Lewis, Talib & More To Sit Out Tonight’s Game
August 14th, 2010Get ready to see what E.J. Biggers can do tonight as a cornerback with the first team against Miami.
Through training camp, Raheem The Dream has been very high on the Bucs seventh-round cornerback pick in last year’s NFL draft, saying he was in good competition for the starting nickel cornerback gig. Biggers was injured last season, and Raheem The Dream has said he considers him a rookie who “got a medical redshirt” for 2009.
Aqib Talib is staying home in Tampa. Stephen Holder, of the St. Pete Times, says Talib is not injured but is home because of a personal issue that has nothing to do with legal trouble. Holder says it’s not supposed to be something that will affect Talib long term. (Joe is nervous.)
Behind Talib on the depth chart is rookie Myron Lewis, but he’s still out with a hamstring injury. Lewis has seen limited action in training camp and also was sidelined for much of OTAs.
That puts Biggers in the spotlight.
Rookie Brian Price also is out (hamstring), as is Kellen Winslow (precautionary) and Clifton Smith (hamstring). No doubt will see a lot of defensive tackles Dre Moore and Ryan Sims, drop-happy tight end Ryan Purvis, and plenty of running back Kareem Huggins.

Well that sucks. With no Talib or Myron Lewis it will be hard to judge the play at safety. We will obviosly get picked apart and likely beat deap by Miami’s first team offense.
No Brian Price sucks too. Kinda expected but it still sucks.
After watching McNabb and Kolb play for 3 or 4 series and into the 2nd quarter last night, I gotta say I’ll be totally shocked if Rah keeps with his original plan of only playing Freeman for one series. If he does he is an idiot.

It’s the first preseason game. I would expect guys to be kept out of this pointless game. The main purpose of this game is seeing guys on the bubble that you may have to cut when the first cutbacks date comes around. Starters are getting their time, starters will be ready week 1 of the regular season. I look forward to seeing guys like Biggers and Mack play more at corner, get a better idea of who’s going to be 3rd (or 4th behind Lewis?). I look forward to seeing Huggins get more opportunity. The WR play should be interesting to watch.
As for playing “1 series”, I heard Morris say that, but he also said “about 12 snaps” for offense and defense #1’s. Well, unless you have a long sustained drive on offense, that could be 2 or 3 series, the entire first quarter, maybe some of the 2nd quarter. On defense, let’s hope that’s 4 series (four 3 and out’s).

Smart move by Raheem in keeping K-2 out.

Agreed, eric. I also think it’s a good move keeping Price out. I know he’s “behind” in practice time, but there’s no reason to further risk him with injury. Let him sit. If we start the season with GMC and Miller, with Price rotating in, he’ll catch up in a couple weeks and take over then. I’d rather have these guys healthy and “catching up” later, than aggravating an injury and getting further behind.

“Aw man why are SO many guys injured! Raheem the Doofus must be working these guys too hard!”

No need to get that guy banged up for nothing. He knows how to play. He doesn’t need preseason games.

Javier HOW STUPID ARE YOU?

@Chargedcbh
LMAO!!! Javier didn’t say that specifically…but intimated as much regarding Brian Price’s hammy. Just some playful ribbing.
