Todd Bowles described today’s loss with a perfect word.
“Devastating.”
The unacceptable loss by the Bucs is devastating in so many ways.
Devastating possibly for Bowles’ career as a head coach. Devastating perhaps for the Bucs’ chances of a playoff berth. Devastating for a coaching staff that could be blown out in two months. Devastating for players’ future contracts.
In a game like this, despite Devin White finally breaking his 14-game sackless streak, why the hell would you sign the guy to a $20 million/a year contract when the defense couldn’t slow down a cool breeze?
Devastating for the future of Baker Mayfield as a starting quarterback. Devastating for the future of Dave Canales as an offensive coordinator. Yes, the offense had a season-high 37 points but there were so many weird things happening on offense combined with the jarring loss that those things overshadow the progress made on offense.
Team Glazer has proven to be a somehwhat patient ownership group. But the one thing Joe has heard that wipes out that patience more than anything is to be embarrassment.
Today, the Bucs embarrassed their supportive owners.
And yes, that can lead to devastating actions.

Only the Arizona Cardinals have a longer losing streak than the Buccaneers have right now. But the Cards will get back Kyler Murray probably next week, and the Bucs play the Panthers twice, and they traded away their top pick and have no reason to tank. It all means the Bucs can be in the #1 overall pick talk here very soon!

Glazers need to show a commitment to winning. Fire Bowles, let Canales take the HC job, and maybe, just maybe we can get someone to call a game to our strengths. The worst thing is that Bowles Forte is his secondary, and they got absolutely rolled today by a rookie QB. We have 31 million being spent on starting CBs. Our pass rush is horrendous, the only building blocks for the future on defense are Cancey, Vea and AWjr. The rest are just dudes at this point.

The team needs some sort of ‘spark’. Mayfield is protecting the ball but has been mediocre at best.

They didn’t embarrass the Glazers. They humiliated them. Rookie QB. Ex-player RB kicks FG. Lead with 46 seconds. Penalties. Fumbles. UC penalty on a non-effort poor performer. This was so much worse than just an embarrassment.

It’s crystal clear Toad Bowles makes absolutely no attempt to cater his game plan based on the opponents’ weaknesses/personnel/etc. To me, that’s just a sign of laziness. To pay zero attention to who you are lining up against and just running the same tired scheme is inexcusable.

There is NO WAY this ownership will fire Bowles or ANY coach mid season. Just not how they do things. They kept Leftwich ALL season last year when he was done by week 7 last year. Also As long as we are in position to win the division we will not see Trask. Canales has done a C- job. He can’t OVERHAUL our offense and expect results when game circumstances forces him to change the game plan and let’s face it, Baker, our weak offensive line, and mediocre at best running game makes the first time coordinator look lost. He would have been better served leaping into a OC position in Seattle where he knew the system. It’s a big junk from QB coach to Offensive coordinator and it takes time to grow. Just ask Todd Monken.

I , for one , will be watching the rest of the season with great interest because you can’t see players real character when things are going well, it takes times like this to find out who has real character ,who continues to prepare and play hard , and who are just playing out the string, collecting a paycheck and making vacation plans for the off season, it really helps to separate the wheat from the chaff ,not only for the rest of this year ,but for the start of next season too.

Did anyone else notice the Texans pass rush was very controlled , it seems their defensive plan was to contain Mayfield , not let him roll out , make him pass from the pocket and over the top of those tall defensive lineman occupying the passing lanes, it worked !

Stop running the ball every 1st down. If I see this as an obvious thing we do then why the hell wouldn’t the opposing defense? Why can’t our defense stop anything? This game made me lose faith for this season. That was about as even if a match up as we are going to get and we choked. It is devastating to realize you are not good. Playing for a draft pick is never an option in my mind. That sets a horrible mindset for the current team and no head coach should ever do that. I see all the head coaches on here feel that’s what we should do. Imagine if your on a team and the coach says ” hey we suck this year so I want you guys to tank all year so I can get somebody in here to fix you next year.” Id be like F U coach and I imagine most other men would feel the same.
It’s time to start watching other games instead. We are back to being a 1 pm game team. No more prime time for us next year. Yesterday sealed the deal for the coaching staff in my mind and I hope the Glazers feel the same way. Bowles is not doing a good job at all.
