“Flush It”
November 10th, 2023For Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs, perfection is his standard.
But we are all human. And one of the best tackles in the game and arguably the best player on the Tampa Bay roster will occasionally give up a pressure or get flagged.
Though he has been drilled since he first put on a Bucs helmet in practice to not get freaked out about mistakes, Wirfs said that is a struggle.
“I get pissed if I give anything up,” Wirfs said yesterday in the Bucs’ locker room. “You just have to flush it. I talk to Luke about it all the time. You have to flush it. Any sort of bad play.”
Wirfs learned the term “flush it” from Bucs offensive line coach Joe Gilbert. Wirfs admitted his rookie year he was schooled by defensive teammates and it really got to him.
Gilbert told Wirfs he had to learn to let mistakes go.
“I was getting super flustered about plays — like Shaq [Barrett] would beat me or JPP [Jason Pierre-Paul] would beat me and I’d be sitting there, thinking about it. — [Gilbert] would be like, ‘Dude, there is nothing you can do to get that play back. It’s gone. You have to move on,'” Wirfs said.
“It’s really easy to say, it’s really easy to say. It’s really hard to do. Try your best to flush it.”
Wirfs actually made a mistake last week in Houston at a terrible time. He was flagged for a false start on the Bucs’ final drive on third down.
Fortunately, Baker Mayfield was still able to convert the third-and-23 to Trey Palmer to keep the drive alive and the Bucs eventually scored to take a 37-33 lead with less than a minute left.
“Thank goodness we scored when we did,” Wirfs said. “Or I would have felt like a real @sshole.”
And that would have made a lot of Bucs fans to go flush something entirely different.

Wirfs is going to be 1st Team All Pro in his first year at LT, that’s wild. Get this man his bag $$. Also, can he infect this mentality on his teammates.

love how this guy keeps himself accountable
November 10th, 2023 at 10:18 am
That attitude is what makes him the best. Why are they trying to coach it out of him?
November 10th, 2023 at 10:21 am
Same thing with that repeated “kick in the groin” Texas game….flush it!
November 10th, 2023 at 10:37 am
one thing this oline is really missing is a D line that is really good to practice against. Wirfs going up against JPP, Shaq, Suh, Vea all the time. that’s getting better quick.

Because some people think drooling, snot-dripping, ear-wax stained, mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging behavior equates to quality.
Anyone notice all the woofing Devin White does on the field in pregame? Yeah. All bark, no bite.
BUT IT GETS ME HYPED! #sarcasm

Lose Sunday and the volume on the boo birds will ring beyond any know high decimal point throughout the state of Florida.

Belichick watch, more sources are coming out saying he is going to be likely be available at end of season. I bet Kraft is already taking calls for him. I know I say often I want Monken. But between Monken and Belichick, that is a no brainer. So if the Bucs Glazers and Licht have a chance to get Belichick, HOF coach. That would sell tickets, that would make the Bucs relevant to the National Media again. I think the Bucs should pounce on this opportunity and do whatever it takes to get him here.
November 10th, 2023 at 11:41 am
Don’t know who is contacting who but willing to lay cash Kraft has discussed selling the rights to Belicheat with some owner already.
For Joe the Chargers job is screaming for Belicheat to land there. Already have a quarterback and very solid core of players. Bucs don’t have a (star) quarterback. Unless Bucs promise a new coach — if there is a new coach — that he can pick his next quarterback in the draft, the top candidates aren’t coming here.
November 10th, 2023 at 12:03 pm
Yeah, your probably right about the Chargers job for him. And right about top candidates don’t want to come here. But can you imagine the media craziness here if Belichick came here. Hey it would be interesting. A coach like Monken is more realistic. Anyway, Let’s Go Bucs!!
November 10th, 2023 at 12:39 pm
My understanding was that Monken was offered the OC job and turned it down. I doubt he would be offered another job or would take it if it was.

Belichek or Bust unless Toad can turn it around…
November 10th, 2023 at 1:08 pm
But that was for OC job cricket baker. Monken would be crazy to turn down an NFL HC job and get to pick his own QB in next year’s draft. I don’t know anything about anything. Just playing out scenarios here from the outside looking.
November 10th, 2023 at 1:11 pm
Todd Monken would be an awesome hire, a guy who already knows the Bucs organization and ran a solid offense while he was down here. Makes too much sense.
No interest in a senile control freak with Bill Belichick.

Toad Bowels, I agree with you. For me season is already over. I’m a fanatic fan a love this team and continue to follow closely. Win or lose I still bleed Buccaneers football. But my mind is looking towards the off-season and at big changes here.

“Flush it”
The motto for this season
November 10th, 2023 at 2:44 pm
All this talk about Belichick makes me think of an article I read on another site proclaiming that “The Patriot Way” is dead and buried and left with Brady. The writer said the dynasty should be re-named “The Brady Way”. He points to BB’s record without TB12, chasing Shula’s all-time win record and the fact that Shula did it with 6 different QBs and mostly at a time when they only played 14 games in a season. Granted Shula had Unitas, Griese, Marino to name 3 of them. Lol
I’m not saying BB isn’t a great coach. Coach = Teacher and the man knows football but is he a great HC? HC = Teacher and Manager.and he has had a lot of influence in the league. Remember when the Patriots were the only team who deferred the opening kickoff if they won the toss? Now pretty much everyone does.
However, he is a stubborn task-master and gets a little too heavy-handed at times. The Super Bowl they lost to the Nick Foles-led Eagles is a perfect example. He sat his best cover corner, a healthy Malcolm Butler for “disciplinary reasons” and Foles torched them, even with Brady’s 500+ passing yards. You discipline a guy at the Super Bowl? Bananas. Fine him, make him run laps. Lol
I think if Kraft cuts him loose he’ll retire, but as Joe said, the Chargers make sense. I can’t see him coming here and competing with Licht on trades and draft picks. He’ll want more control than the Glazers will give him. I don’t see them tossing Licht aside to accommodate BB.

Oh…this here article…..I love Wirfs. Everything about the guy is team first.

Wirfs learned the term “flush it”
———-
Oh God, I don’t want to think that someone as big as Wirfs only learned to ‘flush it’ once he got to the NFL. Jesus Christ, that’s disturbing. I know he’s a big guy but no one was ever like, man, hit the knobby handle thing when you’re done, it looks like a horse was just in here.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:25 am
Gilbert is right and Wirfs is not wrong in striving for perfection. Perfection is not attainable however so it can be a very frustrating thing. Knowing deep down inside that you did your best is the only thing at the end of the day.
Go Bucs!

I don’t want Belicheat. He is nothing without Brady, plus he is old. Let’s start talking with Harbaugh from Michigan. That is a real long term solution. F Belicheck! Way overrated
