Tristan Wirfs Now A Leaner 360 Pounds
November 17th, 2023Consider Joe baffled that the Bucs can’t figure out how to have a slightly below average rushing attack with an elite superstar monster of an athlete at left tackle who weighs 360 pounds.
That’s right — 360!
Wirfs was on the Buccaneers Radio Network this week and refused to share his current weight. Wirfs joked that the official roster says he weighs 320 pounds, and he’s sticking with that for the remainder of his career.
Well, it’s been obvous to Joe that Wirfs has been in the 350-pound range. No shame in that, and Joe has no idea why offensive linemen try to hide their weight. Big is beautiful!
Over at TheAthletic.com, writer and Pro Football Hall of Fame selector Dan Pompei penned a long feature this week on Wirfs that includes chatter about him remaking his body with help from Buccaneers staff this offseason.
Wirfs revealed the overhaul resulted in a leaner, meaner 360-pound animal.
“The result, he says, was losing nearly 10 pounds of fat and gaining 14 pounds of muscle. His body fat percentage decreased by 1 percent, and he now weighs a solid 360 pounds.
A fitter Wirfs should have been a more confident Wirfs. Training camp would be the time to show it.
Several times, he lined up in a right tackle stance at left tackle. He tried to focus on one issue at a time, consistently improve, and most importantly, not get frustrated.
“Every day, it was reassuring him, telling him his technique was getting better,” [Offensive line coach Joe] Gilbert says. “I told him I didn’t expect him to come out and be Joe Thomas right away. What helped is he’s a humble guy. He came out every day like he was starting from scratch.”
For those wondering, yes, Joe expects Vita Vea tips the scales a few pounds more than Wirfs.
Wow, 360 pounds for Wirfs. Joe sure hopes the Bucs land a beastly blocking tight end next season.

It’s easy J B F. Awful guard play.

People act like it is so easy to coach in the NFL.
But here is a perfect example of the need to not only have good coaching but also have players that have the ability to take on the coaching of all the extra little details and put them to use.
Not everyone in the NFL has the makeup as Wirfs. He is not just the special athlete, but he has the special makeup to do all the hard work and all the little extras that make him elite.
Congratulations to both Tristen Wirfs and Joe Gilbert, showing how a blend of talent and coaching can work in the NFL.

The interior o-line is softer than the podcast posse’s collective boilers. That’s how…
November 17th, 2023 at 4:09 pm
he doesn’t look fat…
he is the exact physique you want in a linemam…
it’s crazy – he could prolly go to 380 before someone says maybe he can lose 10

We just need another Wirfs at C and LG. Super simple!
Also wouldn’t hurt to run some outside zones instead of constantly diving behind Hainsey.

when his career is over, hopefully a long time from now, he is not going to look like joe thomas or ali marpet, a year later…
i think he remains a big dude…like 280-290…maybe 300…
he’s just built that way…
if going to war, i’d take wirfs in my bunker, and if going to the bar to raise hell in san fran this weekend – he’d be the wingman…
also toss big red into the mix for a trio of mayhem…
of course they could do all the dirty work and my old azz would film the video and have the getaway vehicle ready after they turn the bar upside down

Just based purely on size, our offensive tackles look like the varsity team and our guards and center look like the JV team when I see a good shot of them all.
It’s silly how diminutive Hainsey, Mauch, and Stinnie look compared to Wirfs and Goedeke.
Easy to see why our interior is weak. They look weak!

That got me wondering. Average height NFL guard: 6′ 4-1/2″, 320 pounds (I imagine guards are required to run faster)

Need a beast in the middle at center too. I don’t think they should screw with Mauch by moving him to center. Just draft a kid who’s played center for 3 years at a high level from a big time program. Like the center from Georgia. NFL ready to play center day one.

Everyone says Goedeke is the strong guy on the team – and he’s listed at 312. I wonder how big he really is?
To me, the only guy who looks small out there is Cody. Not knocking him in the least, he’s coming from a small school, and has to put on NFL muscle, and I think he’ll get there by next year. But Cody really does look flat out small compared to everyone else, and he’s listed at 302. Amazing how big these guys have gotten.

Boss says wins the thread!! Lol

luke is another one who looks fairly lean and can add a few pounds without it becoming an issue…
our bookend tackles look set in stone for a while…and they’re strong af too…
stinnie seems pretty strong and gets nice push too…
hainsey is adequate, but the skinny lower half you can’t really change…
and mauch is a work in progress and like the joe’s say, a year or so in the weight room and he’ll be good – too bad by then he will be at the back end of his contract – so we basically got him ready for his next team – a la cappa

I was hoping to hear something positive about Ryan Jensen the 2nd half of this season. It’s looking like he’s really done. Hopefully he accepts some type of injury settlement so he’s 2024 & 25 contract hit isn’t too bad. Currently the Bucs cap hits will be about 6m in ‘24 and 12m in ‘25.

Definitely on board with that Joe but not before we get a beastly center. We seem to only run the ball up the middle
November 18th, 2023 at 1:58 am
I agree pewter power they should move Hainsey to left guard and draft a new center.
November 18th, 2023 at 2:04 am
We need a beastly center more than anything. Next year Mauch will gain 15-20lbs and get that “grown man strength”. Get a serviceable LG and this OL will be dominant.
November 18th, 2023 at 7:41 am
How drafting a beastly fullback? I don’t follow college ball, but I bet there will be a few in the draft. Wirfs can weigh whatever he wants; he’s a great football player.

Leaner 360?
Umm has his pinky finger been on a diet? I watched the all 22 from the Titans today and I think RJS was a bit tilited to his side.
Go Bucs!

No way in Hell Wirfs gained 14 lbs of muscle during the off-season. Professional bodybuilders on the most scientifically advanced steroids and the absolute perfect diets plus 12 hours of sleep daily MIGHT be able to gain 14 lbs in a year ..
But probably not. I believe that Wirfs may very well have gained 14 lbs of muscle since becoming a pro but it’s absolutely impossible he did it in a six month off-season.

I remember reading an article in the early 90’s saying there were 4 players in the NFL over 300 pounds and the writer saving something like these men were too large to move fast enough for the speed in the NFL.
I’d love to find that article again.
