Todd Bowles: Bucs Are Not “Snowballing”

The Bucs have lost six of their last seven games. For Joe, that’s spiraling.
If the Bucs lose Sunday to the hapless Stinking Panthers, who just fired coach Frank Reich this morning, Joe will use the term “circling the drain.”
Joe better not mention this to Bucs coach Todd Bowles. This afternoon in his day-after presser, Bowles was asked why the Bucs have “snowballed.” That suggestion got push back from Tampa Bay’s second-year head coach.
“I don’t think it’s snowballing, I think we are making mistakes at the wrong time,” Bowles said. “Whether we get down to the one-yard line in the first quarter or blow something on defense in the second half, it is a different guy every time.
“The effort is there. The work is there. Snowball is probably — yeah, if you want to win a game. We’re desperate to win a ballgame. Just one ballgame.”
Bowles then used a line similar to his predecessor, Bucco Bruce Arians, “We can play the Bucs and the opposition.” (Arians often said about mistakes, “Bucs beating Bucs.”)
As for the mistakes happening consistently, Bowles seemed out of answers. He noted it’s not one or two players but each week a different player or two makes a critical mistake that turns the game against the Bucs.
For whatever reason, Bowles doesn’t know why his players aren’t locked in mentally.
“It’s things we have done every day,” Bowles said. “Every day we’ve done things right hundreds of times.”
Bowles added he thought it was a concentration thing but offered no resolution.
“They’ve done these things millions of times. It’s not like they don’t know how to do them,” he said.
Bowles rejected the notion that players aren’t scared of getting benched and as a result, aren’t giving full effort or focus.

It’s a no brainer the Bucs do much better with offensive minded head coaches than defensive minded head coaches. Our offenses are much better and our team is more exciting to watch. Good defensive coordinators are dime a dozen but an offensive genius is rare to find. Hopefully the Glazers stop hiring defensive minded head coaches because they don’t win us Super Bowls and hire an offensive minded head coach that loves to pass like Eric Bieniemy next. The Washington Commanders are leading the league in passing yards and have a respectable 4.5 YPC running the football in just one year of Eric Bieniemy being their new OC. Let’s hope the Glazers make Eric Bieniemy an offer he can’t refuse to be our new head coach.

It’s an accurate and appropriate analogy lol. 6/7 losses = losses piling up like a snowball. Even if we win out I’d still say we snowballed after a hot start this season. A 1-6 stretch is terrible man lol.

Koetter is the only non-defensive coach failure. The rest are all defensive coaches who not only oversaw bad teams but also bad defenses lol. & Koetter probably still outperformed all of them, and never had Brady.
Ultimately all these guys have never gone on to any NFL HC success after us. Most have gone downward in career trajectory.
The Glazers have been basically making pretty lousy hires, or good coaches don’t want to come here or something. It is a little weird tho since Arians kind of almost forced the Bowles move, but they need to get their sh1t together on this next hire and find us the next McVay /etc lol.

He is in way over his head and has absolutely no idea what to do.
I know he is a good man.

Even if they beat the mighty Panthers, it only means they move to 3-7 over their last 10.
That would be a .300 winning percentage, if things go well.
How many games does it take to see a trend, and to know you’re a loser coach, who managed to get Tom Brady his first losing season, his first loss to Atlanta and Dallas, and drove him into retirement. Now this year he’s stinking of the league again, and yet, we’re close, so close…

Not defending Bowles in any way, shape, or form. We need a new head coach… I just don’t favor overpaying and fence-swinging. I’m not sold on Harbaugh finding success as a head coach next time he’s in charge. Retreads don’t appeal to me. I mean, it’s a better idea than Belichick, for instance… But can’t we, for once, hire the young coach on the rise who can set the organization in the right direction for the next 10+ years. I want that coach.

What we are asked to watch / attend or dial into is at best high school football played by adults. It’s C- minus football played for insane amount of money.
Yes, we do have extremely talented athletes, but a Porsche in the hands of a teenage driver…well; it’s just a waste.
Sorry, my 2023 Football season is done early. Thanks Coach Todd for trying, you’re a great coach, just can’t get the team to Top Tier Talent. I was really hoping for a good 2023 season. TANY- There’s Always Next Year. SInce 1977 with a few exceptions in between.

Maybe not snowballing down a cliff, but they have a snowball’s chance in hell of becoming better.
Hot Toddie’s attitude towards putting in more work to straighten things out is a POS idea. Teams need constant work to stay a team and not just a collection of overpaid guys.
