Lots of big time positives to take from the Bucs’ 27-14 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
That comes straight from a thoughtful player at One Buc Palace.
Joe is referring to veteran kicker Chase McLaughlin. He was very upbeat about the Bucs’ rough day.
“Everyone on this team thinks that we should have won that game,” McLaughlin said, noting that the Bucs did a lot of encouraging things against powerful San Francicso.
McLaughlin said the Bucs’ showing proves the Bucs can hang with the best. His comments came on the Buccaneers Radio Network as he sat alongside punter Jake Camarda, who was in agreement.
Joe loves the optimism, and it speaks to how the Bucs have zero excuses when it comes to winning most of their remaining games against a soft schedule. However, head coach Todd Bowles said yesterday there are no moral victories, so the Bucs can’t be feeling too good about themselves.
Bowles was on SiriusXM NFL Radio today and, of course, talked about losing the turnover battle yesterday. He seemed to think that cost the Bucs the game.
Bowles added that cutting penalties, which the Bucs did on Sunday, combined with red zone finishing “and cut out a couple of things on defense” should lead to wins down the stretch.
Missed tackles hurt the Bucs yesterday more than big 49ers throws down the field, Bowles noted.
Again, Joe appreciates all the upbeat vibes. Now it’s time to execute. Time is up on losing — and the upcoming opponents aren’t very good.

Nobody else thinks the Bucs had a chance yesterday and in fact they didn’t. Mistakes, poor play calling on offense. Soft defense and missed opportunities. Same old Bucs. It all starts with a coach who is both stupid and stubborn. Even if the Bucs somehow win the division, they are not going to beat the wild card at home. One and done again.

I have been thinking about this team and how bad it’s scoring.
Historically the Bucs have had some really bad offenses with bad QB’s like Dilfer, DeBerg, Shawn King and so many more. None of those offenses has anyone to compare to Godwin and Evans. No tackle who ever played for the Bucs was as good as Tristan Wirfs.
With lousy receivers and lousy offensive lines, those really bad Bucs teams had offenses that were scoring about 14-17 points a game, same as this Bowles/Canales offense.
Think about it, you have multiple all pros on the offense but your game plan sucks and your tendencies are so damn obvious to any decent coordinator.
This Buc team will go down as the worst offense they have ever had with Somme of the best play they have ever had.
Only in Tampa can this stuff happen.

They were down by 20 points in the 4th quarter and lost by 13 and they think they should have won the game?

There is no such thing as a soft schedule for these Bucs. Also these players are in serious denial if they think they were anywhere close to winning this game. Between the Texans and 49ers game, the opposing offense scored in 3 plays, yesterday from the 1 yard line. That’s some great Bowles defense. SF was in cruise control after being up 27-7. It’s insulting for any Bucs player to give us fans this line of crap saying they could have won that game. Please!!!!

The positives from the 49ers game:
1. Todd Bowles stopped running that weak as cover 2 defense
2. Todd Bowles put JTS sorry as on the bench
3. We are only one game out of first place

Paul Gruber was a better tackle. He played a long time. Letting the opposing QB have a perfect rating would be my primary concern. JTS is a reincarnation of Eric Curry for all the old timers. Goes outside on every rush and ends up behind the QB giving him a perfect throwing lane. It’s embarrassing at this point.

There is no team we’re facing for the rest of the year that doesn’t think they should beat the Bucs. Even the Panthers are penciling in 2-0 vs Bowles and the Bucs. The Bucs are every other teams ‘soft’ opponent.
Truly unbelievable if the team legit thinks they could have won that game. They were not competitive. This wasn’t a 6 point game where the Bucs were driving to win, and tip, INT return for a TD made the score look like a blowout – it was a legit blowout loss.
I can not believe that Brady was here only a year ago, that it was only last preseason that Vegas had the Bucs going to the SB last year – and now this team is talking about moral victories when they lose by 13.
What a disaster Todd Bowles has been. I knew he’d suck, but this is at a totally different level of suck, and it happened so quickly.

Right now i can think of 3 veteran above average nfl defensive backfield starters the bucs have had to let go for cap reasond, and 3 offensive line starters as well on winning teams.
the replacements for those 6 are generally 2 year players of mid level draft status.
retaining those players likely would have brought us a few more wins, possibly yesterday as well. imo bowles is good enough to develop new talent at a minimum and might be good enough to win a super bowl once the talent is fully replenished.
Im not sure there is as good of an alternative available to Bowles, and unless you have a slam dunk replacement, not staying the course would probably be unwise

At least the offense looked a little better yesterday. I didn’t watch the entire game but after watching the first half the offense did look a bit better. Maybe draft a franchise QB a good RB in the 24 draft, and trade for a defensive end the Bucs maybe ready to contend again even if Bowles is still there. I say trade for a DE because the Bucs have done better at trading for a DE ( Rice and Paul) . their drafting a DE over the pass 20 years has been horrible

baker had a man on his arm when he threw the int but the fumble Todd should give baker an earful for . There was nowhere to go to make any yardage. Baker needs to pick his spots better. There are times when you just cover up and take the sack. You are not a running back and on this team even if you were you aren’t breaking open any holes yourself anyway.

49ers punted on first possession, then went five consecutive possessions putting points on the board.
They didn’t score on their very first possession, moral victory.

I agree. The 49ers were able to scheme players wide open all game. Star players went uncovered. On one play, there wasn’t a Bucs within 10 yards in any direction. The 49ers could have run up 50-60 points on the Bucs.
