No Secret Seattle Sauce For The 49ers
November 16th, 2023Those who study Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales have heard him many, many times address how things were done during his years with the Seahawks.
So with the Bucs playing the 49ers this Sunday, a Seattle rival in the NFC West, Joe was prompted to see how the Seahawks fared against the Niners last season.
Sit down for this one. In two division games, Seattle scored a total of 20 points. Then the teams met in the playoffs. Seattle made a game of it, storming back after a rough start to lead 17-16 at halftime. But their next score was a garbage time touchdown while trailing the 49ers 41-17.
Three games … 43 points and three losses.
Unfortunately, Canales didn’t bring any secret 49ers sauce with him to Tampa when he was hired this year.
San Francisco is allowing less than 16 points per game this season, including a 34-3 win Sunday in Jacksonville.
Joe doesn’t rule out the Bucs defense having a monster game and giving the Bucs a chance Sunday in the fourth quarter, but the thought of the Tampa Bay offense thriving feels like a massive longshot.

Like Brate stated “we need to run the offense through Godwin” quite simple, if there is any chance for us to pull this off…Go Bucs!!!
November 16th, 2023 at 11:54 am
Welp, the 49ers are not immune to losing.
They did lose 3 in a row, before taking it out on Jags last Sunday.
Stranger things have happened, than the Bucs beating the 49ers on their own soggy turf…. What could possibly go wrong?

Wow. Those stats are a downer.

This is called laying the groundwork, so when Baker scores 10 points he will have done what was asked of him.
November 16th, 2023 at 12:17 pm
That was last year without him, what about when he was there?
November 16th, 2023 at 12:21 pm
Well, there’s another divisional game, but it’s recent and more relevant.
Saints:
-4th in NFL, allowing 15.2 points a game.
-1st in NFL with 37 pass break-ups.
Buccaneers – 26
Saints – 9
And, I like Baker’s chances on the 49ers blitz; and who better to bail-out with than a pass-flip to Rachaad?
Not a prediction, jussay’n;
No dumb penalties, and Bowles doesn’t “pull-back” in zone trying to beat the clock with 15 minutes left in the game, -then- it’s a prediction for a Buccaneers win.

‘Joe doesn’t rule out the Bucs defense having a monster game and giving the Bucs a chance Sunday in the fourth quarter, but the thought of the Tampa Bay offense thriving feels like a massive longshot.’
Bucs have a longshot chance because of 1 SF player: Brock Purdy. In the 3 games they’ve lost, he’s thrown 5 INTs & SF has given the ball away a total of 7 times. They’ve also lost the TOP Battle handily in all 3 losses, but won the TOP Battle handily in all 6 wins.
And BTW, in their 6 wins they ran more than they passed in each game. In their 3 losses, they passed more than they ran in each game. The key defensively looks to be to stifle their running game & see if Brock Purdy can beat you. Agree though Joe that our defense is gonna have to do more than just look good on the bench. Scoring their 20 point average would be nice.

Oops, offense not defense.

It is true ,(mostly), any NFL team can beat any other NFL team on any given day, so, in the area of hope , this year, just weeks ago, we beat the Vikings and just a couple of weeks later the Vikings beat the 49ers, so there’s that, but, Mayfield has played the 49ers twice and lost both times, he has never thrown a touchdown against them and has been intercepted three times, so there is reason for hope and /or dread, believe what you will.
November 16th, 2023 at 12:43 pm
The offense probably won’t have any points this week that is reality.

Christmas is coming.

I actually hate saying this because the Bucs play conservative too often.
However, for this game, I would like for us to be conservative except when Nick Bosa is out of the game.
If the Bucs can pick up on that, then I would like for them to change strategy when they see Bosa out of the game. Take the shots down field then for the longer developing plays.
Bosa already has a ridiculous 21 QB hits this year out of their 72 total. That is an average of 8 QB hits a game for the team. Baker can’t take 8 this game. If he takes 3, 4 or 5, we have a chance.
The 3rd and 4th corners for San Fran are crappy. Exploit the game 10-12 plays. The rest of the time, I want Canales boring run offense and a good game from Jake Camarda.
This is based upon the Bucs defense showing up like they did last week.

for anyone who understands statsitcs and sample sizes of a mere two games – a meaningless stat. Its rendered even more meaingless by the fact the two times were in his second year in the league and with the Panthers last year who even with a new shiny top rated QB still suck in part because they have no good targets and a questionable oline
Not to you in particularly but I notice NFL fans and media use stats in some of the most daft ways not used in other sport as much – across teams , making note of days played and overal record against a team even when the personnel of the team has changed over those years
It a really silly use of stats.

isnt that the way to make sure your Qb gets slaughtered. 3rd and long when everyone knows the next play is a pass?

Tony Marks: The old axiom , “ Figures Lie and Liars figure” eh? True , to a point ,bits of data are often manipulated , but , a small but complete data set is not such a “silly” manipulation , Sunday another bit of data will be added , once again completing the data set of information we have , then we will see how relevant the existing data was and if the conclusions need to be re-evaluated. That’s the way it works.
November 16th, 2023 at 3:26 pm
I’ve never heard of this happening before but Wirfs should follow Bosa!
November 16th, 2023 at 5:00 pm
Atlbuc, did you mean works follow Bosa to the other side? If so, no… Goedeke gets him. Maybe give him some help?
November 16th, 2023 at 5:18 pm
Go BUCS!

Nope. Sunday won’t mean squat. When you get to college (even senior high marhs)and take your first mathematics statistic class the first thing you will learn is sample size matters and a sample size of even 3 is silly.
Thats like calling three people and projecting a presidential candidate will win based on three people. Don’t try and lecture anyonw on how stats work when you CLEARLY don’t get even the basics.
Plus worse in this case. Football is a 11 team mates player on the field sport. What you are arguing is dumb. IF a player is even with the same team and playing against the same set of players it wold be one ting but trying to exptrapolate an outcome based on different teams and different opposing players in each case just shows you don”t know what you are doing .

Come on people, stop lying to yourselves.
November 16th, 2023 at 9:03 pm
LOL , Well thank you for your thoughts Tony but I am afraid you are a bit confused, probably caused by all that mass of diverse information stuffed into the tiny confines of your mind, as to “sample “size , what should you be “sampling?” As I remember when I was teaching it , that should be bits of “ raw data” ,(individual pieces of factual information, used for the purpose of analysis). It is from this raw data that statistics are derived , so, you see Tony , from three bits of data such as games lost , many subsets of that data can be created, ,(points scored , interceptions, fumbles, tackles ), and I am sure I don’t need to tell you this , all statistical date is flawed to some degree and is never 100% correct because it is always changing as more data is constantly being created , but, of course the larger the study becomes the more reliable the results will be due to the lower standards of deviation, in other words , three pieces of data from a study is never silly.

This 49ers Defense has now has a couple of weeks for Chase Young, Randy Gregory to blend in with Erik Armstead, Javon Hargrave, Javon Kinlaw and that’s not even talking about Bosa. They DEMOLISHED the extremely mobile Trevor Lawrence last week and that defense is now warmed up. I don’t see us scoring 17 points. And how are we going to stop Mccaffrey. He OWNED us last year. We had a couple games where we contained him when he was with the Carolina Kittens because they had ZERO other players to worry about. But Deebo Samuel, Kittle, Ayiuk. The 49ers may not lose again this year.

I figured it out, only a mother defends her child in a way that does no wrong. Tony Marks is Baker Mayfields Mommy. She’s not a real Buccaneer fan just here to defend her baby boy from anyone who dares say anything cross to her baby. Mommy Tony Marks. Get lost go back to the rock you crawled out from under.

Tony “Baker’s Agent” Marks Says: “for anyone who understands statistics and sample sizes a mere two games – a meaningless stat.”
Except when Baker has one decent game against a terrible team, right?
November 17th, 2023 at 7:40 am
JD STILL: Sounds like Tony Marks should have been teaching your statistics course instead of you. Plus, he’s a much better writer.
PROUDbucsfan: Sounds like you need “your” mommy. Go back to her basement, grab your binkie, and go back to sleep.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:18 am
They need to pass to set up the run against SF but I wouldn’t bet on a different game plan thanks to Todd.
November 17th, 2023 at 12:40 pm
Wyoming Joe : He probably would not qualify to get into any of my classes, ( and this is a football website not a Doctoral Dissertation).
November 17th, 2023 at 12:56 pm
For one thing Wyoming Joe my Mother has passed on to a better place so there is no mommy for me to run to. Second I’m not just a fan of one player I’m a Buccaneer fan for years and for another point I’m a retired professional athlete who knows the intricacies of dedication and focus and how hard things get when you fail and cannot provide for your family at times. I don’t run to no one, I own my fails and look in the mirror to become a better version of myself everyday.
