Joe has a minor fear entering today’s game against the Titans, and it has nothing to do with watching the Bucs hand off to a running back.

Todd Bowles’ defense broke in half last week after showing cracks for weeks. The head coach/defensive guru is no doubt going back to basics with his defense today against the Titans. You don’t turn up the crazy exotic nature of your defense when your unit is struggling with its fundamentals and basic schemes. Plus, the Titans are a somewhat basic offense. Derrick Henry will pound the rock and they’ll take deep shots to DeAndre Hopkins.

Enter Sean Murphy-Bunting, the Titans cornerback who spent the previous four seasons as a Bowles favorite playing nickel and outside cornerback. Murphy-Bunting was lauded last year by Bowles as a future coach and one of his smartest players.

If there ever was an opposing defensive player that could help his offensive coordinator plan for the Bucs defense, Joe believes it’s Murphy-Bunting.

Plus, Joe suspects Murphy-Bunting still chats with a chunk of his former teammates and has heard whatever moaning and complaining they’ve had about the 2023 Bucs defense.

Joe will be sure to punch a wall if the Bucs lose today and it is revealed that Murphy-Bunting’s intel was a huge help.

The Titans are nothing special BUT they are a well coached team and they can run the ball. The Bucs are a poorly coached team that cannot run the ball. Titans win 24-13

  2. Jack Sparrow Says:

Watching this Bucs game is just a waste of time. Lousy coaches, lousy players equals bad product.

  3. ChiBuc Says:

@Joe, deep breaths. I’m sure you’ll make it through better than your walls.

SMB is the least of Bowles problems, so no need to build in an excuse for Mr. Regressing-depressing- no adjustment- out dated – defensive guru (err, voodoo)

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

When two stinky teams are playing each other it usually comes down to coaching…….so the Bucs are screwed today. Another Bowles loss.

  5. Beeej Says:

DW will not have to spend as many snaps dropping into coverage, will be interesting to see if he can shed blocks and get tackles.

Sapp showed a play from last week on a wide running play that went to his side–DW was totally stopped by a frikkin WIDE RECEIVER. Lavonte shot through from the far side and nailed the guy. Play looked ugly as heck for DW’s part

“Joe has a minor fear entering today’s game against the Titans, and it has nothing to do with watching the Bucs hand off to a running back.”

Rachaad White gets 119 total yards and 2 touchdowns against the #2 ranked rushing defense in YPC allowed and Joe still thinks that was a below average performance for a running back just because White got 73 yards rushing, SMH! I hope Rachaad White gets more rushing yards than Derrick Henry today and Sean Murphy-Bunting gets torched just like he did when he was playing for us.

  7. DS Says:

Watch smb get a pick lol

  8. Joshua porter Says:

That would be amazing if smb got a pick today cuz he’s not playing . Go figure hurt the story of him and Dean so far. Hope bucs play a good game but lose so we can finally get a true qb . Go bucs

  9. NE Fan Says:

Jack, I think you’re reaching dude. D White is going to be riding on Henry’s back like he’s back at the stables, he ain’t wrestling that guy down. And as Bowles does with every back up/ rookie QB will put his Db’s in a soft zone on 3rd down for yet another display of pee wee football. This has the making of a blow out.

  10. ModHairKen Says:

Titans will win this game. Easily. Because the Bucs are a beaten, hangdog group of scared, prideless, money takers. And those are their good qualities.

  11. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Smb is out with a sore thumb

  12. Hopein1hand… Says:

As much as last week twisting loss is best flushed and forgotten I still can’t fathom the reality that Dare Ogunbowale kicked the 30 yd field goal that was the difference in points to beat the team who cut him. It’s a good thought that SMB likely has valuable input for his coaches but I’m regretfully coming to accept that Bowles defense has been taped and scrutinized for too long for any coaching staff to not have a good bead on it with or without insider info.

    Excellant point.

    Has this ever happened??

  15. dbbuc711 Says:

I just have no faith they cab win this or any other game

  16. HC Grover Says:

This is the kine game Bowlzo ‘keep it close’ has a chance for an accidental win. Bucs are a 1 point fave. A close shave for a rare win?

  17. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

I agree Joe. I think Bowles, being a former DB himself, must be ashamed of their performance, especially lately. I’m sure he’ll simplify his schemes (and probably already did that in practice this week).

If the offense under-performs, he can shift the blame some but when it comes to his “specialty” as a defensive-minded coach, he has his reputation on the line and that’s one area he takes a ton of pride in. Ppl say he’s too stubborn because of his pride, but in this case I think his pride will yield change.

We’ll know in a little while if the scheme has changed and if the players respond well to it. I just hope he doesn’t focus too much on Henry and forget that their rookie QB can also throw the ball pretty well.

    Must win! Go Bucs!

  18. HC Grover Says:

Bowles is a safe driver….he is the guy who always is going 2 mph under the speed limit. Just in case.

  19. NJbucs23 Says:

Mr. Davis is taking the day off. 🤦

  20. HeavyE Says:

So let me get this right! Davis gets burned for 3 TD’s last week and said He is going to turn this around, but now he has a hurt toe, what a waste, he better not be on this team next year, he just talks a good game…….

  21. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Watching this Bucs game is just a waste of time.

I was going to watch anyway, but it’s a nice day and my wife and daughters wants to go out. I ain’t passing up family time for what the Bucs will probably field today. I won’t pay attention to my phone and will watch the DVR later. That way I can skip the commercials and get the misery over faster.

  22. NE Fan Says:

Confirmation, team quit. Oh and it was 4 TD’s.

  23. CAbucsfan Says:

SMB to the house=Bowles out the house

  24. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Bowles “got back to basics” last week because his players can’t follow his “teaching” after 5 years. So what now Bowles? We’re about to find out, and doubt it will be good.

  25. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Todd Bowles will get the turned around…. As soon as I hit the PowerBall.

  26. Joseph C Simmons Says:

    What happened to my comment?

  27. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    *Bucs turned around

  28. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Sounds like Carlton Davis has the dreaded “turf toe” which is an abbreviation for, “stuff is messed up inside the foot”

  29. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

A successful season is a high draft pick. Kick ass and go 7-10 is complete crap and worse case scenario. Let’s be real, and this isn’t about being a bad fan, this is about being a true fan and wanting the best for the organization. Get that straight.

  30. TonySoprano Says:

Sitting another Sunday out Mr. $16M a year Carlton Davis. Strange how we able to play through this mystery injury last week and practice on Friday.

In the history of the Bucs, is there another guy that got paid and mailed it in as bad as Carlton?

  31. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Don’t worry Joe. We will find plenty of ways to hand them the win

  32. LongSeason Says:

I’m really hoping for a mass-a-cree today. By season’s end some firings. There is a plank leading to the bay that is awfully lonely right now.

  33. HeavyE Says:

    Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  34. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

As a life long Bucs fan, won’t be excited if we win this game as I am confident that this team won’t do crap even if we make the playoffs. Wishing that wasn’t the case, but have to think of the best path forward. Gladly eating crow should we actually do something this season.

  35. Jeff Says:

I hope Joe has good insurance for the soon to be broken hand!
