUMB to not allow your kicker the opportunity to make a 48yard FG?
August 14th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Terrence Nunn sucks!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
I can’t believe it. with 3rd and goal you pass????? With Rudy Carpenter????
Then on 4th and goal with Higgins you pass again?????
Holy Shades of 2009… Please just shoot me now.
THAT’S WHY I FEEL RAHEEM ISN’T A HC….
August 14th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
I know it’s preseason but this team needs the psychological boost to win…Play calling like that is TERRIBLE.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Was that reggie brown that couldn’t pull those in?
August 14th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
John Lynch is right. Normally wins or loses don’t matter in preseason, but I would like to win this one!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Their back-up QB is a hell of a lot better than ours.Miami must really want the win.Still have in 2nd string QB.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
Whatever the score, the bucs won the game.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:51 pm
awwwww mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
thats ok Brooks, you ran a good pattern.
And Rudy started throwing pretty well!
I got nuttin negativie to say tonite………………..which is unusual! Nice job coaching em up Rah.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Agreed Eric, these guys running around playing “football” wont have a job come the start of the season.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:53 pm
Awwww mannnn!!! A fumble on the five yd line.!! Still, great game for the Bucs!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
Man I wishi I could have watched this game. Stuck in Houston watching the Texans and trying to read the play by play on nflnetwork.com…
Eric, Your a good man giving props to the coach.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
Eric I disagree wholeheartly.
Our Bucs 1st team looked good – better than I though they would but that’s only for 2 series. Ward looked like crap. JJ didn’t look sharp. Our 1st string isn’t Brett Farve – he’s still a rookie and needs timing at full speed.
Due to the field conditions I agree that pulling him was ok but in the entire 2nd half the Bucs looked like the Bucs of 2009. Play calling terrible, decision making terrible. Losing this game – that they SHOULD have won does nothing for the teams psyche.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Oh I see what’s happened to you Eric – you’ve bought into that…we played hard and almost won thinking.
I make no bones about it – I want to WIN DAMMIT. Pre-season, 1st game, thru game 16 – JUST WIN THE DAMN GAME!
August 14th, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Two negatives. We need upgrades at backup Qb and backup Rb.
August 14th, 2010 at 9:59 pm
lol get off it, you sound ridiculous
August 14th, 2010 at 9:59 pm
Not u tim
August 14th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
FIRE GREG OLSON!:
I think you are right. Impressive for the first preseason game.
August 14th, 2010 at 10:15 pm
Mr. Lucky,
I just remember back in 83 0r 84 the bucs looked like world beaters and won all of their pre-season games. Jery Goldstein looked like Marino. 2-14 ensued.
I just don’t put any stock in the score. Even the good play is hard to judge in a pre-season game.
But, ive been beating up on Rah all offseason and can’t really say he deserves much criticism tonite. Those guys (except Ward) busted a hump for him tonite which impressed me.
August 14th, 2010 at 10:34 pm
Reasons for optimism from this game (even though the score says we lost)
First downs: TB 17 MIA 10
Rushing yards: TB 139 MIA 50
Josh Freeman: 4-4, 53 yds, 1 TD
Caddy, Huggins, Brown: 16 carries, 98 yards
M Williams great sideline catch
Stroughter looking as good or better than last year already
Rookie P Bowden placing the ball nicely
Reasons for pessimism:
Derrick Ward!!! 12-20yds, 2 fumbles, 1 lost
7 total fumbles, 3 lost, and a pick
Overall, it was a pretty good “practice” game. After all, that’s all these are, practice games. The W’s mean nothing right now, just good reps, and keep improving.
Oh yeah, and I liked what I saw from Kyle Moore as well….
August 14th, 2010 at 10:44 pm
Look, Derrick Ward didn’t have a good game at all tonight, but it would be silly to just give up on him now. Though I liked Huggins and Brown tonight, they showed promise.
It really made me mad how Ward was playing like crap and they just don’t let Earnest Graham, a guy who’s proven to be a VERY GOOD running back before he got stuck with this FB crap, run the ball tonight. No offense to Huggins or Brown, they did good. But still, Earnest Graham could be helping this team in the ground game.
August 15th, 2010 at 1:13 am
I think you’ll see more of Earnest Graham through the preseason and especially in the season. As a FB. He is helping our run game and pass game now. He’ll help even more when the first team has more plays in preseason, and they run a FB dive or toss it to him in the flat on play action to Caddy. He will have value this season and produce from the FB spot.
